Berryhill's has been a personal favorite of mine for a long time. I'm never disappointed. The food is great.
This was my first time here and as we walked in, I was surprised. It was a Saturday at 7:00pm and the restaurant was empty. What brought us here was the Bacon/Sirloin Burger and so we ordered them and some drinks. Our group got martinis and bloody marys and it was unanimous, they were good but not great. For the price, there are better to be had just a few blocks away. The food, like the drinks was good but not great. Everything was bacon based and very rich. My burger was tasty but the major flavor I got was the cheese... The bacon felt like a side note when it was supposed to be the star. I will try to come back for brunch but I will wait a bit.
I ordered the froed chicken. The food was bland. Really lacked seasoning. The server was actually quite rude. I won't be returning. The only good thing was the bacon cheese dip.
Still one of my favorite places for over 12yrs now.
Berryhill's food is very good and creative but though service is very good, it's SLOW. No dining should take this long. Speed of service is why I quit having lunch here and why I'm reluctant to have dinner here if I have movie plans after.
John Berryhill and his chefs and servers are committed to excellence and personal service!
We were nearly the only diners at 6:30 on a night when all the other restaurants in town were packed. Made us worry. The waiter seemed distracted. The food was excellent, however, and the chef made an appearance at our table to say thanks which was appreciated. The space is beautiful and the ambiance would be top if there were more people to fill out the tables.
Berryhill is a Boise staple that continues to evolve and still offers interesting food and creativity.
We started with Berryhill's meatball appetizer and they were great. I ordered the scallops with "ear" pasta in cilantro sauce and it was fabulous! Everyone ordered something different and we all immensely enjoyed our dinners.....and desert (creme brûlée, and peach pie)!
Hostess was not very professional (chewing gum while talking) and not very friendly. Server didn't know special and slow to serve water. Server grabbed drink by the rim and didn't use a napkin to bring a straw. I had the Three Herb chicken and was very greasy and looked thrown together. Used to be good but not planning on going back.
Always super great food. Fig and feta grilled cheese is super yummy, and a Bacon Stix! ....service was actually better than the last 4 visits.
The menu seems limited compared to previous visits. More bacon bits, less variety.
Chairs were uncomfortably hard and the restaurant only had 2 pillows for the seats. Service took a while drinks sat at the bar waiting to be delivered. Food was cold Grits were pastie and if they were cheesy? Food needed basic season and the fried Chicken was dry.
Good food and service. Drinks are overpriced. Restaurant should have warned us that the Tequila was $32 a glass. This put a dark cloud on the evening. Will probably not return for dinner any time soon.
It was prime time on a Friday evening and Berryhill had an opening so we went there. Service was outstanding - fast and attentive. Had the special of the day and the prawns in a chilli oil. Have had the prawns before but this time the chillies were burnt and dish was overly greasy. The special was just ok. The restaurant was practically empty - disappointing for an end-of-the-month Friday evening. Not sure if we would return.
Exceptional service & food! Every time we have people in town visiting we always bring them in. Chef is always friendly and appreciative. Must go!
As usual, we had a very nice dinner at Berryhill. I had the spinach salad and the lasagna, both of which were very good. My husband had the Mac & Cheese with chicken which was just okay. We were wondering why it got an award as it was nothing special. Our guests both enjoyed their meal choices. The service was great and the prices are reasonable. We will go back but will wait until the weather is warmer so we can sit outside on their patio.
Generally the food is consistently good. Surprisingly, and sadly, it did not live up to expectations.
We have been to Berryhill many times over the years and were so disappointed in the quality of the food that I felt compelled to leave a review. The Scallops were very sandy, the pasta uninspired (kept salting it), the shrimp rubbery and the bread not so fresh. This restaurant has always been one of our "go to's" for a very nice meal and ambiance with casual attire accepted. I know they can do better, but it's hard to improve if you don't know!
We will be back to give Berryhill another whack!
As always, never disappointed when we go to Berryhill. Food is always off the chart good.
Waiter was rude, food was bland..atmosphere was alright..
Service was great. Food not even close to great. Fried chicken was over cooked and tasteless. Grits had very little flavor. Lasagna was good, but over cooked. We watched the supervising chef...he had very little oversite. He just stood outside the kitchen and wandered around. The wines cost 3 times as much as they do at co-op. For the prices, the food should be much better.
Over all we had a nice meal. I ordered the King Salmon. The salmon was delicious, but it was served on a large amount of risotto, then covered with corn. I don't like to eat that much starch and would of preferred a nice light sauce over the top instead of the corn. The Berryhill salad was good but way too much Balsamic vinegar. My husband had a beef medallion dish. It was very good. We both ordered dirty martinis and they came really dirty. It tasted like we were drinking olive juice, so we asked for another shot of vodka which they gave us on the house and that made it taste much better. We are from out of town, but would suggest this restaurant.
I could tell scallops were frozen but that's expected as we live in Idaho.
Nice atmosphere and facilities, but the food was just so-so. Had salmon which was not very fresh. Appetizer assortment was good, grilled shrimp were particularly good. Hostess and wait staff were very attentive. Menu has kind of a Louisiana/Southern slant which would have been cool if the quality of the entrees was better.
I was disappointed with the main dish Etouffee. The rest of the meal was very good. Drinks where very good. Our waitress was awesome! I will try them at another time and different main dish. I believe not every thing can always a home run for everyone on a menu, but this restaurant deserve a second chance due to staff and chefs!
Nice presentation, great tasting food. Good selection between the apps, salads/soups and main courses. We were a bit disappointed with the table they sat us at. we asked if we could switch - both tables on either side of us were empty for our whole meal - but they said they were booked up which they weren't. service was prompt but a little lacking on the knowledge of the menu.
We had a wonderful 25th Anniversary. Our server was vert attentive but yet allowed us to have our celebration. The menu was wonderful and Alan made it special by make a special dessert. We defiantly will return for breakfast and happy hour. Thank you for wonderful evening.
We got sat in quite possibly the worst table there was. Right next to the front door. We asked for a different table and were told nothing was available although there were about 10-12 open tables. I came here looking for a good Valentine's Day dinner with the wife and the ambiance given to us just sucked. We left and found another restaurant that was more accommodating.
I had the 3 herb chicken!!!! it was absolutely amazing!!!! Nearly everything was amazing!! The only suggestion I have is more comfy seats. The hard wood chairs were painful.
Love the food here especially the bacon sticks. However my last three visits the service has been terrible. I'm not sure what's happening I know there's been some changes. They bring me back with their food every time. Wish the service was better
Just moved to Boise and was my first time to Berryhill and if it had been peak hours, felt like I could have been sitting at a resto in NYC. (Great location) It is clearly hard to choose wrong with every menu item having been loved on by bacon. Discovered delicious Meiomi Pinot Noir and decadent bacon scones. (Great menu) Cecily took fantastic care of us; she has a keen sense of when to interject herself. She has a great sense of humor and skill with conversation. (Notable staff) Warm lighting and plenty of windows let me know that Spring at Berryhill will be beautiful inside as well as on the patio. Music choices were just fun and cool enough-not too distracting; played a bit of jazz while we were there and at a great volume to enjoy our conversation (Great atmosphere). Bonus was the takeaway pie! Berryhill has all the hallmarks of a resto that I would bring out of town guests to. Thank you for a fantastic experience.
The staff was wonderful. We felt special and every need was met with courtesy and warmth.
We like the Southern twist to things.
My son and I both had steak - and both dishes were excellently prepared!
Disappointing dining experience. I had only been there before for brunch which is good. Dinner was an entirely different experience. My friend asked to sub a chix breast for the burger and the chef refused. I myself struggled to find anything on the menu as the entire menu is comfort food at best which was not entirely appealing as we were headed off to a show and I didn't care to sit there with a full and heavy stomach. I settled on the chicken pot pie. My salad got delivered and then 20 minutes later I was informed they sold out of pot pies. I asked for a suggestion as to what could be prepared quickly given we were under a time constraint. I took the suggestion of etouffe only to indeed wait another 20 minutes for our food to be delivered. Having lived in Atlanta for 8 years I would not classify this food as southern. I would rather describe it as comfort food with an emphasis on incorporating bacon into as many menu items as possible. Case in point, my etoufee had the tiniest shrimp and scallops I'd ever seen with two pork medallions wrapped in bacon along with them. Odd and not what I'd expect in this dish. The inclusion of fried okra made it no better and the wild rice was disappointing. With so few restaurant options in Boise, it's disappointing to have to exclude one from the list of options but we will not be back.
We had a delicious New Year's Eve meal at Berryhill. The catfish was top notch! Berry hill is a great go-to for a quiet, but delicious downtown meal. While the prices are a bit on the high end, the quality of food is good. The ambiance of the restaurant is a welcome change from other louder, busier restaurants downtown. Overall a great experience.
Nice atmosphere, not noisy and good food. not pricey.
What a pleasant dinner in relaxed, comfortable setting. Food was better than ever. Salmon with corn salsa and grits was great.
This is a great atmosphere great food, great music, very nice and elegant highly recommend
One of our favorites in Boise. Love the tenderloin!
