You won't be expecting something "Truly Chinese", "Truly Korean", or "Truly Japanese" here at Benu. What you will experience is an amazing collision and fusion of eastern and western cultures - from ingredients to cutlery to flavor to the ways they are cooked and served.
I first tried to categorize the courses by culture such as "ah this one is from China", "ah this one is French", etc, but I immediately realized that this is not a good idea - the value Benu wants to deliver, I think, is a successful mix of attitudes to food from different cultures. Even if sometimes you might get lost in the center of the swirl.
All courses are perfectly cooked, indeed.
Amazing from door to door. Exceptional food. Impeccable service. Well deserving of 3 stars.
Brilliantly delicious innovative dinner. Beverage pairing was interestingly dynamic, well done.
Utterly out-of-this-world perfection. Most delicious, incredibly feast for all senses.
Great food! Great service!
Easily one of the best meals I've ever had at a well-designed, minimalistic restaurant. The cuisine is creative, delicious, and is presented wonderfully. Truly deserves its accolades and as long as you're okay with spending a pretty penny, it's worth it.
With 3 Michelin stars the fact that the food presentation and quality is amazing shouldn't come as a surprise. What was a surprise is how accommodating the staff were, they were informative put my partner and I at ease and made the experience a pleasure. The wine pairing was fantastic, and notable dishes included the little delicacies and quails egg. The chef Corey Lee completed the experience by signing my partners menu which made her evening. The only point to note is that it is expensive even for this level of cuisine but we thought it was worth every penny for a special occasion.
Why, oh why, aren't there more than five stars?
I have no words for this meal. The best I've ever had and may ever have. So creative, delicious and original. The service was impeccable and formal, yet never stuffy. This is an extreme example of a beautiful restaurant experience. If you can afford to splurge, you will not regret it. Sublime.
Benu is more than an exciting dining experience. It is a thrill. Each course -- and there are many -- is a feast for the senses, a visual art form, a flavor explosion. The evening did not disappoint for even a second. The service was exemplary, the ambience subdued and elegant, the wine list notable - each sake perfectly matched to the cuisine, and for three hours we reveled in gastronomic heaven. Having become acquainted with all six three-star Michelin restaurants in the Bay Area, we put Benu at the top. Chef Corey Lee's extraordinary culinary talents make it a dining experience not to be missed.
Dinner at Benu was truly stellar dining experience. It took familiar treats--xiao long bao, sea urchin, pork belly, century egg to name a few--and elevated them to entirely new heights. A 3 Michelin star meal from start to end.
This is the best restaurant in San Francisco, he use different ingredients all the time, Asian influence, always change dishes for customers come often.
His famous Xiao lung Bao, squail, abalone make a very good taste. Other dishes like uni, lobster roe with crab sauce amazing.
Benu was the best dining experience I have ever had. Knowledgeable servers, great attitudes, and the best cuisine I've ever had.
The food and service at Benu was excellent. Favorites include the salmon roe, uni and quail. The multiple appetizers at the beginning were all tasty and creative - the mussel with the tortellini in the middle was our favorite. Will definitely try to get back to Benu soon!
Food and service were wonderful. Do NOT get the wine pairing it is a poor value.
Would rate it as a 2 stars and not a 3 actually. The food was great but the way the menu was presented was a little bit misleading...
Fantastic on all level. Well deserving of its Michelin rating!! Highly recommend!!
Greeted in restaurant courtyard with smell of garbage (or kimchi or fermenting soy?) - not pleasant. As we were a few minutes early, we needed to wait for our table - tried waiting outside but the smell was unappetizing.
Once seated, the service was fine. No hard sell on the wine pairing with dinner (which I appreciated). At an additional $210 per person plus service charge - better off ordering great bottle of champagne or wine!
The decor was bland - stark and unremarkable. The ambience was that of a library. Hushed tones. Eventually, they piped a little background music in dining room which helped with ambience.
Food. Excellent. Just exceptional. Every dish a wonder and delight. As a pure food experience - this place I worth it. However, as a dining experience - ambience needs a little work. And maybe plant jasmine in courtyard to help with off putting smell.
Likely the single best restaurant experience we have ever had.
We had a fantasticl meal at Benu. Everything was impeccable. Each part of the meal from the tableware, to the service, to the special birthday treat was delightful and special.
This restaurant is probably among the top tables in the nation. Food is "interesting farm to table Asian fusion". The menu is a tasting menu only. The first half is a random number of small bites giving you a dim sum feeling. The second half of the menu are set courses which come out sequentially but sometimes in groups (two dishes at a time) and some dishes are semi-family style. This reminded me of a family style Chinese restaurant where dishes come out as they are cooked. These were the feelings the whole thing was actually orchestrated very formally. Staff was friendly and cordial. Decor is sparse asian.
Good service. Food is good, but not worth that much money
Amazing👏🏻service and delicious food are super super good and all people there are sweet and nice.I highly recommend this restaurant for everyone. At least try once in your life!
Benu is the Perfection !!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Absolutely amazing meal at Benu! Each course was exceptional and the nuances were simply amazing. The wine/alcohol pairings were inspired.
Amazing food, wonderful service, so creative with the flavors, textures and presentation
What an amazing dining experience! We will be back!
Very occomdatiing to my pesciterian daughter. 3 re time I have eaten here. Great food and pairing every time.
Fabulous food, very artistic & incredibly flavorful....loved the presentations, great wait staff
Atmosphere a little too stark for me but that's just a personal preference....
The final bill almost gave my husband heart failure lol
Unbelievable dining experience! Bravo!!👍🍷
The tasting menu was superb and the service was spectacular. The wine pairing with the tasting menu was one of the best we've ever had as far as highlighting and complementing the unique flavors of each dish. It was an expensive meal but well worth the money. We'll definitely come back.
As an Asian, I was shocked by the manu created by chef Corey Lee here in Benu. I've tasted things which are similar to what I eat daily; however, everything looks fancy and they are just like art of food. Both me and my boyfriend like here so much. We hope to try here again when the new seasonal manu comes out. :)
Food was good but may have been an off night since we have definitely had better tasting dishes and more variety at a lesser Michelin star restaurant in town. Enjoyed the evening but it’ll be a while before we consider coming back.
The food was very creative and delicious. The service was also great. I have nothing to complain.
Highly creative cuisine in a minimalist setting. We appreciated being expertly guided by the staff thru a journey of textures, flavors and culinary surprises.
The most amazing dining experience I have ever had in San Francisco.
This restaurant was recommended to us by the Australian chef from Sepia. Sadly, for the money, the service was rather rushed and rude. For example the young French waitress stood over me waiting for me to finish my dish, so I told her to go away until I was finished.
The food was supposedly SO innovative it deserved Michelin stars. Whilst I agree the presentation was exceptional, the flavours were not so imaginative.
Sepia in Sydney is far superior.
The foods they served surprised our tongues. opened our eyes of Chinese / Asian foods. we will go back soon.
This is the best haute cuisine in the Bay area. It may be the best restaurant in the United States. It is an experience without parallel.
Consistent great experience all around.
My dear friend felt very special on her B'day celebration! 😊
