Bice at The Loews Portofino Bay Hotel Ratings and Reviews
Sadly, after four years of return visits to this Italian eatery at Loews Portofino, Bice has finally run its course. My companion and I have previous had wonderful experiences here, but this last visit was a deep disappointment. It seems Bice has made some changes to the menu that did nothing to improve it. And the service was lackluster. We were greeted by our waiter, who was friendly and made some suggestions, then we were passed on to another waiter, who at first was attentive and then basically disappeared, never checking to see how our meal was or if we wanted more wine. After giving me a taste of a pricey wine that was too tart for my tastes, I chose a less expensive Riesling. I was never asked if I would like another glass. It was as though I insulted the waiter. As for the food, the bruchetta appetizer tasted like it was on stale bread. My pappardelle, although fresh pasta, was slightly undercooked and stuck together, making the dish hard to eat. The sauce was tasty but nothing special--you can basically get a cream tomato sauce anywhere. Also, we were seated by a private room occupied by a very noisy group. They were given every attention, and the door to that room was kept open during much of our meal, so we were forced to listen to the loud conversations. After a dessert of gelato, the waiter placed the check on our table and said, "For our convenience." What does that even mean? We felt we were being shooed out of there. We have crossed this restaurant off our list of Universal Orlando favorites.
The dinner we had here was outstanding... absolutely exceeded my expectations. The service, the food, and the bay view were all incredible. There is absolutely nothing I would change and I would just like to thank the incredible staff and restaurant for such a memorable experience. I can’t wait to go back! Wish I could leave more than 5 stars. Was THAT good!
Great atmosphere! Lengthy wine list with good descriptions. Comprehensive dinner menu with additional daily chefs' specials. The best Italian restaurant in the Orlando area. The food was prepared and presented authentically Italian. Incredible dessert menu. All staff including hostess were courteous and attentive. Wait staff (Victor)gets 5 stars. A very pleasant dining experience.
Sat outside with a nice view of the plaza and hotel. Downstairs bar had live music which we could hear and added a nice touch to the ambience. Food was delicious. You could taste the quality of the EVOO and other ingredients used. Inside had live piano music. Overall a great date night dining experience.
Excellent environs - the resort is beautiful, Bicè is in a nice location with quaint Mediterranean feel overlooking the lake.
Impeccable service. Scallops were giant, so buttery and tasty, filet with foie gras was perfect.
Wish we didn't have dessert plans already as we didn't want to have to leave.
Opera in the piazza was a very nice touch.
Would highly recommend and definitely return when we are in Orlando next.
Me and my wife ended up eating here for our 2nd anniversary. We had set up our reservation for 7:00 PM the day before and called roughly 2 hours prior to confirm it. We arrived around 20 minutes early and we were seated regardless with a beautiful outside location. The night was gorgeous and calm, the server was great and attentive. I had the 60 day aged NY Strip and my wife the Caesar chicken salad for entrees, the steak was cooked to perfection. Her salad was of course a salad with grilled chicken. Not much for me to pick on anything really. Great experience, great food, attentive service, of course the price is much higher than your average dinner location but you get what you pay for. Will be sure to come back.
Excellent food and service. Chilean sea bass was prepared to perfection. Osso bucco was excellent. Cocktails and wine were quite good. Souffle dessert was well worth the wait (takes extra time to prepare). Server was quite attentive. A nice place for a special occasion.
Eat outside if weather permits. Great views of harbor and hotel. Live opera nightly outdoors. Sausage risotto, charcuterie, salads, lamb chops, and veal were all excellent. Service was impeccable. The only challenge is it is hard to find. It is many stairs/elevators and a long walk from entrance with poor signage. Worth the trip. Just arrive early to get there once car parked.
Bice is the nicest, most romantic restaurant in the Universal Orlando area. What a respite from the fun chaos in the parks. We enjoyed a cocktail on the beautiful patio while listening to the live musicians and opera singer across the piazza. Coming inside for dinner we were treated with quiet ambiance. The food was superb, matched by the attentive service. Whenever we are in the area and needing an adult evening out, we will revisit this lovely restaurant.
The place and the atmosphere are lovely. I had a wagyu beef appetizer that was truly outstanding. The salad, though, was a big disappointment. It should have arugula, radicchio and endives. When the salad came, I could immediately see they had substituted spinach for the arugula. I point this out to the waiter, who confirms I wanted the tricolore salad, and that that should be arugula. I tell him I am sure it is spinach. He takes the plate back to the kitchen, comes back with a new salad, and mentioned the chef apologized for the mistake. The salad is overdressed, and I got charged for it. They gave me the dessert as a gift, but that would have happened anyway since it was my birthday. I think they should not have charged me for the salad.
We had a wonderful birthday celebration at Bice. The wine and cocktails were terrific as was every morsel of food from the bread to the salad to the entrees to the dessert. Brandon, our server, made excellent suggestions and guided us through a perfect meal.
The food was good - I had the short-rib stuffed ravioli (excellent) in a cream sauce, my husband had the Wagyu steak which was over-seasoned and arguably not Wagyu quality. Endive salad with walnuts and goat cheese was also yummy. Service was excellent. The cocktails were weak and expensive: $16 for a pama & cranberry martini that might have had a tablespoon of vodka, followed by a $16 strawberry muddled seltzer with vodka that tasted like strawberry seltzer. $32 and not even a slight buzz (and I'm a lightweight). I would recommend this place for the food and service, but get wine or scotch and not the mixed drinks.
Unfortunately the night we were there was a Sunday before a holiday. A lot of children and very noisy with a large convention group.
The waiter Robert was the best. He kept apologizing for the noise level of a few of the screaming children.
The food and service was outstanding. The osumbuca was the best. Would love to go back again on a different night.
