The Bidwell menu features Chef John Mooney’s signature dishes with Southern flair and flavor including: Gin & Tonic Salmon with Caramelized Cauliflower, Crispy Deviled Eggs with Homemade Ranch Dressing, Lobster Taco with Avocado Tomatillo Salsa, and Suckling Pig. Completing the menu is a confidently curated selection of regional wines, craft beers and classic cocktails.
We went for date night on Friday for dinner and really enjoyed the clam pizza, octopus ceviche and fried oysters. Loved the food and atmosphere so much that I went back with friends on Sunday for happy hour!
The food was good. Took a while after we were seated to meet our waitress. Drinks came slowly. Main complaint was the speed between courses...literally 5 minutes between appetizers being place on the table and the mains arrived. We had to shuffle quite a bit on the relatively small table to make things fit. Never really got to enjoy the burrata or bean dip, which we would have liked to have more time enjoying.
The noise level was extremely loud. Me and my guest had to shout through our hands the entire time whether it was the music or people talking. The noise level was lower out in the market area than it was in Bidwell. I will not return for that experience again.
Excelente lugar, súper agradable el brunch!
Dinner on Saturday evening began well, with fried oysters and went downhill from there. Ordered the Nicoise salad, which arrived with a very few slender slices of tuna and a salad that tasted of chemicals or heavily chlorinated water. Was told by the waitstaff that manager would come to discuss; manager never appeared. Received a discount on final bill. Not sure what niche this restaurant is filling at Union Market: much better food is available elsewhere at the market; its atmosphere as a sit-down restaurant hardly makes up for a so-so-dining experience.
We returned the next night to sample more of the menu.
We went for brunch, waitress made great recommendations, fruit was fresh and they kept the bottomless mimosas filled. Great service. Never felt rushed....
Noice level throughout dinning experience ruined an otherwise great experience.
Outstanding service. Top-notch food . . . prepared extremely well. My new favorite lunch restaurant with convenient parking to meet up with folks.
Food was great. Service was fast
Our first trip to Union Market. Bidwell was one of the few sit-down restaurants so we tried it. My husband's short rib was very good. My fried chicken was undercooked (bloody when I cut into it undercooked) and had to be sent back. Replacement took so long that I asked for it to be boxed having shared my husband's meal while waiting for a new plate.
It was a little warm in the place, but the food was good!! Will go again but maybe in the winter. :-)
Hi Tony, My apologies for the heat. Unfortunately, since we are in an open space, once the market gets too warm, our air conditioner seems to pull double duty and takes away from our air circulation. I'm hoping you return sooner then the winter. As the weather cools down, our A/C functions at full capacity. Please be sure to ask for me when you return. Kelsie Wright/General Manager so I can personally say hello.
Not 5 stars because we couldn't get a tour of the garden!
They gave away our reservation and the wild mushroom made my friend very ill.
We had dinner around 5:30, so it was early and not as crowded. The place is cute. It's inside Union Market but it has it's own space so you can people-watch without having people walking around you. The food was really good, very flavorful and the drinks were unique. There are different seating sections and styles: bar seating, booths, free-standing tables, and outdoor seating. The service was very good as well, prompt, but not annoying. 10/10 would go again.
Got us right in for a Saturday brunch which was awesome. Bloody Mary was just straight tomato juice and the vodka kiwi drink was just fine. We ordered sourdough toast for $3, our fault for assuming it would be some nice rustic slice- it was actually a slice of what looked and tasted like presliced target brand sourdough bread. The steak on my Benedict was cooked to death while the poached egg was just plain raw still. My husband ordered the veggie omelette and was also more than underwhelmed. The potatoes that came with it were ok. Cool looking atmosphere but because of the high ceilings it was way too loud to enjoy each other’s company. Service was mediocre. Server was pleasant enough but wasn’t anywhere to be found for the majority of our visit.
The food was okay, nothing spectacular. Not a very kid friendly place. Not a lot of options for non soda drinks aside from tap water, sparkling water, or alcohol.
Our waitress had very little insight about the menu options and was confused when we asked questions about the menu. Once she realized we weren’t ordering alcohol or dessert to go with dinner she immediately dropped the check and didn’t come back. If we happened to be in the immediate area for dinner we might stop in again but we won’t go out of our way to seek dinner there.
Pizza base was very average. Bland and tasteless. Any taste came from the excessive cheese. Not worth the price.
My 'burger' was not a burger but a greasy grilled cheese with burger patty in the middle. The meals did not arrive at the same time. My 'burger' arrived over 5 mins before the rest of the tables food.
Overall, disappointing experience. Glass of Sauvignon Blanc was served Luke warm too ....
Great place for meeting friends and enjoying excellent food.
If you’re plann
Great food great service. No issues with us taking out time. Definitely a place to go back to.
Great food, great energy, and the service was amazing. Our server Kasha (sorry if I spelled it wrong) was so good.
No AC, very hot inside, burrata is good but clearly frozen before bc it was hard inside
We were at a Politics & Prose book event and this was dinner after- We were seated promptly even though we were early. Waitresses attended to us timely through hectic and chaotic crowds- the place being packed to capacity. We ordered the serrano ham/pineapple pizza and the fish & chips with a mash substitute- and all came up good. This is a newly gentrified marketplace- we loved the murals across the back of the buildings. For a steamy hot mid summer evening the lively millenial ambiance was almost an over the top experience for us energized boomers. Fun and enjoyable for all.
The food was pretty bland and uninteresting. The concept is awesome and I love the location, but the food didn’t impress me.
It was nice
It was a pleasurable experience. From the initial greeting all the way down to our waiter. It was my first time and I’ll likely visit again while in the neighborhood.
We had the best experience! I cannot remember the name of our server but she was wonderful. We were visiting from NC and happened upon Bidwell and I would definitely recommend to anyone for brunch.
My wife did not care for her burger although all else was good. Unfortunately and through no fault of yours, our dinner was shortened by a fire alarm and as such, one of my guests had to leave. Therefore, only 3 had dinner.
Food was excellent! One of the best places I have eaten in DC. High Value and excellent service.
Pizza is super tasty! Really fun vibe in Union Market but can definitely get a little loud.
The salmon was very good and the service was very nice and friendly.
Busy but kind hostess, food sized seemed excessive for the amount of food. Great mimosas.
Came here for a dinner with a friend... great atmosphere, super nice waitstaff, and the food was delicious. Would definitely come here again!
BEST Nicoise salad: Tuna was seared perfect. The dressing not overpowering - just right. Unbelievably fresh and delicious. Hawaiian Tuna Nachos were like nothing I've ever tasted before. And a fabulous cocktail, wine and beer list. A must visit for any foodie!
Been to Bidwell a few times now. The Cobb Salad with steak cubes is great! However, I don’t see the draw of charcoal in pizza crust —- not that tasty. And, I wish the place served a bread basket because food comes out slowly. Would also note timing of dishes coming out could be better as this last time the pizza came out way before all the other entrees.
Bodwell’s food is always good. I like the location as well
Service was not great. Specifically, order was wrong and when corrected you can tell it was rushed and the food wasn’t that great. The waiter was also not attentive. Union Market is a nice area but would recommend other restaurants in the area.
We really like Bidwell, and go often. But we had a terrible evening there a couple nights back. Took some out of town friends who we wanted to experience Bidwell and Union Market. Almost comically bad service (unusual for Bidwell). Wrong food orders, mis-timed orders. A bottle of wine taking 15 minutes to arrive - by which time we’d finished the meal. A friend ordering a Gibson from the bar and the bartender being mystified. It’s a Martini with a cocktail onion. The server brought sliced onions in the side. Wow! That was a first. So - guys - do not rest on your laurels.
