Best Girl - Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles
Specials
The service was mediocre. We had a waiter that thought he was to good for his job. Stopped waiting on us and turned us over to his colleague, my bother- in-law ordered the hanger steak and he sent it back cause it was not cooked correctly and cold.
Enjoyed my dinner at Best Girl for the most part, but there are better dining options downtown at this price point. The food is pretty good, the environment is nice if a bit loud, but I found the help oddly belligerent.
Valentine’s Day
Pretty terrible service. Had 3 different people approach my table. One took my drink and appetizer order and then she disappeared. Someone else came and took my entree order and second drink. Never saw him again. Then a third person came while I was still eating and told me he was leaving and could I close my check with him so he could go home , but told me I could start a new tab if I wanted anything else. Was he my server all along? I’ll never know.
No issues with food or ambiance.
I won’t be back.
I was a bit underwhelmed in terms of the food. I had ordered the “Steak and eggs” plate which is over $20 and received 3 1/2 slices of what I would consider 1/3 of an actual steak with two unseasoned eggs and breakfast potatoes. Definitely not worth the price whatsoever. Especially with all of the variety available for a “Sunday Brunch”, there should be no excuse to serve mediocre food, let alone pathetic portions. However, our saving grace was our server who was out of this world. She was awesome
Perfect for a light meal before a screening at the beautiful Ace theater. Enjoyed a "Maggie", a tasty Mezcal cocktail. The crab cakes and salad were excellent, our cod lacked flavor. Great service and hip ambiance.
Adorable boutique style, hip urban, connected directly to Ace Hotel and Vintage Ace Hotel Theater. We had 6p Open Table reservation, arrived at 6:10 (after a stressful fight with a parking meter that we couldn't read and wouldn't take our card), but table wasn't ready. Receptionist didn't take our name but said it would be just a few minutes. We sat in the foyer for 10 as new guests arrived, some seated, some waiting, until we asserted ourselves at the front of the line again. Then she asked our name and reservation time (?) and said it would be another few minute. We were probably seated at 6:20. But our server was excellent and friendly, drinks and dinner arrived in a reasonable amount of time, we were checked in on several times. The burger and fries were fantastic, as was the very unusual cocktail (forgot name). Prices were a little high for caliber of food, but we don't eat DTLA very often so perhaps we're just not accustomed. Loved our experience and food, once we got past the door.
The food was terrible although our server was great. It’s so sad to hear one of the reason why I came here bec it’s one of Chef Michael Cimarusti’s restaurant. I felt like I was eating microwave pasta. The gnocchi and rigatoni was terrible! Shame on you Chef Michael and I love Providence!
Really amazing food, and the service was perfect- they weren't there too often, but were there right when you needed something. They even reminded us how many minutes we'd need before we had to leave to our show next door. Plus, the roasted chicken was to DIE for!!
Best Girl is definitely a good part of the reason attending shows in the Ace theater is so attractive.
cocktail and food were amazing! as was our attentive and friendly server. we were attending a show at the theatre next door, and it was all so convenient. i would go back any time. thank you best girl!
The service was excellent and the food was wonderful. I would gladly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the downtown LA area.
A very cool spot to just grab a quick bite. Easy parking a plus
We really enjoyed our dinner here when we attended the Kris Kristofferson show next door. The only cons are that the restaurant is very noisy and many of the ‘tables’ are tiny drum-type setups where the space is tiny and the seats are hunched over and uncomfortable.
On the plus side, the food is very good. We shared a crab cake and cheeseburger and both were delicious, as was our wine.
I have eaten at Best Girl on several occasions, because of its proximity to the Ace Hotel Theater (which is a wonderful venue). Despite giving Best Girl fairly low stars, the joint has enough going for it that I do like the place.
Specifics... The drinks are good but predictably pricey, and the food varies from wonderful (the crab cakes, the oysters and the calamari) to very good but not spectacular (the chicken) to pretty good (the mixed seafood pasta). Given the high prices, "pretty good" really isn't good enough. (A meal for two, with a two additional friends joining us for drinks, came to $240 plus tip.) That said, the place has a hip look and feel, and the overall experience is good, as along as you don't mind the noisiness and the cramped tables. This may sound like damning with faint damnation, but I recommend the place, and will certainly eat there again, the next time the venue beckons.
The upstairs seats are nice. We loved the burger and the steak! Great for a pre-concert dinner!
The staff were all really friendly and seated us early in the loft, and the food was INCREDIBLE! Plus they rushed us our check at the end so we could get into early seating at the theater! Definitely worth getting through the LA traffic.
Frankly, the food was just terrible. Expensive for terrible. Love the Ace Hotel. Would never eat in the restaurant again.
Food is amazing
Hip and fun Rooftop bar for a drink: service was average but ambience was fab! It only got better as we made our way downstairs for a fun and delicious dinner! Service was great and ambience was fun. We then enjoyed show at ace hotel. We will return to all three venues, which to me is the telltale sign of a great place!
The most beautiful Cobb Salad I have ever seen. Almost to pretty to eat, but also delicious.. A treat for the senses. Fabulous cocktails for the bonus.
There on New Year's Day, so perhaps they were understaffed, but service, though well intentioned, was slow and intermittent. Went for their burger, as had seen it on a best of LA list. It was OK, not great. Other items were similar. Sat at the bar for a drink beforehand, and bartenders were friendly and competent.
There wasn't much on the menu that attracted me. It was mostly meat-and-potatoes-type food (and fish, which I'm allergic to). The portions were huge, however; I ordered two side dishes and one would have been enough. Since the restaurant is in the Ace Hotel I assumed it would be very ornate, but the decor was plain. I took some out-of-town visitors there because we'd read a rave review in the LA Times, but we were all disappointed. I won't go back.
My husband ordered the pork chop and I ordered the burger. We both really enjoyed our dinner but I have to say...the burger was amazing! We also ordered the lemon cake; it was buttery and delicious. Would definitely come back to dine here again. Highly recommended.
Great environment, awesome service and a good place to see celebrities!
I had an awesome time.....the ambiance and service is excellent!!!
Wonderful brunch. The chimaquilles are fantastic and the bloody Mary's are fantastic
I’m sorry to say we had to leave before our food arrived because it took so long, and we had a show next door to catch. We waited several minutes by the door before we were greeted by anyone. After we were seated, someone came by with water but didn’t indicate that he was our server and didn’t offer to take our order for another 10 minutes. We ordered two salads because by this time we only had 45 minutes until our show, but they didn’t come; meanwhile, a couple who came in 15 minutes after we did ended up being served their meals as we continued to wait for ours. Very disappointing experience. Given that the Theatre next door markets your restaurant as ‘the’ place to dine before a show, it would make sense to ask guests if they’re headed to a show and perhaps recommend items that will come quickly enough. We had a reservation at 7:00 and the show was next door at 8:00 - this should have been plenty of time to order and enjoy some food. Very disappointing experience.
Above and Beyond Service. Great Staff! I have been to Best Girl many times and would recommend to anyone.
This place is very good for brunch. It is a pretty good value and I have been here before. They were out of some things and for some reason marked us as a no show for our reservation with open table, but I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt that maybe it is because they seated us early? Anyway, for food I would recommend them if you are in downtown.
We enjoyed our meal at the Best Girl. We were seated on the Mezzanine which was cozy. The food was excellent and the service was great. We loved the ambiance. It was a great place to eat before going to a show at the Ace Hotel Theater.
Sometimes “vacation coffee” just isn’t as good as the coffee you get at home, but that wasn’t the case here! Breakfast and coffee were delicious.
Really great food in a super loud restaurant. Ears ringing. Server in a bad mood didn’t want to be there but warmed up later.
You will not be disappointed in this Ace Hotel restaurant space's current seafoodish incarnation. Michael Cimarusti is almost too good to fail at whatever space he inhabits. If the place is full, it will be noisy, but if you go on a Sunday, you will converse in relative peace. Service is casually attentive in a good way, and knowledgeably helpful. As I read what I've written, I realize that I sound like a shill because I am not being specific about the food. There was a perfectly seasoned, seafood pasta, which had just enough heat to create a mild forehead sweat, but not enough to obscure the taste of the flavorful sea creatures.
It's good. Just go.
Dinner before attending the theater
Great food and vibes, we had a fantastic dinner - lots of French options: panisse = delish!
Super yummy. Glad we went before seeing Cat Power at the Ace theater.
We made a reservation and arrived on time but were asked to wait as we watched the hostess seat everyone that walked in without a reservation. Service wasn't great but I understand sometimes waiters aren't having a great night. I ordered the baked clams and everything on the plate was lovely except for the actual clams which were foul and tasted like they had gone rancid. My friend ordered the OKONOMIYAK which was incredible! We were really looking forward to eating there before catching our show next door but it was a disappointment. If I hadn't ordered the clams, I would have probably loved the experience, but the memory of that awful flavor is forever seared in my mind.
Nice meal, good service, friendly hostess.
awesome time! took my best friend for her birthday and she absolutely loved it.
If you bring a cake for them to hold, there is a cutting fee, but who the ef cares,; this place is radical.
