About Bida Manda Restaurant and Bar
Right in the heart of downtown Raleigh, Bida Manda is a thoughtful and sharp gathering place celebrating the diverse food and culture of Laos. Bida Manda is one of the very first Laotian restaurants in the US. Sanskrit for father and mother, we name the restaurant Bida Manda as our way of honoring our parents in Laos who taught us everything we know about food, hospitality, and the power it has in bringing people together.
Our parents' recipes are the inspiration for our menu. Every dish on our menu is exactly what we grew up eating. They are the kind of dishes you might find on the street corners of Luang Prabang and at a Laotian home.
Come in and go away with us on sensational culinary journey to Laos.

Bida Manda Restaurant and Bar Ratings and Reviews
Came for my birthday. Had a reservation bit the restaurant was running late but they provided free appetizers due to the wait. The sausage was amazing. The crispy rice lettuce wrap was really good but I don't think I would pay for it. I ordered the sea bass and it was so flaky and flavorful. My favorite item was my father's curry chicken. I was so exciting to go and I was not let down. I can not wait to go back!!!
The food didn't really seem as fresh as I remembered from my last visit.... there was no steam on any of the food... it seemed more like it was heated up. What was odd is that the vegetables weren't cooked all the way through. Disappointing considering how good it was last time I visited and how hard it is to geta reservation. we came in the day after snowfall so I bet that had an impact somehow... anyway, food was just ok overall but service was excellent.
Was expecting more considering the restaurant’s reputation but was sorely disappointed with the vegetarian options. The veg spring rolls appetizer and sticky rice dessert were good. However two of the veggie entrees were not available that evening and only one of the four entrees we ordered was decent and to our liking (herb salad). The Pad Tai was pedestrian and the Basil Stir Fry (tofu) and Saffron Crepe (veggie) were not great either. The Stir fry lacked any spiciness and the crepe appear to be too oily and soggy and not sure what the saffron in the name alludes to as I did not smell or see any. All in all, very poor tasting food for the exorbitant prices charged. No options on spice levels were provided when ordering though the waitress indicated it could be tuned when feedback was provided at the end of the meal.
Our meal and all the food was superb. Everything we expected given all the great reviews. However. We were celebrating an anniversary and were seated in a direct line from the front door. It was a very cold night and we continued to get blast of cold air each time the door was open. Difficult to relax , sit back and enjoy the full experience with the constant cold air blast. We will return but next time in warm weather!
AS always our lunch at Bida Manda was superb. The only reason I downgraded ambiance from the usual 5 to a three was because the room and floor were cold. Granted, the temperature outside was freezing, but I would have liked to see the heat turned up, if possible. Regardless, we will be back soon.
I had read about Bida Manda on Open Table, and since we had planned a post-Christmas trip to Raleigh, I made reservations for us. We shared one appetizer, pork spring rolls, and one entree, beef tenderloin basil stir-fry, because we had eaten a large lunch. What we had was very good although we were expecting a little more basil in the stir-fry. I regret that we weren't very adventurous in what we ordered, and I would encourage fellow diners to take greater advantage of what Bida Manda has to offer. We might have been more impressed with the food if we had tried something out of the ordinary.
My wife and I have been talking about trying Bida Manda for the longest time. We finally did and I am mad at myself for waiting so long. We went on Tuesday and turned around and booked another reservation to visit in a couple weeks. Can't wait to try more of the menu!
Everything about our meal at Bida Manda was incredible. I’ve been looking forward to trying this award winning restaurant for years, and when I finally got the chance, it did not let me. From our wonderful waiter Zak, a local artist / architect, to my delicious house pumpkin curry, it was amazing. I highly recommend Bida Manda to anyone in the RAleigh area! Ps get the crunchy lettuce wraps for an app 😉
The food at Bida Manda is consistently excellent and we always looks forward to eating there. We were a bit disappointed as service is usually excellent and we felt our server was not as attentive as we have come to expect, especially since it was not crowded.
Bida Manda never ever disappoints. And what a great backstory, if you get the chance to read about the owners, brother and sister, great people. Whiskey sour and lemongrass sausage starter for me, always. Filet, mandatory. Flavor, texture and the cultural experience of eating it with sticky rice and your fingers make the 2 hour drive worth it all. We drive from Wilmington, sometimes late night for an 11:00 seating, bc. we appreciate the consistent, delicious & unique dining experience. Plan ahead and reserve your table possibly a month or more in advance. Or, if you are a night owl, take a chance and maybe you can grab a couple of seats at the bar for the last seating, usually 11:45 on weekends. Laotian love! Words cannot describe.
We have been going to Bida Manda for our anniversary since it opened. We bring our friends to Bida for any special occasion that comes up and we have also brought our parents numerous times. Bida Manda is hands down our favorite restaurant in Raleigh and has been since it opened. So we are a little biased...
Last night was our 10 year anniversary! We briefly thought we would try somewhere new but decided Bida feels right for this. We were not disappointed.
We arrived a bit before our reservation so we went to order drinks at the bar. Jordan (the bar master) made me a special request drink since there was nothing on the menu that fit what I wanted and my partner ordered a regular manhattan. We mentioned it was our 10th anniversary & that he was the one who got us hooked on manhattans. When we were seated at our table, we got surprise glasses of champagne (as well as our drinks).
Then when we got our food (beef larb for me, pad thai for my partner), we also got a complimentary papaya salad because Jordan had told the wait staff it was a special night. The server told us about how papaya salad is typically eaten—with a meal—and we got to experience that! It as delicious!
And then, after we had finished our meals, they brought out macaroons. It was truly stunning to us that they cared that much about our special day. We have come to Bida MANY times before and they ALWAYS go above and beyond for celebrations. We are so lucky to have a restaurant that cares the way they do about events in our lives. (The food rocks too!!)
