Hip and fun Rooftop bar for a drink: service was average but ambience was fab! It only got better as we made our way downstairs for a fun and delicious dinner! Service was great and ambience was fun. We then enjoyed show at ace hotel. We will return to all three venues, which to me is the telltale sign of a great place!
The most beautiful Cobb Salad I have ever seen. Almost to pretty to eat, but also delicious.. A treat for the senses. Fabulous cocktails for the bonus.
There on New Year's Day, so perhaps they were understaffed, but service, though well intentioned, was slow and intermittent. Went for their burger, as had seen it on a best of LA list. It was OK, not great. Other items were similar. Sat at the bar for a drink beforehand, and bartenders were friendly and competent.
There wasn't much on the menu that attracted me. It was mostly meat-and-potatoes-type food (and fish, which I'm allergic to). The portions were huge, however; I ordered two side dishes and one would have been enough. Since the restaurant is in the Ace Hotel I assumed it would be very ornate, but the decor was plain. I took some out-of-town visitors there because we'd read a rave review in the LA Times, but we were all disappointed. I won't go back.
My husband ordered the pork chop and I ordered the burger. We both really enjoyed our dinner but I have to say...the burger was amazing! We also ordered the lemon cake; it was buttery and delicious. Would definitely come back to dine here again. Highly recommended.
Great environment, awesome service and a good place to see celebrities!
I had an awesome time.....the ambiance and service is excellent!!!
Wonderful brunch. The chimaquilles are fantastic and the bloody Mary's are fantastic
I’m sorry to say we had to leave before our food arrived because it took so long, and we had a show next door to catch. We waited several minutes by the door before we were greeted by anyone. After we were seated, someone came by with water but didn’t indicate that he was our server and didn’t offer to take our order for another 10 minutes. We ordered two salads because by this time we only had 45 minutes until our show, but they didn’t come; meanwhile, a couple who came in 15 minutes after we did ended up being served their meals as we continued to wait for ours. Very disappointing experience. Given that the Theatre next door markets your restaurant as ‘the’ place to dine before a show, it would make sense to ask guests if they’re headed to a show and perhaps recommend items that will come quickly enough. We had a reservation at 7:00 and the show was next door at 8:00 - this should have been plenty of time to order and enjoy some food. Very disappointing experience.
Above and Beyond Service. Great Staff! I have been to Best Girl many times and would recommend to anyone.
This place is very good for brunch. It is a pretty good value and I have been here before. They were out of some things and for some reason marked us as a no show for our reservation with open table, but I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt that maybe it is because they seated us early? Anyway, for food I would recommend them if you are in downtown.
We enjoyed our meal at the Best Girl. We were seated on the Mezzanine which was cozy. The food was excellent and the service was great. We loved the ambiance. It was a great place to eat before going to a show at the Ace Hotel Theater.
Sometimes “vacation coffee” just isn’t as good as the coffee you get at home, but that wasn’t the case here! Breakfast and coffee were delicious.
Really great food in a super loud restaurant. Ears ringing. Server in a bad mood didn’t want to be there but warmed up later.
You will not be disappointed in this Ace Hotel restaurant space's current seafoodish incarnation. Michael Cimarusti is almost too good to fail at whatever space he inhabits. If the place is full, it will be noisy, but if you go on a Sunday, you will converse in relative peace. Service is casually attentive in a good way, and knowledgeably helpful. As I read what I've written, I realize that I sound like a shill because I am not being specific about the food. There was a perfectly seasoned, seafood pasta, which had just enough heat to create a mild forehead sweat, but not enough to obscure the taste of the flavorful sea creatures.
It's good. Just go.
Dinner before attending the theater
Great food and vibes, we had a fantastic dinner - lots of French options: panisse = delish!
Super yummy. Glad we went before seeing Cat Power at the Ace theater.
We made a reservation and arrived on time but were asked to wait as we watched the hostess seat everyone that walked in without a reservation. Service wasn't great but I understand sometimes waiters aren't having a great night. I ordered the baked clams and everything on the plate was lovely except for the actual clams which were foul and tasted like they had gone rancid. My friend ordered the OKONOMIYAK which was incredible! We were really looking forward to eating there before catching our show next door but it was a disappointment. If I hadn't ordered the clams, I would have probably loved the experience, but the memory of that awful flavor is forever seared in my mind.
Nice meal, good service, friendly hostess.
awesome time! took my best friend for her birthday and she absolutely loved it.
If you bring a cake for them to hold, there is a cutting fee, but who the ef cares,; this place is radical.
Great service. Fun place to have dinner. Great drinks. Get the pork chop.
Drinks were a little weak, appetizers we're good, but my burger was sub-par. I asked for medium, got meadium rare. And the only thing on it was chopped onion and a smathering of some kind of dressing. The dressing made the bun soggy and took over the entire taste of the burger. I'll stick with Rounds Burgers from now on....way better value.
Took 45 minutes to get our dinner and drinks. They need to hire additional staff on concert nights. Food was ok and not worth the price for 2 burgers with fries, a glass of wine, a ginger ale and two waters.
The restaurant was not prepared to handle the pre-theater diners and they are connected to the theater. They were completely overwhelmed and the server seemed to be doing everything except taking our order and making sure we got our food in time.
My partner and I came in on a Sunday morning. There were two open tables outside on the patio and more than half of the tables inside were free. We walked up around 10:35. The lady named Ann-Marie at the front who was overseeing the iPad was one of the most unpleasant hostess I have ever met. We asked for a table for 2, she said no can do, we are too busy, you should have made a reservation. I asked if we could sit in one of the empty tables outside. She said no, I can't seat you unless you have a reservation. Ok. We'd be happy to make a reservation then. The earliest table she had was 12PM. We made it and went to the coffee bar. As we waited for our coffee I overhear her ask two other couples if they had a reservation, both answered no and she seated them. I'm not sure if it was our relaxed Sunday attire or what but we were very surprised. I go onto OpenTable and make a reservation for 11AM with no problem.
At 11AM I walk up and said we made another reservation at 11AM and show her the confirmation email. She said I'm sorry, I don't see that on my iPad so I can't seat you. She then says please hold on, then seats another table. When she comes back she still has this sour look on her face and refuses to seat us because it hasn't showed up on her iPad. We almost left because we just did not understand her reason for being so rude. But she comes back and says I guess I can seat you now, another party is late.
The food is decent but Ann-Marie made us very uncomfortable. We won't be coming back while she works there.
Very romantic and very beautiful restaurant. The burger I had was cook perfectly and its was delicious. Great cocktails and beers selection
Great ,quick service the night of Halloween. The burger was tasty, moist. Great cocktails too!
Food was good, but somewhat pricy. Noise was horrible. Service was good.
Pros: Good wine. Good food. Good service. Good music. Valet parking for dinner and a show. Easy walking to local shops.
Con: Seating is close to your neighbor.
Tucktaway in the heart of downtown Los Angeles in the Ace Hotel, best girl was nothing short of amazing. From the moment we walked in the door greeted by lovely hostess who took us to a table that we didn’t care for so she suggested another one which was fine. It was a special lobster dinner prepared by the head chef with a fixed price. I highly recommend getting on their email blast as they have great specials like this all the time.
it was fine. food was largely great, service was on the slow side but friendly
It was a very fun, historic place to dine before the show at The Ace Theater. Really interesting building and location. Great for people watching. Food just ok, though salad was delicious as were the baked clams. Shrimp and crab cake just so-so. Would definitely go there again.
Hostess was not concerned about where we wanted to sit even though they had many open tables.
We had made reservations 4 weeks prior!
Though the menu may be a bit limited, everything we tried was throughly enjoyed. Perfect place for a bite before an event at the Ace Hotel.
Have been here 3 times before shows, food is always good. Our server last Sat night, Maria, was excellent!
I looked up this place because I was seeing a show at the Ace Theater. Looked cute, food seemed reasonable, so I was definitely expecting more. Reservations were easy to get but they were very busy. The space is small so it’s impressive they’re able to serve so many in such a confined space. I asked for standard seating and was hoping to sit inside but there was no room. I was sat outside and between the cigarette smoke flowing from the streets and the 2 homeless men hounding us for money, it was quiet uncomfortable. Speaking of uncomfortable, let’s talk about the “host” rather the guard dog that was working there. I have never been so uncomfortable around anyone as I have with this kid who was working at the front. He walked out a few times to scold a few diners, walked around to make sure the people eating there were being proper little children but seemed to run a tight ship. Either way, I was uncomfortable AF! I didn’t know if he was going to help me or curse me. Food, it’s just ok. I ordered the hanger steak. Good, cooked how I asked but parts of the steak were extremely salty. I ordered the roasted carrots and expected a larger tray of good roasted carrots and chick peas roasted and seasoned as well. No! It was about 5 small baby carrots, hummus, a few chick peas mixed in and some fennel tossed around it. Not a good side/starter option for $14. BTU burger was very good and cooked well. Ordered an old fashioned and it was very weak. I’m not sure they know how to make it or if the bartender was doing his own thing. Overall, it’s ok. Nothing to brag about or even recommend. But it’s convenient if you’re seeing a show and we saved some money on Valet!
I had the burger which was so thin I had to open the bun to corroborate it was actually there. It was like eating bread with a very salty sauce, and nothing else. The cocktail I ordered with my food order came by the time I finished the burger.
I have never had a bad meal here. Most times everything has gone smoothly. Unfortunately on Sunday, we had poor service. We told our server we had a 7 p.m. event at The Theater at The Ace Hotel. We ordered dessert at 6:12 p.m. and she said it would be right out. A half-hour later we had no dessert. I tried to get the check, and, finally, the manager came over, and kindly removed the two desserts from our bill, gave us a 25 percent discount and explained that the pastry chef had just started that day and that the pastry chef was not prepared for the kind of crowd / flow that Best Girl gets. I would return, but I wish our server had been honest with us. It took the manager to do that.
It was great. Our waiter went on break or the bathroom or something towards the end when we needed to go to a show (it was weird and they forgot our dessert in the time she was missing), but food was good and we will definitely go back. Hopefully not during the servers break time .
