A little gem in a big way! Everything we ate was cooked to perfection. For those liking adventure, five of the seven courses were dishes we wouldn’t attempt ourselves. The team made us feel like we were special guests in their home . Chef Pierre and his team make French dining very accessible. Thank you for a wonderful evening.
Amazing cuisine, but the service did not come near to matching the quality of the restaurant. Particular attention was paid by the wait staff to select tables, and the remainder of the restaurant was largely neglected. Small things such as refilling water glasses were not done throughout the night. Chef Calmels came out to personally and sincerely thank each diner for spending the night with him at his restaurant, however the same gratitude was unfortunately otherwise noticeably absent.
Amazing culinary experience and very personalized. Chef Pierre Calmels visited each table at the end of their meal to speak with every patron. Wonderful and exotic food rolls out with perfect pacing in the seven-plus servings (extra unique offerings are often added to the dinner). BYOB is a plus. This is an exceptional dining experience and the pricing reflects that.
One of the best meals we have ever had and certainly one of the best restaurants in Philly. The foie gras was probably the best foie gras we have ever had. The magret de canard and soup de salsifis were also amazing. The tarentaise aligot was one of the most unique dishes we have ever ate. Dessert was also top notch with hot chocolate souffle. The only down side was we paid an extra $25 per plate for truffles on the magret de canard and soup de salsifis ($100) which honestly we do not think added $100 worth of flavor. We would definitely recommend even with the steep price because it will be one of the best meals you will ever eat, just skip the truffles.
The attention to detail in this lovely French restaurant evolved into an exquisite experience dish by dish.. it is all so subtle yet complex that you want to savor each bite. Yet it is hard to imagine that they change their menu every night!! Makes me want to return weekly to see what new creations are being served, though the price of this price fixe dining experience and the richness of the food wood suggest maybe a bit less frequently would be prudent.

A mouthwatering delight from start to finish. Chef puts the menu up to view on restaurant website prior for the week plus suggested wine pairing - make sure you look in advance as this really helps to make an extraordinary experience unreal!
The soufflé was so light that it tasted like we were eating sweet air and the grilled swordfish belly melts in your mouth! Worth every penny !
Bibou remains a shining star in the Philly restaurant scene, and still gets my vote as the best restaurant in the Delaware Valley. Great food and attentive service, with Chef Calmel's passion coming through in every bite. Just wish it was closer to my home!
Briefly stated, each bite was an explosion of airy deliciousness shocking you with flavor and surprise. As always, service was quietly impeccable further enhancing the evening’s charm. Along with the high standards for his selections Chef Calmels and staff sustain a relaxed ambiance of warmth and genuine interest in creating a memorable dining evening. Can’t wait to get back again and again.
Great spot! Everything was top notch. My wife doesn't like foie gras and not only did they make her something else, but they printed up a different menu too with the different dish on it. The chef came out at the end to thank us and ask how everything was. From service to food, five stars all the way. I'm already looking forward to the next time we can go there!
As good as it gets!!! We have been to Bibou a number of times but this may have been the best. It was a very special night for my wife and the staff and chef treated us so well. The tasting menu is creative and brilliant. Chef Pierre's cooking is always world-class but this time he outdid himself. The pace of the evening was perfect, culminating in a very special cake. We simply love this intimate, world-class restaurant.
Simply one of the best tasting menu experiences I have had. Cozy, charming, Bibou seats twenty, total, and the entire staff serves each table. Chef Pierre greeted all the tables personally. The meal started off with threw delightful capons. The gazpacho and scallop dishes were solid. Everything after this was utterly amazing, so that the meal crescendoed delightfully towards the artful fig soufflé - that and the foie gras (I feel badly eating fois gras, but this was a delightful dish) with pumpkin bread, chocolate saboyan and cacao nibs was the other show stealing dish, but overall the meal was tremendously balanced, sumptuous, and par excellance.
Our last trip to Bibou was before the renovations. The re-do was modest and I don't think it did much to improve the "cramped" feel of the place. Bibou is an honest, simple, down-to-earth place for French food in Philly but there were issues. Most important was that the food tasted and felt tired and too old hat. Who really serves a terrine of aubergine and red peppers any more? The cold mussel and curry soup was interesting but the temperature left an off taste to the mussel pieces that were in the soup. The best course was the fish (sea bass I think) that was cooked to perfection and as fresh as can be. We were offered shavings of black truffle with the squab course but there was no scent at all of the truffle on the glass-covered plate of them, so we declined. Finally the pistachio souffle was fair but nothing luscious or ethereal here, as souffles should be. The restaurant was fair, well meaning and good for value. But I believe it would be more honest as an a la carte place, serve what it's good at (like the escargot which was not in the tasting any longer), and do away with the tastings.
It was such a pleasure dining at Bibou again. From the owner/chef, Pierre, to the manager, Jeffrey, and the wait staff, Delroy and Eli, everyone make each dinner quite the experience; every night at Bibou is a special one...you feel like you're celebrating even if it's just another Wednesday night. The food is always beyond delicious and is beautifully presented, and the wait staff is knowledgable and very attentive. The intimate setting is also a nice change; you know they are making a quality meal when they are cooking for a small group. The menu had a lot of variety yet flowed; the foie gras did not disappoint, and the lamb and halibut were cooked to perfection. The souffle (as always) is also top-notch! The added truffles to a few of the courses were also a nice touch. Cannot wait to come back!
If I only had one meal left on earth, I'd have dinner at Bibou. It is always outstanding in every way, from service to the always exquisite tasting menu (where you will not leave hungry). We save our best wines for this BYOB. And we always leave asking ourselves how soon we can get back. The dining room is always full of regulars that also realize it is quite simply the best restaurant in Philadelphia.
