About Bida Manda Restaurant and Bar
Right in the heart of downtown Raleigh, Bida Manda is a thoughtful and sharp gathering place celebrating the diverse food and culture of Laos. Bida Manda is one of the very first Laotian restaurants in the US. Sanskrit for father and mother, we name the restaurant Bida Manda as our way of honoring our parents in Laos who taught us everything we know about food, hospitality, and the power it has in bringing people together.
Our parents' recipes are the inspiration for our menu. Every dish on our menu is exactly what we grew up eating. They are the kind of dishes you might find on the street corners of Luang Prabang and at a Laotian home.
Come in and go away with us on sensational culinary journey to Laos.

Bida Manda Restaurant and Bar Ratings and Reviews
The food at Bida Manda is consistently excellent and we always looks forward to eating there. We were a bit disappointed as service is usually excellent and we felt our server was not as attentive as we have come to expect, especially since it was not crowded.
We have been going to Bida Manda for our anniversary since it opened. We bring our friends to Bida for any special occasion that comes up and we have also brought our parents numerous times. Bida Manda is hands down our favorite restaurant in Raleigh and has been since it opened. So we are a little biased...
Last night was our 10 year anniversary! We briefly thought we would try somewhere new but decided Bida feels right for this. We were not disappointed.
We arrived a bit before our reservation so we went to order drinks at the bar. Jordan (the bar master) made me a special request drink since there was nothing on the menu that fit what I wanted and my partner ordered a regular manhattan. We mentioned it was our 10th anniversary & that he was the one who got us hooked on manhattans. When we were seated at our table, we got surprise glasses of champagne (as well as our drinks).
Then when we got our food (beef larb for me, pad thai for my partner), we also got a complimentary papaya salad because Jordan had told the wait staff it was a special night. The server told us about how papaya salad is typically eaten—with a meal—and we got to experience that! It as delicious!
And then, after we had finished our meals, they brought out macaroons. It was truly stunning to us that they cared that much about our special day. We have come to Bida MANY times before and they ALWAYS go above and beyond for celebrations. We are so lucky to have a restaurant that cares the way they do about events in our lives. (The food rocks too!!)
I've been to Bida Manda twice and love everything about this restaurant. The food is distinctive and delicious, the ambiance is lovely, and the service is impeccable. If you live in Raleigh or are just passing through, be sure to make a reservation here. (P.S. I highly recommend the crispy rice lettuce cups and the lemongrass sausage appetizers.)
It's difficult to get into this restaurant but I've tried it twice. The first time I had the fish wrapped in a grape leaf and it was good but not exceptional as I had hoped. This time I tried the chicken wings (at our waiters recommendation) with 3 different sauces as my appetizer and the papaya salad with filet a mignon. First let me say the chicken wings were BASIC. Don't get them. The papaya was prepared uniquely well with a wonderful flavor. The steak was tender but didn't match the vibrant flavors of the salad. It was a standard steak. That's not a bad thing, but I guess my expectations were a +10 and that it should have had Loatian seasoning or flavor. Given the rave reviews I read, I was somewhat disappointed. Again, the food was good but it's not something I'd say you MUST go and try.
Now for the desserts. YUMMY! I don't have a sweet tooth but I know a great thing when I taste it. On my first visit I tried the dessert trio and was super impressed. I suggested to my co-worker that came with me this time that we should try it. However, she wanted to get the macaroons and the waiter agreed we'd love it. I've never had macaroons before so I have nothing to compare it to and these were absolutely wonderful. I'd go back just for drinks and either of these 2 desserts.
We were having a ‘mini reunion’ with my wife’s college roommate and her daughter. We had been to this outstanding restaurant before but it was our friends first time. Our server, Tram, took great care of us and our meals were delicious!
We highly recommend Bida Manda!
This was our second trip to Bida Amanda and we were just as pleased with this dining experience as the first time. I had a reservation for 4 and neglected to include my newborn grandson in this reservation . The hostess was very helpful in accommodating room for 5 instead of 4. They also have a “stand” that is perfect for baby carriers.
If you like a bustling restaurant, which I do, then this is the place for you! It has a sophisicated vibe serving authentic food with flavors that I have never had before. Everything is made from scratch. The food was simply marvelous!
This was our first visit and we absolutely loved it! We made our reservation about 3 weeks in advance (for a Tuesady night) so that ought to tell you something right there. Our server was superb. Food was hot and delicious. I recogonized the owner, Vanvisa, and she spoke to us at length and answered all of our questions.
It seemed there were lots of groups of friends enjoying dinner together. The table next to us had a previous diner who knew what he was doing and he ordered family style for the table.
Crispy Pork Belly Soup - a must to share! And go ahead and drink what Jordan is drinking!
I honestly just love this place so much. The service is ALWAYS incredible; they're passionate, interested in you, committed to ensuring you have a memorable experience, and very efficient. Highly recommend when going with 3 or more people getting multiple dishes and eating family style.
My boyfriend and I chose Bida Manda for an anniversary dinner and our expectations were exceeded. We had our table only 5 minutes after the reservation on a super busy night and the wait staff was very helpful and charming, congratulating us on the event and recommending drinks. And of course the food was of the best in Raleigh. We will definitely be going again. I'd suggest reserving a table at the least one week ahead of time.
We showed up a little early for our reservation. They directed us towards the bar where we had a great cocktail before being seated early for a table. The service was impeccable, the food was tasty ( I husband and I are adventurous, so we tried some of the "traditional "styles, which were fun!), and they even give us a complimentary dessert to help celebrate her anniversary. I'm not local to the area, but if I ever return I will definitely visit this restaurant again! Great food, great cocktails, great service!
