Ben's Next Door
On the menu at Ben's Next Door, guests can find delicious dishes like the popular shrimp and white grits, brined fried chicken and crispy-skin salmon. A variety of seafood, meat and vegetarian dishes are also offered as starters, salads and main dishes. Specialty dishes at the restaurant include the jerk chicken pasta alfredo, jumbo lump crab cake and chicken + waffles.
I have been to Ben's Next Door on several occasions. This visit was a little different. It was very loud, and my waitress was not very good. I am not sure if she was new at her job or just did not know how to give great customer service.
The food was excellent. We had chicken and waffles and shrimp and grits Plus the wings with Mumbo Sauce. Everything was great the waitress, the manager, and the ambience.
This is not a place for children the food rather Bland, I will not be going there anytime soon if at all. The noise level is absolutely unbelievable
Great service and atmosphere! Food was delicious
Amazing! I enjoyed myself and the food was great! The ambience was nice!
I have not shut up about this restaurant since dinning there. I came on the 26th of July for dinner and fell in love so much that I came right back the next afternoon for brunch. Amazing food, drinks, music and, service some of the fastest service I have had in a while. If you go make sure u get the brunch punch with the home made fruit punch
Excellent food and music! Took a friend from out of town and it was a perfect low key brunch!
My son & I was out for brunch. I ordered the shrimp & grits, he had the waffles.. He really enjoyed mine, said next time he’ll order that. The food is very delicious. They offer 2 hr bottomless mimosas for $20. I did not partake because I was with my son.
Amazing place and Authentic, excellent service! the chicken and Waffles was perfect!
The food was very good. We had the catfish with kale and spinach. The menu is not very extensive but what they had was great.
Unfortunately the evening we went for dinner it was above normal heat outside and the air conditioning was not working well. I was very uncomfortable.
I went for the bottomless mimosas brunch special expecting a chaotic atmosphere and not being able to hear my own voice (what you would expect at any typical DC brunch). But I was blown away with a relaxed, cozy ambiance, delicious shrimp and grits, and wonderful, speedy service. Would still advise booking a table just to be safe.
Well, my wife and I had a reservation and when we arrived we were told that we could not be seated. It was explained to us that there were some sort of party going on. If that was the case why did they allow us to get reservations and not only that why didn’t someone inform us that we could not gain access because of the party? My wife and I was really blown by this experience because we drove quite a while to get there.
Celebrating and meeting long time friends.
Greeter at door was less-than-enthusiastic about seating us. Bathrooms were not very clean.
FOOD WAS GREAT, WAITRESS WAS PLEASANT ,KNEW THE MENU, SUGGESTED ITEMS, COURTEOUS, WENT IN MIDDLE OF DAY ON SATURDAY ,NO WAIT TIME, PATIENT.
Usually when I’m in DC Ben’s is a go to and doesn’t disappoint but this time the service was very slow and our server inattentive. Got there around 11 and it wasn’t crowded but they were out of coffee so therefore ordered tea which took 20 minutes to get after asking 3 different people. The food was decent but not worth dealing with the subpar service and the value for the food has gone down. Next time I will opt for somewhere else.
Came here for brunch on a Saturday. Amazing. Great chill vibe (they played 2000s R&B music). Food was also really good!
The food & service was outstanding. The band was not great & was much too loud but I think that's because where were seated. Would totally recommend & I'll be returning
I truly enjoyed Bens Next Door. Our server was outstanding. He recommended the Duke which was strong but good. We ate the Chicken & Waffles which were soft and delicious. I highly recommend it.
Great historic location is a must see!
Wonderful food although the chili was too spicy for me but others will enjoy it.
You're coming here for great food. Eating here is an investment so they can upgrade the tables and chairs, and do justice to what's coming out of the kitchen. Thoughtful staff, interesting menu executed well. This place has a heart.
Theres a lot of potential for this location. One of the major barriers I see this location having is: lack of staffing.
I've been a Washingtonian transplant for the last 7 years and have always been delighted to take visiting guests to Ben's Next Door as I believe it to be a staple Capitol restaurant. My recent trip however really and truly has me rethinking taking visitors here. My server was AMAZING so this review in no part reflects on the service received. The new condensed menu is extremely lackluster. I heard that they've shifted management and it clearly shows in the removal of some staple menu items. For example, the absence of the organic cheese grits, sweet potato fries, Asian bliss wings, etc. was shocking. The inability to order from Ben's chili bowl has apparently also been severed. I hope that this trial run of shortening the menu and testing out new things doesn't last much longer so that I can visit again and have some of the favorites that make BND memorable!
Made a reservation for dinner prior to a concert next door at the Lincoln Theater. Everybody was friendly and pleasant. Got there before the place filled up. Had wings and some drinks. We were pleased with what we had as appetizers and waited to order dinner. Well, the place filled up and the wait staff seemed to have a hard time keeping up. Ordered two bacon cheeseburgers and 35 minutes later still did not get our food. The concert started at 8:00 so by 7:15 we decided to cancel the order and had popcorn at the show for dinner. I felt bad because our waiter was very nice but I think he got too busy and maybe forgot to place our order??? Hate to give a bad review but want to be truthful. Maybe they need to amp up the wait staff on concert nights. Makes sense, right? We did like the atmosphere and the convenience of being right next to the theater was perfect. Honestly, I'd give them another try next time.
good time, good vibe, good drinks...my new DC spot
Our meal was delicious and we were especially pleased with the service. Our waitress couldn't have been nicer- or more efficient!
We went to Ben’s Next Door because we were attending a concert at the theater next door. The food was excellent. Their cornbread muffins with honey butter is amazing! I got the shrimp and grits and was not disappointed! Great night! The only downside is there is no local parking garage. We actually had to walk from P and 15, 6 blocks in the snow. They really need to work on more public garages.
The food was great. I don’t think they utilize open table as I left a note that it was our guests birthday and asked for a special desert after our meal. However it didn’t happen. But service was okay. Staff could be nicer.
This is a place every Washingtonian should visit at least once. I had a taste for a half-smoked and they satisfied my craving! The Mumbo wings were delicious too! So was the catfish and shrimp baskets. And I highly recommend the white sangria!
It was nice
This is my favorite restuarant because the shrimp and grits are to die for!!
The waiter was really hospitable and also great food
Had a great time and the food was good. Would recommend to a friend
Nice atmosphere, excellent waitress, food was great
Amazing food and ambiance! The food is flavorful and all the staff members are delightful and unique. Love this place as a new DC transplant from Tennessee.
