Best Girl - Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles
We had a fabulous meal after seeing a movie at The Ace Theater! We highly recommend this darling place!
We went to have lunch before going to adjoining Theatre. the bar was comfortable as we were a little early, and bar server attentive & friendly - I liked the comfortable padded leather bar rail. When they showed us to our table it was the worst in the place (small even for 2 people against a large post), and there were other larger tables there were available. They did move us when we said something, but I wonder why we had to do that. After ordering we didn't see a server until when it was time for our check, we asked for some water too. The servers were just on the other side of the wall where we were sitting by the front desk, so they were very close to us. We could hear them chatting but we felt ignored. Didn't get up to the roof top bar which I hope to visit another time. Nice vibe but would've liked to have better service.
Good food - we did brunch - and some of the best Posole I have ever had. The rest can be hit and miss. Eggs Benedict (dropped eggs) were literally hard boiled. The Mortadella sandwich was good. Overall, convenient, good quality and good service. Kitchen can be slow. Will go again when I am there, but not a destination.
Ambience was just ok. Everyone was very friendly for such a hip place. Food was very good.
The food and service is great (although our appetizer of a shrimp/fish dish was a bit lackluster). The place has a great vibe and I would highly recommend — especially if you're going to an event at the Ace Theater next door!
My friend and I both loved our brunch meal at Best Girl. My salad was great and his pancakes were fantastic. The space is really cool with some fun, yet subtle, art (just black and white drawings of random pop culture stuff). Unfortunately our server literally disappeared after taking our order. She also left a charge on our bill for a drink they couldn't serve me (due to a lack of ingredients). The manager and bartender both helped us out in the end, but we waited a really long time with no server in sight. If the service here shapes up as good as the food, it'll be a place worth visiting!
Hi Patrick, Thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear there was an issue with your server and the cocktail. Sounds like we were able to resolve the issue but it definitely shouldn't happen in the first place. Feel free to reach out to me directly next time you're in and we'll make sure you have a great experience! Cheers, Brett General Manager
TheNY oysters are great！
The lunch staff is more friendly and engaging with the customers. I wait more than 5 minutes for toast which I think is a little ridiculous when there is only 4 tables being served. When asked for opinion from the waitress she was very vague. Overall it was average but lunch time was better
Excellent if you are staying at the ACE Hotel or going to a show next door the food is wonderful and the drinks. Priced just right.
It was a comedy of errors. We went on Friday 5/17 at 7:30 pm. We were seated on the patio. It took 30 minutes to get our drinks. By this time we had finished our waters which were never refilled. While waiting for our drinks, we noticed multiple wrong orders being delivered to surrounding tables, orders that came out with the busboy asking every table if this was their order and finding no one. Drinks coming out that didn’t match any table and sat on side console.
Baked clams finally came and were very chewy. The famous BTU burger was nothing to write home about and my fries seemed to be from the bottom of the bag. Mostly potato bits with maybe 10 whole fries. Gnocchi was meh.
The restaurant began to clear out when the show at the Ace next door started but by this time wait staff seemed depleted and our own waiter never returned to our table. Finally, another waiter came around and asked us if we wanted the drinks that hadn’t found a home. We gladly accepted.
Perhaps this was an off night, but from the kitchen to the wait staff, they seemed wholly unprepared for a Friday night with two shows going on nearby.
The menu never disappoints. Third or fourth dinner here and it is our go to for dinner before a show.
Prompt seating. Friendly and attentive service. Yummy food.
Loud. Busy. Slow service but nice waiter. Food great!
So wonderful! Armando was our server and he was the best!!
Cute little place in Downtown! Loved the food and service.
Everything we tried was delicious and prepared perfectly , our waiter was gracious and assured the vegan in our party that the ingredients used were clean .
Looking forward to dining there again next time in LA
Great service by all the employees. We were treated like VIP. Excellent good, had the BTU Burger and my boyfriend had the Pasta. The fries and burgers were mouth watering and the pasta was delicious as well, cooked to perfection. Wine selection by server was on point for what we wanted. Excellent experience, we decided to go back for breakfast the next day.
Recommendation for ambience and convenience to the hotel/theater. We were served cold, salty fries with a $33 steak dish. Crudo was salty, wine selection is (meh), pasta dish sat for too long before being served.
Really awesome experience, food, service and general vibes
Great food and service! Drinks were creative and tasty!
I’ve to Best Girl for dinner and was very excited about returning and were hoping for an extensive menu for Easter Sunday. We were planning on arriving at 1 pm so I had called in advance to see whether the menu would be a brunch or lunch. We were told brunch/lunch. We arrived early (around noon) and the menu was clearly a breakfast menu. I ordered the avocado-cod dish and while it was delicious it was very skimpy, as it sat on one slice of bread. My husband had the buckwheat pancakes, good and plentiful, but not out of the ordinary.
We were basically ignored by our waitress.
They were out of three lunch items, two of which we were told after we ordered. On a very short menu.
The waitress was very nice and apologetic
We did not like anything about this restaurant. It was crowded, noisy, you are seated RIGHT NEXT to other people there so you get to hear their arguments and conversations, service was very slow and to top it all off everything we ordered was bad and overpriced. I ordered an ahi tuna appetizer which for some reason they paired with pinto beans and some kind of celery salad? The tuna was tasteless and it was just weird with the beans. My main course was the gnocchi which was overcooked and also didn't have much flavor. My friend ordered the steak and it was mostly fat, it seemed like only 1/3 of it was actual meat. The only thing I did enjoy here was the sour pale beer that came in a bottle. We hardly saw our waitress and every time we did she had some excuse as to why we hadn't seen her in a while. Even when the place cleared out we still didn't see much of her, and just handed her our credit card as soon as we did see her so we could pay our bill and get out of there without having to wait another 10 minutes for her to show up. We went to this restaurant because we were going to a show at the Ace so it was convenient, but next time we will make the extra trek and go somewhere else worth our time and money. We were so disappointed with this place, but at least the show we went to was good.
The unfortunate situation was that they ran out of one of the entrees, and they didn't mention it until they were serving the other entrees. we were rushing to a show. They graciously gave us a free appetizer as well as a neighbor discount, and a very large cookie...The staff are terrific.... The system just needs a tweaking. We will go back there.
I was a little nervous about this reservation, since the reviews were mixed. We came here before a show at the theater, and so the convenience won out (one valet fee at a reasonable price). The food and service were actually better than I expected based on past reviews. We had the house rose, oysters, bread, greens, the chicken and steak frites. All were delicious. The only down side, was that the space and tables are small, so it makes for a noisier less relaxed dining experience. The energy and vibe are fun, and I would definitely recommend for a more casual meal while in the area, or before a show.
It was my birthday and everything was lovely! The food was amazing, the service was outstanding! Such a cool place to be!
My burger was great! My sisters had a new dish that she didn't like (some chicken dish (leg) with carrots.
The waitress was very nice about it and didn't charge us for her meal. We weren't looking for that but it was very nice and professional of them.
Excellent pre theater venue! Upbeat, varied menu - something for everyone. There is a mixologist, and drinks creative and delicious. Had dinner before theater and dessert after. Lovely!
Awesome brunch place. Outside seating available. Great music, coffee, and food is the best. Bar has a good mixologist as well. Good service.
Wonderful drinks and food! ♥️
Bring ear plugs if you want to talk
But definitely go
Great location, solid food, very good service at the table. But hosts took several minutes to seat us in an almost empty restaurant, and seemed more interested in chatting among themselves than taking care of patrons.
Great brunch spot! would highly recommended. Near lots of other restaurants, shops and bars in downtown. Food is great and so is the service and ambience. I only dinged a star because the parking situation is not so great, but that's typical for any downtown spot.
Very cramped tables, lots of noise and loud music— if you like this kind of energy dining you will be happy. Food comes fast- prices are reasonable - menu a tad limited. But they do have a dish in every category- beef, fish, chicken, vegetarian, pork and so on. I had the chicken which sounded like a chicken breast but turned out to be half a chicken that was roasted with potatoes and carrots and peas. Potatoes were nice, carrots were perfect, fresh peas were also really good. But only about eight peas, and carrots weee around half of one carrot. Potatoes were plentiful however. Chicken in my opinion was undercooked - almost raw near the bones— likely cooked to just barely 165. My preference is chicken cooked more.
Service was rushed and rather distracted. Ice tea only topped off after food was all eaten. Took too long to get a bill. Desserts - almost all liquor based — nothing that interested me or my wife. They have birthday cake at the rooftop bar - they might offer this simple non-alcoholic and non- coffee flavored dessert on their menu in this restaurant also. Also the chicken was stacked in a small bowl making it very difficult to cut up with a knife with any grace - my wife asked if I had a license for surgery. I thought the menu should have said “half a chicken” in a bowl rather than sounding like a prepared chicken breast with fresh vegetables.
Overall a rushed meal in a noisy environment with food that had some touches of quality - likely much nicer on a weeknight evening or lunch other than Friday evening.
We had a wonderful experience at Best Girl. The server was the most wonderful and personable young man. The burger was fantastic. I will definitely be back!
Great place to come to AFTER the show next door, unless you want coffee; the coffee bar is closed. That said it was worth coming back for a second time
Nice room, decent food, but slow drink service. However, staff was friendly.
We arrived early and they allowed us to be seated. Nothing that we could order from the "happy hour" menu, so we enjoyed their special cocktail which donated a $1 to the local women's center. Tasty cocktail! As soon as dinner opened, we ordered steaks, they were good, but for the price it would have been better to offer a grass-fed selection. We ordered from a very limited wine menu, $105 for a Pinot Noir. It too was good, but would have been appreciated to offer a bit more selection (like a Cabernet!) It was very convenient to dine here and attend the theater show, and we will definitely do it again.
I was truly shocked at how rude the host was to us, she refused to answer our questions and took a condescending air, even turning her back to the crowd of waiting patrons. I was so disappointed, having chosen the location before attending a performance next door at the ace. The service soured any taste the food might’ve had, unfortunately. Lovely decor but overall I left feeling mocked and unwelcome.
