About Bida Manda Restaurant and Bar
Right in the heart of downtown Raleigh, Bida Manda is a thoughtful and sharp gathering place celebrating the diverse food and culture of Laos. Bida Manda is one of the very first Laotian restaurants in the US. Sanskrit for father and mother, we name the restaurant Bida Manda as our way of honoring our parents in Laos who taught us everything we know about food, hospitality, and the power it has in bringing people together.
Our parents' recipes are the inspiration for our menu. Every dish on our menu is exactly what we grew up eating. They are the kind of dishes you might find on the street corners of Luang Prabang and at a Laotian home.
Come in and go away with us on sensational culinary journey to Laos.

Bida Manda Restaurant and Bar Ratings and Reviews
I honestly just love this place so much. The service is ALWAYS incredible; they're passionate, interested in you, committed to ensuring you have a memorable experience, and very efficient. Highly recommend when going with 3 or more people getting multiple dishes and eating family style.
My boyfriend and I chose Bida Manda for an anniversary dinner and our expectations were exceeded. We had our table only 5 minutes after the reservation on a super busy night and the wait staff was very helpful and charming, congratulating us on the event and recommending drinks. And of course the food was of the best in Raleigh. We will definitely be going again. I'd suggest reserving a table at the least one week ahead of time.
We showed up a little early for our reservation. They directed us towards the bar where we had a great cocktail before being seated early for a table. The service was impeccable, the food was tasty ( I husband and I are adventurous, so we tried some of the "traditional "styles, which were fun!), and they even give us a complimentary dessert to help celebrate her anniversary. I'm not local to the area, but if I ever return I will definitely visit this restaurant again! Great food, great cocktails, great service!
My husband and I came to Bida Manda for a long awaited date night, and it did not disappoint. The food and service was amazing! The atmosphere was perfect for a date night or a group of friends dining. My only complaint was a group of people that were extremely loud, making it hard for us, or any other diners, to hear our conversations. One couple even asked to be moved. Other than that, it was perfect!! Definitely check it out!
From the lovely greeting at the door, the well-crafted sangria from the bar while I waited for my party, to the attentive service at the table, I (we) were pleased with the entire experience...second time for us, first time for the rest of our party. They and we will definitely be back.
We’ve been wanting to try Bida Manda for some time; what a delightful meal. Although we were tempted by a number of offerings on the menu, it was a chilly evening and my friend and I chose comfort food~ beef pho with tripe and Tom yong gae, a flavorful cocoanut broth soup. Both were excellent! We shared a summer roll to start. It was tasty, but loosely wrapped and the contents spilled out of the wrapper at first bite. Our server was quite attentive without being intrusive. All in all we enjoyed our evening very much and look forward to further exploring the menu.
My boyfriend and I went to Bida Manda and it was one of the best restaurant experiences I’ve ever had. The hostess welcomed us with a great smile and asked about any special occasions—5th anniversary was the occasion. The waiter came to our table already knowing it was our anniversary. He provided great advice and input when I asked about items on the menu, all doing so with a great personality as well. He checked in with us periodically, but wasn’t overbearing at all. The food was delicious. Very fresh, authentic, and great portions. We were given a complimentary desert at the end of our meal which was delicious!!! When leaving, we passed by the hostess again and she wished us a happy anniversary once more. It was very nice that she remembered even though about an hour and a half had passed by and she seated many other people. Very pleased with the restaurant and would highly recommend!!!
1. Food - 9. 2 Waitress-10. 3. Front door service when coming in for lunch - 4. Bad very bad. 4. We had reservations through Open Table & you would not have thought it. The girl put us at the first table at the front of the resturant, near the front door. Not anyone’s choice. We only spent $80.00 for our get away quiet lunch - right.
Very disappointing dinner! The appetizers were just ok, nothing special. We didn't care at all for the thickly breaded trout. Why not just bake it naturally without all the padding? Also, the accompanying noodles were not tasty. On the vinegary side.
The macaroons for dessert were good. The wine was good. Service was good.
The BIGGEST problem with this restaurant is the exceedingly high noise level! Forget having a conversation with anyone at your table unless you can read lips!
I heard a lot of positives about this restaurant and finally tried it. Wow was this unimpressive. Had lettuce wraps, wings, ginger cashew chicken, salmon, and bean dessert. Nothing was very good. For the life of me, I don't know why this place has a long wait for weekend reservations. The bar next door looked more interesting and better food with their dim sum menu.
Full, rich and delicious food. Ate small plates. Rice lettuce wraps had that perfect crispy rice texture that's difficult to make. Getting an appetizer serving of Tom Ka Gai for $8 seemed like a reach but it turned out to really be an almost dinner-sized bowl. It is one of the finest soups I've had, although saltier than most. Very rich. Lemongrass sausage was the final dish. I enjoy meats and charcuterie of all sorts and this was nicely done. A nice break from cured, salted and smoked standards from other fare.
Incredible service from all the staff from the very beginning! Everyone was so friendly and welcoming and accommodating, we were truly blown away at the level of service and attention to detail. The food was absolutely delicious! Overall an excellent experience!
I have been to Bida Manda many times. Never have we had a meal that wasn’t excellent. The service has always been great. Others must agree because it is often difficult to get a reservation. We booked a Saturday night with friends 3 weeks in advance. They are also strict about times open. My daughter and I made a reservation for our birthday lunch as we share the same birth date. We were 5 minutes late and they would not seat us as they close for a little bit before dinner. That was the only disappointment we have had. We’ve gone back several times since then. They are extremely knowledgeable about gluten options as well as being noted on the menu.
