Great venue and service. Food was high quality and delicious. Portions were slightly too small for the price, however.
Tasty food and good service. I had the eggplant parmigiana and my boyfriend had the spaghetti and meatballs.
Go to for business lunches, quiet, good service and great food.
New items on menu.
Love the fish of the day - always excellent preparation.
Pasta and meatball is always a "go to" favorite!
Excellent food and excellent service would definitely return to this restaurant
Great service. Food was delicious. Fantastic music. Outdoor seating is the way to go!
Food was outstanding. Service was intermittent and it took over an hour to get our lunch. Such a disappointment because as i mentioned the food is top notch. If you don't have time for a 2 hour lunch, don't pick Bethel Union.
This was my first dining and it was an overall great experience. The people were friendly. The food was so tasty. Definitely will be back to try more.
All of our food tasted very good. However, the ravioli special came with 4 ravs on a plate, and that was all. No sides or interesting plating. For $20. My boyfriend was still really hungry so I gave him about half of my meal. It was busy, before an event at the Theater, but our service was spotty at best.
Great food, atmosphere, service! Convenient for pre-Hawaii Theater get togethers. Will come back again!
Luckily we arrived 15 minutes early for our 6:45pm reservation because we waited a FULL HOUR to get our meal with little or no service or checking in by our server. If 2 salads and a bowl of soup takes that long i hate to think what a full meal wait would be. Dont eat here if you need to be anywhere within 2hours!
LOVE this place. The food is great. If you like beets, try their beet salad. Fantastic. I also had the clam chowder. Great! The service is excellent. It's a great place to bring family and friends for a great meal and conversation. Excellent for people watching.
I'm a frequent customer at Bethel Union and really like their lunch menu for business meetings. I had made a reservation well ahead of time and requested a table inside but when my party arrived at the restaurant we were told the only available tales were outside. It was drizzling and I was worried that it would rain harder during our meal. The server told us that we had no other choice so we ended up sitting outside. While that was disappointing, since I had made my request to sit inside when I made the reservation, we got lucky and it didn't rain much harder.
Usually, the food service at Bethel Union is excellent. However, this time, it took about a half hour from when we were seated to get our food. I know the restaurant was busy that day but it's always busy at lunch time so I was surprised that they took so long.
I'll go back again, for sure, but just hope the service improves.
If you want to an opportunity to order "something different", Bethel Union has always had amazing fresh fish dishes. My favorite regular menu item though is still fresh made spaghetti pasta with marina sauce and meatballs - yumm!!
Pleasant weeknight evening. Sat outside as inside quite noisy; outside quieter but quite dark. Delicious calamari, octopus, spicy chicken wings. Fries were very good, and nicely shaped in large curls, so outside crisp and inside creamy.
This is my second visit this month. The food was outstanding and the service amazing. This restaurant is a bit above my price range, but it is absolutely worth it. I will be back.
Reading a review, I agree the octopus salad was delicious. We also ordered beet salad (good), a canapé (average), like a brown rice risotto (not what we ordered, but we enjoyed it), mocktails (the li hing one was better). Celebrated two birthdays, both hadn't been to this restaurant or its predecessor, and they were both very happy and had a great time.
Server was handling all the tables and doing it well. He was Personable and efficient. Food was really tasty and portions just right for lunch.
This was my first time to Bethel Union and I'm definitely going back! It's in what used to be Brasserie Du Vin but they enclosed it and added a/c. Grilled Octopus appetizer was excellent! Our entrees were good too. I think our server's name was Kevin and he was great. My only negative comments are the acoustics is bad (very noisy) and the food was a little slow coming out of the kitchen.
Showed up for a very late date-night dinner on a Friday night and they were basically empty, save for a few couples at the bar.
The service was good and it was quiet enough to carry on a normal volume conversation since it was pretty empty. Unfortunately, both the food and drinks were a little off their flavor (I didn't want to put them on blast with public details of what didn't taste right, but did share with them the feedback privately.)
The ambiance was nice, though, so we may give it another go in the future.
It was a quiet lunch hour with only a few customers on the day my friend and I dined which was nice for conversation. Our mixed greens salads were fresh and nicely presented, but without the wow factor we were expecting from the website photos. Service was fast and friendly.
Ambience nice. Right across hawaii theater so very convenient. Appetizers were great. Awesome fries. Unique and very tasty.
Good selection of wines.
Was very noisy early around 6:30 cuz of the bar area. But quieted down later in evening.
Service was great!
Chairs hard wood so uncomfortable. But all in all a good find in the middle of Chinatown. Very quaint.
food always delicious, service was really slow and server forgot a dish, but comped it on bill
Pre-theater dinner on a Saturday and our first time eating at Bethel Union. We liked the food and the service. My favorites were the grilled calamari appetizer, the Caesar salad, and the clam linguine, but everything we ordered was delicious with original touches. We’ll be back!
Everything I had was excellent! I went for lunch, and the hummus appetizer and panzanella salad were excellent! I would definitely go there again.
Terrific food and friendly thoughtful service. Nice wine selection as well. We have a great time.
Great service, fresh ingredients and wonderfully seasoned!
Unique menu with delicious made from scratch items - love the fresh made pasta!
My first visit since the restaurant re-opening a years ago. Ambience is remarkable, service exceptional and the food/menu are creative, balanced, well thought out, fresh, innovative, perfectly seasoned and executed. The platings and presentations are "5-Star." Chef Noah Akin is a guy to watch, he works magic with his culinary skills and his passion... BRAVO! This will be my new "go to" spot.
Music selection on a Friday evening was not great. It sort of killed the mood. Other then that food tasted great.
excellent food, but way overpriced. I appreciate the corkage fee feature but $25.00 is a bit too much
I recommend you do not enter this restaurant until after 7 PM. It was a madhouse of people going to the Hawaii theater when we got there at six. The server was friendly but inept. The portions were very small. My Sicilian chicken was served cold it was supposed to be hot. My husband‘s spaghetti carbonara was served cold it was supposed to be hot. The food was tasty but we were very disappointed in the service and portions and the fact that our dinners came cold having sat too long before served. Extremely noisy which I found stressful. .
Went there prior to show at Hawaii Theater
Perfect pre-Hawaii Theatre dinner location! We were there during happy hour (an unexpected bonus) and had a combo of an app & salad from the HH menu and the fresh fish (ono) of the night. Absolutely delic! Loved that the fish came on a bed of risotto and had perfectly cooked/seasoned veg garnish on top. Really nice ambiance and great service!
The food was great and the service even better. I got to try a variety of the dishes and they were all really tasty.
Great food and friendly place, especially Kevin at the bar. We arrived for an early dinner before an event and were serve efficiently. Fun people.
The service was excellent, decor and atmosphere very nice. The food was very good but I felt the dinner entree portions were small.
Great Italian option in Chinatown. Menu has a good variety of dishes and daily specials are nice. Food and serivce were good. Location is a little off the main restaurant zone in Chinatown but worth the detour.
The food was great - but the value for the food, not so much. I think that they are trying to be more of a high-end place, but the reality is the location is in the middle of downtown and a lot of people work nearby. I'm not sure that the average person will want to spend $30 for lunch and still be hungry afterwards.
The wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable, they did lack a dedicated seating host which slowed our seating time, the one unfortunate circumstance is that we were not warned about certain items running out until after we made our choices. A forewarning is preferred. The decor inside is nice, the food excellent, and very very loud.
