Too expensive for what you get
The appetizers were great, we shared Grilled Octopus and the meatballs. Our entrees were disappointing: Bucatinin, Risotto and Cavatelli. Overall the flavor of each entrée was bland. No offer of fresh ground pepper or grated cheese: we had to ask for these. The additional pepper and cheese was helpful. However, for entrees ranging from $22 to $28, these additions, in my opinion, should not have been necessary. It had been a while since I ate at Bibiana - I doubt that I will return.
Our experience was poor right off the bat. The waiter hastily took the menus away from us at the table and was overall very dismissive. The food was below average, as the steak was cold and horribly undercooked. The spaghetti squash that came with the dish was bland and looked like it had been sitting in Tupperware all night. The service in general made us feel rushed. We spent about 45 minutes at the restaurant and felt pressured to leave.
Awful. Staff over salted a salad. Like really over salted it. I'm not a chef but it was so salty it was like a 4 year old over salting their very first boiled egg. Sent it back. The chef came out and said I didn't know what I was on about, saying parmesan cheese is the reason. There are other complaints I have but in the end of the day this place lacks the luster it advertised. The management has deteriorated I will not return there or the conglomerates like Rasika
from the minute you walk in the door you are greeted by friendly staff in a elegant setting .
highly recommend Bibianna. a short walk from City Center shops. superb Italian cuisine from
talented chef formerly from Casa Tua in Miami Beach does not disappoint.
Did not like the new menu as much as the former one
Delicious Italian fare in a contemporary, well-appointed setting and impeccable service. We thoroughly enjoyed the short ribs and the swordfish. The tiramisu and the bombolino deserts were to die for.
Wonderful food and atmosphere!
I thought the portions were insufficient for the price of each meal. The food needed a lot more flavor. Though the restaurant was recommended by a friend, overall we were disappointed.
Celebrated my friends bday at Bibiana. We were blown away with the service and cuisine! Bravo!
Our experience at Bibiana was perhaps the highlight of the winter dining season. The food was excellent. The service was superb. It was a simply delightful evening.
My spouse and a friend and I had a memorable dinner. I had only been there once before for a Restaurant Week lunch and enjoyed the food then. The menu had some truly interesting options and the wine list had a spectacular number of good Italian wines listed by region. We shared a wonderful bottle of borolo. My octopus appetizer was amazingly good and so was my pasta dish. We enjoyed all of our courses. Convenient to the Metro. We will definitely go again.
delicious food. excellent service. some unusual dishes but really tasty. a good choice for something a little different. Check out the menu!!
This is a good restaurant, with fine food and acceptable service. But for the prices we would have expected excellence across the board -- not just a nice dinner. A sazarac cocktail for $18? A glass of wine for $21 (chosen by the waiter)? Small portions of the main courses accompanied by high prices ($30+ for a piece of fish)? You would think given the multiple choices for excellent Italian restaurants (e.g., Fiola, Tosca) Bibiana would seek to distinguish itself in same fashion or moderate its pricing unless it survives based upon a theater crowd.
Food as always was outstanding, and our service was too, on a night that the winds must have kept a lot of diners away. I appreciated how attentive our server was to my old friend and I catching up, they did not disturb us in the slightest as we closed the place down. The agnolotti with foie gras was totally to die for, as was the crudo swordfish appetizer, kind of like sushi but delicate and beautiful. Thank you, Bibiana! I will be back!
remarkable food and service. the new chef is outstanding. we will go back soon.
Wonderful all round and an honor to meet chef Navone
After going to other Italian restaurants around DC I thought Bibiana's food was fair. The pastas are impeccable but the sauces were either too heavy or one note in flavors. The appetizer I ate, the meatball with polenta was good. The polenta was delicious, could have eaten that all night but the meatball lacked seasoning. Drinks were great, and the atmosphere was elegant, but the dishes were a bit lacking in flavor.
We enjoyed a very delicious meal, taking dishes from different parts of the menu at the same time, which were presented flawlessly. The service was excellent and the room was quiet enough for our group to talk and hear effortlessly. We loved having a round table for our special family night out. W e sampled from every part of the menu- anitpasti, charcuterie, paste e risotto, secondi and dessert( excellent tiramisu!)- and it was all wonderful.
We visited on a friend's recommendation when family arrived in town on short notice. Food was excellent--wonderful tuna tartare, pasta and seafood dishes and other entrees. They had a strong wine list with many very nice Italian selections and reasonable prices. Service was very attentive and unobtrusive. It was a great experience that drew strongly favorable comments from everyone--and with family dinners, that speaks volumes.
Everything about our evening was perfect. We sat at the bar waiting for other members of our party and the bartender was wonderful and helped us pick the perfect wine. Once sat at the table our waiter gave us some of the best service I have ever received. The food was beyond fabulous. And although we didn’t have room for it we decided to get some dessert as well. This is a must anytime we have people come in from out of town!
What a treat! We had such a great time!
Went to Bibiana recently for a meal with a client and everything was exceptional. Great food, very attentive and knowledgeable server, excellent Sommelier with great wine suggestions and a beautiful dining room where you can actually have a conversation with your guests! I think the chef is new and the food was really outstanding! Don't miss the secondi pastas to share with the table!
Coming from out of town and we were welcomed by the staff even though we were in our traveling clothes
Service was impeccable. Carapacio was excellent. Frito Misto suitably crisp, not greasy and not overcooked, e.g., good fried seafood, not unique. Tagliatelle had good overall flavor but individual tagliatelle were kind of small (compared to that of both my grandmothers and what I've had in Italy) and pasta was not the most delicate I've had in DC, the combination resulting in less than a satisfying mouthful of filling. Coniglio was disappointing; overall flavor was good but meat was too dry and about a third of it had very tough connective tissue running through it. We'll try again. Maybe stick to Sietsma's January picks.
My son and I both ordered the pasta bolognese which was about $25. When they brought it to us we were speechless. Seriously like 20 noodles!!! We had to ask for more bread as we were still hungry. On the way out I complained and was told the pasta was supposed to be a starter dish like in Italy. I told him$25 for pasta is not a starter dish and if it was not entree sized we should have been told. The funny thing is they offer half servings of pasta dishes. It would have been microscopic!
This was a first for us in DC traveling from Europe and I'm glad we took the concierge's suggestion to try Bibiana. We were concerned that it might be a typical Italian -American restaurant where we would be served a so much food. The portions are perfect. And the menu truly authentic.
We had such a great time and we will definitely return! My husband can't stop raving about the braised shortribs.
Service was excellent. Staff were very attentive. Food presentation was stunningly amazing. Enjoyed it!
We’ve been to Bibiana a few times before and love their regular menu. Hoping to have the option of selecting off of their regular menu, we were told we could only select from the Valentine’s menu, which was a bit disappointing. Originally I was going to cancel my reservation due to illness, but they were going to charge me for canceling or no show, which is another disappointment. Will probably go back when there’s no special menu as we do enjoy their regular menu.
I've been to Italy many times and Bibiana certainly provides the same feel of the restaurants that I've been to in Milan. I really appreciate the manner in which the menu is designed wherein I could try a lot of different items. I will definitely return!
Nice, sleek setting and very good service. A bit disappointed in the execution of the cooking. The seafood stew (mostly clams and mussells with a dried out scallop) had a very tasty sauce but the ingredients were not first rate and was slightly overcooked. Portion size was lacking. The Branzino was also slightly overcooked, but passable. The pastas tended to be better and the meatball appetizer on soft polenta was the highlight. Overall, the meal was OK, but there are better options for Italian cuisine.
Very good overall. Went for birthday and food was very good. Ambiance was special. The host was especially great and went out of his way to make the evening special. The waiter was professional in a very good way and did a wonderful job. Would highly recommend as upscale Italian (portions small, but very good).
New chef who is very creative. amal, great service and ambience, good wine and cocktails.
Our server was knowledge and recommended good plates. He did push a second bottle of wine that I am not sure we wanted but we ordered. Food was inconsistent. Some was very good, some not so good. Wine list was extensive but overpriced. Pasta was solid but not as good as Fiola mare, Filomena, Fiola or tail up goat.
Service was outstanding. Matt took excellent care of us, answered our questions, made suggestions and thoroughly enjoyed our enjoyment. Food was/is always devine.
Refreshed menu was delicious. Tried four appetizers and two pasta entrees. Service was well-paced with food coming to the table in perfect timing. Great service and dining experience. Had not been there in a few years so have added it back to my list of "must go" restaurants.
My friend and I celebrated a belated birthday over a delicious, beautifully presented lunch on an otherwise gloomy, chilly day. Everything about the food and service was A+. Two women lunching, we split each item and created our own "sampler" meal. The salad was fresh and perky, the pasta delicious, and the short ribs truly delectable. The waiter couldn't have been better, and the maitre d', having evidently overheard a remark I made while checking my coat on the way in, had a delectable dessert (with candle) sent to our table. I would recommend this restaurant on all counts.
The octopus appetizer is absolutely fabulous, perhaps the best we ever had. One fried calamari appetizer had to be sent back - overcooked and dried out plus the calamari was rubbery. No problem at all to get an alternate appetizer. Branzino was divine and perfectly prepared. The short ribs were good but overcooked and both the ribs plus the polenta and spinach accompanying it were way over salted. The wine recommendations were perfect!. Dessert was luscious. Service a delight!
