Fun entertainment with the dancers and participatin
Very nice place with delicious food. It can get extremely noisy so be prepared. We didn’t want to pay the $15 cover for flamingo dance/music so opted to be sat in the back room. Even with the doors closed it was extremely loud. During the breaks loud dance music was piped in but they turned off our speaker and we could converse a bit. Server was helpful, if not a bit pushy. All in all great food in a very noisy location.
This place was amazing in every aspect. I think it's incredibly underrated and was sad to see it wasn't jam packed on a Friday night, since it hit the mark in terms of service, ambiance, food, drinks, and value. It would be incredibly sad to see this place not take off. I'm telling all of my friends to go here! It took me straight back to Morocco with an incredibly approachable, fun, and innovative menu. 10/10 will go again!
This was our first time dining at Berber. We were attracted to the interior design while strolling by weeks before (I'm an architect). It is was fresh and modern, with lots of daylight at this time of year. We rarely eat before 9:00, but expecting a Friday crowd we made a 6:30 reservation. In the 90 minutes we were there, only 4-5 tables were occupied in the main dining room (out of about 30). There were several patrons in the adjacent bar area, but the whole time it was the quietest restaurant we've been to in years. The background music was the loudest element, but was enjoyable. There was a fairly steady stream of customers filing into the back supper club, which has live entertainment and a prix fixe menu. Service was very good - but then the main dining room wasn't too busy. Wine by the glass was expensive. The food was well prepared, though I somehow expected it to be a bit more spicy (I'd only eaten North African cuisine a few times previously, so had nothing to compare it to). Overall it was a pleasant experience, tasty but not amazing, and on the expensive side. I would recommend it to a friend with all these caveats, but probably won't be rushing back too soon. Maybe the private circus is the big draw?
The food was bland for Moroccan food. I expected more spices in the ravine and couscous.
Amazing food and perfect service. Great wine list but small pours.
Fabulous food and ambience. Will definitely be back.
Great service, food and value
Berber is very well decorated, but the food and entertainment was not the best I've had. The food was exciting sounding, but in reality all the things we ate (except for the cocktails and baklava) were pretty bland. The entertainment component was honestly a little awkward. I was there for brunch, and I guess for dinner the entertainment is in another room with a stage and lighting and such, so the dinner experience would probably be better. For brunch, they just had people performing in the front room right next to tables, and I was a bit nervous that I'd get hit by a hula hoop or a sword the whole time. I think it'd be more fun for dinner.
The food and service were both very good. I enjoyed the dancing as well. Thought it was a nice Mother’s Day breakfast. The meat in the steak and eggs was overdone but everything else was delicious! The Bloody Mary was really good!! Just the right amount of spice. Definitely do the pancakes. They were perfect.
Took them 50 min to seat us for our reservation. Then another 15 min to get water after asking 5 times. Drinks were 30 min in and first bite to eat 45 min.
I'm so happy Berber is here.
The main dining room is lovely. High ceilings great lighting with soft sand colored walls. It's open and yet still offers intimate conversion and comfortable seating.
Our service on two recent visits was excellent and enthusiastic. Ricardo was very helpful and knowledgeable and was right on about every suggestion.
Our food was such a fun exploration. We didn't know exactly what to expect and each dish was a surprising delight. My vegan buddy was thrilled as was I.
There is such s a nice balance of meats dishes and vegan items.. and you do not need to be a vegan to enjoy these healthy unique and flavorful dishes.
The wine list was approachable, so we felt free to enjoy more than we usually do with fine/casual city dining pricing.
The cocktails where big and pretty on our first visit.
and the Aperol spritz was beautiful big and glowing on our second visit, so several of those where enjoyed :)
I'm looking forward to hosting a birthday in the dinner theater room in back.
It's looks super fun & sexy back there and we caught a sneak peek of the belly dancers and other performers, More exotic and fresh experiences to check out!
This restaurant is very beautiful. A true success for the decor and the atmosphere. But... Please, please make authentic Moroccan food using the flavorful Moroccan spices. Make the dishes less bland. We were a party of 5, we shared appetizers and 4 different tagines. We all agreed that all the dishes were ok, but not amazing. We want to love this place since we love Moroccan cuisine and in SF there is not a good Moroccan restaurant. I hope they improve.
Super classy and unpretentious restaurant- fine dining experience with personality and excellent ambiance. The staff and the manager were incredible! And if you're lucky enough to get a table in the back room for the show on a Friday or Saturday night, you will not be disappointed!!
Fun front dining hall experience even without the theater option.
The ambiance is incredibly cool but I thought the food was a bit underwhelming and the service a little unattentive.
I worked in Morocco for 18 months and thought the food and ambiance was phenomenal!!! Very authentic
Amazing experience! I can’t stop coming back. Everything is excellent! Ambience, food and service.
Berber just opened a couple of months ago, so of course they will be working to smooth out the service. I’m confident once they get everyone working in sync, it will be wonderful. While it’s still in the works, it’s worth a visit.
-Make reserving the dinner with entertainment more clear. We thought entertainment was part of the general dining experience. We were told you must call the restaurant directly to reserve the tables in the back where the entertainment takes place.
-Make the cushions along the walls a little slimmer. They are so thick they make you sit quite high up over the table. It’s uncomfortable, especially for taller people.
-Lower the music volume just a little. It’s so loud that we watched other patrons leaning across the table to have even a brief conversation with their friends as we had.
- Improve the service. Our waitress was not very responsive. After waiting too long to order drinks, we thought she’d be more attentive to take the main orders. At one point, we tried to get her attention, but she was so engrossed in conversation with the owner/manager by the computer she was not paying attention to her tables. The staff that assist the waiters were much more conscientious about taking our additional orders. I’d give them the waiting job!
The Sommelier was superb. She was spot on with her recommendation. Plus, she pitched in to bring us a couple of our orders that were yet to arrive.
The food was quite good. The lamb was delicious, the semolina bread was very flavorful as were the beets with goat cheese! Friends opined that the saffron chicken was a little too salty and lacked saffron.
Overall we enjoyed the food, desserts and the ambience. We’ll be back in a couple months to enjoy Berber again.
It’s the second time I’m at Berber. First time in the back room for a private party, everything was good. This time in a large party of 8 everything was just perfect. From the welcoming throughout the service was impecable, food came at perfect timing and was delicious and I have to say it was very reasonable. An excellent experience overall.
It is loud but I would call it happening and fun.
Highly recommend if you like delicious food, knowledgeable service, good music and great ambiance!
Berber is a new restaurant in San Francisco on the corner of Broadway and Van Ness in a nice neighborhood, with fabulous ambiance, dinner & a show option on Saturday nights with musicians and performers. The food is very tasty and unique. I felt transformed into the exotics of North Africa, Tunisia I visited last summer. Very unique, elegant, romantic, relaxing new hot spot in the City. Highly recommend.
The appetizers were good (except for stuffed radishes, which was basically a bland salad), but I really enjoyed the branzino entrée and my friend liked short ribs. The desserts had interesting flavors and were quite unique. What I didn't like was inattentive service. Our server took our drink orders and disappeared for 40 minutes. We had to flag a different server to place our food order. As a result, our dinner lasted 3 hours!
I was looking forward to trying this place, but the food just wasn't very good.
