Bernie's Restaurant & Bar - Manayunk
Great!! Love Bernie’s!!!
Brought out of town friends here today for brunch. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! Pieces of the meal were brought out every few minutes on a million little plates. I waited 25 minutes for two pancakes that seemed as if they would never arrive so I cancelled them. By this time both of my friends were done their meals.
They also gave me burnt potatoes that I had to refuse as well. Never had a more terrible experience at a restaurant. The best part was the coffee but oh yeah they ran out of half and half so they made a mixture of coconut milk and oat milk. Good thing I wasn’t allergic. Trust the reviews! I didn’t and look what
We got charged 4$ for ice… our waiter was nice but forgot a lot of things and food was ok. Awesome atmosphere just needs to brush up on overall service
This is our second time dinning at this location and once again We we’re underwhelmed. The first time outdoor and indoor seating seem fully booked, so we let it go when one of party’s order came out late and cold. However our server and the manager were apologetic and kind. We chalk that experience up to sometimes crap happens.
We returned this pass Sunday for a 10:30 brunch reservation. This time the restaurant was less crowded and weren’t too far from the kitchen. My friend ordered coffee, the blueberry pancakes and bacon. I order tea, 1 blueberry pancake and a side of potatoes and bacon.
When our food finally came out my friends pancakes where lukewarm. My 1 pancake was cold, the potatoes were lukewarm.
My friend tried to eat her pancakes. I ate my potatoes and bacon, because I was hungry. I told our server that my pancake was cold, she offered to bring me another one, but I declined. She apologized but never checked on us again until we asked for the check. Eventually the manager came to our table and apologized, saying she forgot to turn on the warming light, as we had already paid our bill she couldn’t comp us but she also didn’t offer a gift certificate to make it up to us.
We were disappointed and we will not be dinning at this location again. We’ve dined at the Jenkintown location many times and always had a wonderful experience from the service to the food and drinks.
Food came out in the installment plan: eggs, muffin and bacon arrived separately on three different plates. There was no bread for toast; specified dry toasted muffin and it arrived buttered, barely toasted. I do not blame the wait staff and I know restaurants are having trouble with help but there needs to be communicated and training between them and the kitchen.
My wife and I went for breakfast/brunch and my wife always gets the pancakes and when the hostess sat us she never informed us that their griddle wasn’t working that is used to cook pancakes and French toast. The waitress let us order drinks and then bought are drinks back and then told us the griddle was broken. I feel both the hostess or waiter should have let us know this upfront. We did not stay we left and went else where.
Food and drinks were great! The pancakes are delicious!
I really want to love this place. The restaurant has a great vibe and a killer menu but the service really isn't great. I went here for my birthday dinner and the server started by telling us the long list of everything they were out of on the menu which ended up being at least half of the cocktail list. It took over 30 minutes for our cocktails to come, way after our appetizers arrived. That being said the food was good when it did come. Would definitely recommend the thai curry mussels -- they were unique and delicious! Might be a good spot when you're not in a rush and don't really care about service.
In a nearly empty restaurant with ample staff, it was difficult to have the waitress come to the table. About a half hour waiting for drinks and an additional half hour waiting for beverage menus, the brunch turned into a more serve yourself experience trying to track down anyone who would wait on the table.
This was quite literally the worst service I've ever experienced. I had an 8:00 birthday reservation with two of my friends. We arrived at 7:55 and were sat in the back room away from everyone. We weren't given water or even greeted until 8:25. Multiple people walked right by us and we were finally able to wave someone down to then be told "I don't know where your server is, did you want to order drinks or something?" 15 minutes after that we received our drinks from the hostess who also said she didn't know where our server was. She then took our order and advised the live music wasn't happening and that the two meals we wanted they didn't have. I then asked where our server was and suddenly she said it was her.
We didn't receive our food until well after 9:00 even though the restaurant was not busy. Luckily the food was great because the first hour of being blatantly ignored and the confusion with who our server even was was terrible.
First and last time going.
Music is too loud for brunch. Coffee wasn’t changed before brewing, making the coffee taste like water with a hint of coffee. The food, as much as it is understandable that the wait was over one hour, didn’t come all together.
I wish they don’t overbook the restaurant when they are understaffed. I am pretty sure it is stressful to the staff, but a very unpleasant experience as a consumer. The place was very packed and chaotic.
We walked into the restaurant and it reeked of fish. When seated at our table it was so wobbly our drinks nearly fell over. The first 2 beers we ordered were not available…they were seasonal so understandable but it was all down hill from there. We tried to order a Buffalo chicken wrap but were told they were all out of chicken. We then tried to order Buffalo cauliflower and were told “oh we’re definitely out of that too”. I decided to move onto a pizza with a side of onion rings but they were out of onion rings as well! We were then told if we wanted to order from the sandwich section they’d have to substitute the roll for a wrap so I guess they were out of bread too! We told them we were just going to finish our third choice drinks and leave and the waiter was completely shocked! I felt like we were being punked. I’ll never dine here again.
Our server was new and willing to help but was obviously very green.
Several things were unavailable on the menu.
We ordered apps and entrees. All the food was brought at the same time. The tuna nachos sounded amazing but there was maybe 6 bite size pieces on the entire dish, the French onion soup was lukewarm, the tuna on the ahi tuna and risotto dish was over cooked, both salads came without dressing. When we asked the server to bring the dressing for them, he informed us that they didn’t have the dressing for either salad we ordered. He never brought a replacement and tried to charge for both.
I wanted to like this place and the menu sounded really good but food, service and noise level made our experience less then desirable. We left hungry and unfortunately won’t be back.
One waitress for the whole radiant
Brunch was delicious. Unfortunately, it took almost an hour to get our food. The waitresses were working very hard! But were very much understaffed and overworked. Great food but needs more staff
Excellent brunch outside, they were busy but there service was still great.
Hair in the food! Extremely loud music. Poor service from upon arrival. This was a very different experience compared to the last time we’d been there. I doubt we’ll go back.
Good food, nice location. Great place for brunch with friends
Not sure why you are allowed to make a 2:45 reservation when the kitchen closes at 3pm. I felt like I was being rushed a little at that point. Besides that, I would def go back again
I loveeeee this place!!!! The food is always great and the vibe was on point
Everything about Bernies lacked any sense of urgency or care for quality and customer experience. They were out of 2 cocktails I ordered, iced tea, and the entire pizza section…all of which we were noticed about post ordering. Food for my husband and I (a salad, wings and a crab cake sandwich) took over 45 minutes. When I received the salad ingredients were brown on top. When I sent the salad back the staff didn’t even apologize or seem to care that it was ever served. It was taken off my check and I understand if you are short staffed, but it was really the lack of care that put me over the edge.
Birthday celebration and noted in reservation but was not mentioned by the staff.
Otherwise a delicious meal and good service. Happy to support local business with covid19 restrictions and the recent flooding
My eggs bernies was good. My wife’s chicken sandwich was not. It’s a very nice looking establishment.
Great food, amazing service. Will definitely go back!
The food and drinks were okay. Unfortunately the service was a let down. Food came out before the drinks and our server never checked on us. We were then handed the check before close to finishing and felt rushed out. For the price the service should have been much better!
Went to brunch with my girls and we all enjoyed ourselves, service was great .looking forward to going back.
Food was pretty good but the service was awful. Our waitress never came to check on us once. We would’ve ordered a few more drinks if our waitress had come back at all. I had to get up and look for someone to ask for my check
Great time there the food is always 👍
The food was amazing and so was the atmosphere. It was my first time and I will be returning for brunch again Sunday.
It was great
Food and the customer service were both phenomenal!
Great service thx guys👍
Nice experience, our server was so friendly and personable. My Korean bowl was ok, something about the dressing was off, but my bf really liked his crab cake Sammie. Parmesan fries were excellent.
Just all very meh. Over cooked muscles. Dried out burger. Nothing special. Not worth a special trip.
Great service, good food selection and quality, and the atmosphere is very relaxed.
Awesome place good drinks and food I love it there
Spectacular food (I tried 3 difference dishes). Fun atmosphere. Young crowd. Great location. Will be returning soon
There were flies and fruit flies interrupting our experience and the food was just basic.
The service was great and we had a very sweet waitress. However they ran out of a lot things on the menu and it was brunch so there already wasn’t a ton of options to begin with. After placing my order I was told my French toast was no longer available but luckily the substitute which was the chicken sandwich was amazing. Probably wouldn’t dine at this location again I prefer the Glenside one
It was our first time trying out Bernies and we were excited to snag a brunch reservation day of! The atmosphere was sunny, open and contemporary. I loved all the nooks and crannies of this establishment! Unfortunately, the "smoked" salmon option (my brunch choice) was a gooey paste (like a tuna salad but gummier), and I could barely finish one bite. The waitress noticed the full plate at the end of our meal and asked, "You didn't like it?" I said "No, I thought it was going to be smoked salmon" and she just walked away with a shrug. We also purchased a lemon - ricotta pancake, omelette and an alcoholic beverage. My partner enjoyed the omelette and I loved the drink, the pancake was so-so. On a side note, the bathrooms were absolutely filthy - there was built up dirt, unclean toilets, and overall it felt grimy :( Unfortunately, our first experience will probably be our last.
