Our focus is on delivering delicious local Northumbrian produce in a warm and welcoming environment. Our day menu (which operates on a walk-in basis only) is full of local favourites. Whether you are looking for a hearty breakfast, a light lunch or just some delicious coffee and cake we have something for everyone.

Transitioning into our evening bistro service from 5.30pm onwards, we present a refined yet flavourful menu. Our chefs select trusted local suppliers renowned for procuring the finest quality ingredients, which they craft into irresistible dishes for your enjoyment. The best Sunday lunch we have had for a while, really good food and service was excellent. If we had one small comment the starter portions were a bit larger than expected, but were so tasty and we still managed a dessert!!

Food was good, especially the starters. Not a big choice on menu of mains. Lovely restaurant, service as always very good.

Great food, lovely staff and so good to have a lovely place to eat in the evening where our dog is as welcome as we are! Definitely recommend

We attended the Sunday supper club on Mother’s Day evening all tables were occupied so staff were very busy. The food and service were outstanding . The price was spot on for the quality of the food, the wine was good too. The only thing I would change to improve the ambience would be to turn the spot lights off and have candles on the tables. We go to Bertram’s a lot through the day and think the dimmed lighting would help to make the transition from a cafe to an evening bistro. I highly recommend if you are in the area.

Came for Mother’s Day Sunday Roast. One of the best roast beef we have had. Delicious sides and veg, perfectly cooked tender beef. Will be back!

First time dining here, we found the staff very good and helpful. The Chef certainly knows his/her stuff, everything we had was spot on. We had the twice baked souffle, it was really light and just the right amount of crust on the top. For mains I had the deer roe which was again spot on, especially with the rosti and jus.My wife had the Halibut, which she declared was superb. Definitely will return.
