This was my second visit and I was not disappointed. BESA is fabulous. I have nothing negative to say about this spot. Both times I have had the chance to dine here I was surprised that there was not a line out the door - this is perhaps one of the only well kept secrets left in a city of constant newness right now.
The staff is remarkably friendly and low key. It may look like a stuffy, highfalutin fine-dining place but the staff brings everything right down to earth. Everyone is welcoming and well informed and enthusiastic - these are impressive feats in the current employment crisis.
The menu is small and I have tried perhaps half of it - not a bad bite on it. Ask the staff for recommendations if you're stuck. Try a bunch of starters if you cannot decide. Even the table bread is fabulous and I tend to avoid filling up on that stuff.
Last night we had the lamb and hummus app (a Must) to share. I had the Lamb Heart Ragu and my date had the Sable Fish. It was tough to choose which was the better of the two. Very different entrees and both were rich, complex, and super tasty.
I have also had the Eggplant toast, Arugula Salad, Citrus Salad, and Seared Cheese. Honestly, still not a bad bite.
Cocktails were great. Last visit we relied on the bartender to make wine suggestions and he was spot on with some fabulous pics. Don't be shy, lean on the experts to make your visit even better.
It is a little more formal and outside the now-typical hipster aesthetic of loud, communal tables and raw-edged wood everything. Folks were in jeans but suits and dresses were definitely more the norm. Being on the corner of Woodward with a full bank of floor-to-ceiling windows is ideal for a romantic date night. The city and people watching views are excellent.

Everything about Besa was just as we remembered, with one exception. Like many restaurants, they have introduced the iPad for listing wines and menu items. Unfortunately, even they admitted that not all of them were working properly. This is frustrating for guests. And although they had an extensive bar, they didn’t have Blantons bourbon or Absolut vodka. The food and service however was great. I recommend the prawns. My partner had the filet and both were excellent.

The staff was friendly and accommodating. Sommelier was very knowledgeable, helping us recall a delightful wine selection with very few details. Pulled lamb shoulder was outstanding! Overall enjoyable experience; would return for another visit.

This was our first time at BESA and overall the experience was good. Cara was a great server/bartender. The food was pricey but the Lamb Chops were perfectly cooked with great flavor. The octopus/hummus appetizer was very tasty but very little octopus for a $20 appetizer.

Everything was wonderful. Beautiful ambiance, friendly and knowledgeable and helpful staff. Hostesses accommodated us when we called to say we were running late for our reservation and they got us out in time for our show! The meal was delicious, easy to find gluten free options. My husband loved his filet. Just wish we had enough time to try dessert! Great dining experience.

The ambiance, service, and food were all spectacular. Our waitress Shaun was attentive and very knowledgeable about the food and restaurant. We were given the opportunity to go downstairs to see the wine cellar. We will definitely be back soon. Besa is one of our new downtown favorites!
The branzino was cooked beautifully with a delicate, crisp skin. We tried both the arugula and citrus salads—both were outstanding. They were small but light and delicious. Surprisingly the chicken was fantastic, and the fries are a must try.
Never ever disappointed here! Constantly mouth watering food and top of the line service! Sean is the best waitress and Gerdy the owner is one of the best people out there!
Had an anniversary dinner here with my husband. Heather, our server, was absolutely amazing!! The food and ambiance were just what we needed and we even learned of the extra seating, wine cellar and private dining area downstairs. Thanks for making it a fun night!
