We were celebrating a birthday and our waiter did not bring out any dessert. I was surprised that we didn’t get dessert especially since the reservations were specific to a bday.
Overall, the service and food was good. I would recommend this restaurant.
Ali is the best. He was super attentive and was V friendly. Don’t skip out on dining here.
The space is gorgeous. The food was amazing. The service was incredible. I can’t wait to go baby!!
Food was excellent but waiter didn’t space the dishes - brought 3 of the 5 dishes at the same time.
Had Ron as our waiter! Very knowledgeable and made the dinning Experience that much better. Food was outstanding. Can’t wait to come back.
First time, won't be last. Loved the decor, geat location.
The food was terrific and the service was as well!
the atmosphere and drinks were great, although i was very disappointed when it came down to the food. Presentation was very nice but when we placed our order (party of 4) my husband and his friend ordered two steaks( $28 ea.) after the waiter took our order of oysters and a few appetizers he came back out to notify the fellas that they had ran out of that steak they had requested originally so they went forward with the alternative options and ordered the Yugo steak instead ($60). The stakes were way under-cooked and not worth the almost triple the price, my friend ordered the Service and was not pleased with it also..the oysters were good but i have def had better, i hate to admit that dinner was roughly 450 dollars for 4 pple and being that we have all been waiters/waitresses in the past we dint want to cause a scene or send back the food.. so my husband and his friend simply dint eat more then a few bites just called it a night. We heard good rivews form our other friends who had visited Besa prior to us and being that we are Albanian were always cheering for one of our own to be successful...it could have been an off night for the place and i hope that was exactly the case but it would have to take some begging for me to return there for dinner...dirty martinis were great tho. i think every place is worth a try and that every chef has a gift so take my review as you please but still try things for your self always
Dinner last night @ BESA was a wonderful all-around experience. The atmosphere was fun, the service was fantastic & the food was delicious. We will definitely go back!
A great dinner! Our server, Ali was very energetic and knowledgeable. He was passionate about the menu and his explantation of each item was spot on. We started with the crispy brussel sprouts and tuna appies, which were really tasty. Next we had the trout, sea scallops, and southern fried chicken breast. All had great flavor and were presented artistically on unique ceramic plates that added to the colorful presentation. Portion sizes were not consistent- the trout was a large portion but the chicken was a small breast and the scallops dish had only two halved scallops on the plate which was more appropriate in size for an appetizer rather than a meal. We had the object orange- brown butter ice cream with caramel brittle and orange custard and the milk chocolate ganache with he dark chocolate sorbet for dessert - both amazing! The decor was mid-century modern and showed attention to detail. The lower level had a private dining table for 12 and a lounge area that could be booked for private parties. One of the servers told us that the building was designed by Albert Kahn in 1917 and was sold to Guaranty Bank in 1922 until the crash of the stock market in 1933 and restoration began 100 years later in 2017.
Lovely new restaurant that was recommended by a friend for a special occasion. For us, this is the type of place for special occasions. It is higher end where portions is not the rule, but presentation is. We were greeted by very pleasant, very well informed and attentive waiter. He was helpful with dinner recommendations and wine. We ordered the scallop and the steak dishes and were very pleased. They attempt to put a new, unique twist on flavors. Their signature so to speak and it worked well. It’s nice to go to a place that does not do things familiar....boring. All in all, if you are looking special place, special meal for special occasion, I would recommend that you look into BESA
Basic at best. Ambiance was great, the waitor great, the cocktails were great but the food...meh.
Everything was perfect--ambiance, food, wine, service! Will definitely make it a destination again and again
The food and atmosphere was amazing...try the green curry soup.
The food took an agonizing amount of time to come out — for a table of 2, our appetizers came out within 20 minutes, and our main courses came out 90 minutes later.
The lighting was way up, giving it a stark feel.
The food was ok. Brussel sprouts were overcooked but the flavor was great! Our friends both had the trout and reported that it had no flavor at all. I ordered the halibut, which they didn’t have anymore and said they needed to update the menu. In it’s place they were serving Cod. It was delicious... but the menu said 32$ for Halibut, which is understandable... 32$ for Cod is over priced, which is what we were charged. And the piece of Cod was much smaller than the size of my palm. But the flavor was great!
Butter salads were delicious. Wine was great, we had a bottle, but they didn’t have enough glasses ready to be used. And as soon as i finished my glass if wine, it was wisked away to the kitchen to be washed for someone else, before I could even get a second glass in. The tuna appetizer was so tiny and placed on a ginormous plate, made it look even smaller than it was already. Bottom line: Hit or miss, some good flavors but needs work. Definitely not restaurant of the year quality.
We loved BESA. The place is beautiful the service above outstanding. The prices are $$$$ and a more mainstream option for dinner would be nice. Loved our experience loved our service the food was great. It was what was advertised
The service and atmosphere were impeccable, but the food was boring. Presented And prepared very well, but it lacked any memorable flavor and left us both feeling disappointed for the high cost and small portion sizes. Wine list was solid.
Really interesting menu that was presented with total enthusiasm by the waiter. The food was first class and would satisfy any foodie - the freshness and unique fusion of flavors and textures just makes me want to go back to try out more of the menu. Atmosphere was elegant but relaxed - nice space between you and other diners. Everything was perfect, looking forward to going back again.
This was our second visit to Besa and it was every bit as great as the first. Our server, Bradley, was helpful and attentive in describing the food and helping us to select the perfect items. We almost ordered 1 of everything. Do not miss the Ahi Tuna, Brussels Sprouts, Halibut, Lamb Porchetta and Fried Chicken. For a new restaurant, the operation is flawless. There is no long wait for food, or drinks. This is, by far, the most creative menu of any of the restaurants downtown and it is very well executed. This is one of our favorites.
We were very excited to dine at BESA. We were disappointed with the ravioli and eggplant. Additionally, the waitress was highly attentive, but was really pressuring an up sell which was uncomfortable.
Outstanding food. New/creative cooking. Very attentive service. Not enough quality wines in medium prices ($50-70). Quality justifies NYC prices ($100/person incl wine).
We absolutely loved our experience at BESA! The food was amazing and the environment was perfect, not too loud and decorated very nicely!
Outstanding service and quality! Very impressed. Will definitely be back
In a city where new restaurants are opening at an astonishing rate, BESA is one of the few that is built to last. Brilliant food only outshined by truly exceptional service in a truly stunning space. Get a reservation while you can!
An outstanding dinner on Christmas Eve. Strong recommendation for Brussels sprout appetizer which was very large and the scallops entree which was fantastic. Cocktails and dessert also excellent. Really unforgettable.
Great service, location and ambiance but the food needs some more work. Felt like they were trying too hard. Needs more time to work all of the kinks out. Will try again.
The service was outstanding, and the food was interesting and delicious. We’ll definitely be back!
It was ok, definitely a restaurant that just opened and doesn’t have their rhythm yet . Food was over cooked
My new favorite restaurant in Detroit. The Amish chicken was wonderful. The taste of halibut that I had was wonderful. The duck pate in a doughnut was the best I’ve ever had. The butter lettuce salad was huge and very tasty. Probably could share the salad if you’re going to have an appetizer, too. Very nice wine selection. The handcrafted cocktails were outstanding. The orange dessert we had was incredible. My only complaint is the restaurant is a little loud but you’re still able to carry on a conversation.
Excellent service and food. This is a great upscale date spot.
Great place to grab a drink. The food was hit and missing between the starters and entrees.
Great atmosphere , great design . However , food is not the best. It is very average, except probably a very few things like coconut soup and beet salad.
Not impressed with oysters (not fresh ) and meat
Delicious food, impeccable service. A real pleasure and I can't wait to go back.
Great service friendly staff made us feel extremely welcome and made our anniversary dinner very special
Amazing food, great service, great atmosphere. Bring a full wallet, though.
We went to Besa before an event at Little Ceasers and had such a great experience; we did more of appetizers/sharing and dessert and everything was perfect!
Everything about this meal was exceptional. From the amazing selections on the cheese plate to the delicious recommendation by our server to pair the Brussels sprouts with the “vichyssoise”, to the two tasters of wine that were offered to help us decide on our second bottle, the evening started out spectacularly and went up, and up, and up from there. Service was attentive but not rushed and our server Joseph (ask for him; he was superb!) provided excellent suggestions and the absolute best service we’ve had in quite a while. Entrees were nice size portions, and I highly recommend the duck salad — it was creative, beyond fresh, absolutely delicious, and something I would order again and again. Other highlights of the evening: a visit to our table by the chef, desserts that were as beautiful as they were delicious, a stellar coffee, and an unforgettable tour of the lounge and dining spaces downstairs as we got to sign our two empty wine bottles and leave them on one of the racks to decorate the space. Such a special dining experience — I can’t wait to go back and would definitely recommend it highly!
Amazing restaurant! The food, service, ambiance, and beverage selection were all impeccable.
Beautiful ambiance, food exceptional, service great!
