We had a good dinner. I started with the escargots bourguignonne, which was delicious. Two of us had the steak tartare for a main course and were very happy with our meals. The third person ordered the duck for a main course and was given a small slice of a duck breast, which was delicious, but unimaginable as a main course.
Trying the NYC Benoit for first time, have been to one in Paris many times, bar area quaint dinning room needs some color, service great, food get top marks,.
The Tart Tatin is a must have. While a touch pricey the wine list gets top marks as does the menu. Save for speical night. It was our 45th anniversary.
Very good Bristot in a more touristic area!
Excellent meal and service! Interesting selection with good wine list.
Superb. It is, without a doubt, among the finest French restaurants in NYC. Great service, fine wine list and outstanding cuisine.
Excellent brunch place
Brunch was very good. Enjoyed the sweet corner with unlimited crepes and pancakes made to order (amongst other goodies). The buckwheat galette was delicious. Good value for the money.
The waiter and service staff rushed us and took the food away before we were finished. Food was good but very small portions.
After theater dinner was excellent! Great service! And food!
Food was very good. We tried a mix of five hors d'oeuvres plus a pate, the duck entrée and the tart tatin for dessert, and particularly liked the shrimp ceviche and the octopus hors d'oeuvres. Service was attentive but there were some language difficulties; I could not make the person who took our order understand that I'd like the appetizers I ordered split for some to come at the same time as my companion's appetizer and the rest with her entrée, eventually gave up and all of them came at the same time as her entrée. There was also a pacing problem with the meal - reasonably paced for our glass of wine order and then the pate, but then a wait of maybe 40 minutes for the main course. We were not in a hurry so didn't inquire about the delay. Overall would recommend. The food we saw being delivered to nearby tables looked good as well.
I'll admit I came in with high expectations from a restaurant with Alain Ducasse's name on the door. Unfortunately this only added to the price tag of the meal and did not contribute to the quality of the food. The crisp sea bean and spelt salad sitting under the striped bass tasted incredible with hints of bottarga haunting each bite. It's unfortunate though that on top of it sat a tough, unevenly cooked block of striped bass that was seemingly cooked half frozen (or half hearted). A true disappointment for what should have been the highlight of the dish. Had I not been out for lunch with business colleagues (and been the person to recommend the restaurant), I would have certainly sent it back to the kitchen for review.
Like this restaurant and have been many times Food is consistently good. Service is erratic and tonight was a mess The other thing that is consistent is poor service in terms of making and serving drinks Why does a mixed cocktail arrive and an aperitif poured over an ice cube take an extra five minutes? While management deleted a charge,it remains a mystery why this pattern persists In other occasions the drinks were improperly prepared Maybe the bartender needs a tutorial
Great place for a date
We chose Benoit for a pre-concert dinner and were delighted with the good food and wine and the quick and attentive service. It has the ambiance of a French brasserie and reminded me of the many pleasant hours where I spent my time during my student days in Paris many years ago.
Had family Easter Brunch- incredible food , exceptional service - tasty cocktails . The reverse martini is a must have as was house special drink / pomegranate juice, grey goose and champagne - not sweet - this a I great drink .
We ordered all the brunch starters-cheese, Pate/charcuterie , pastry basket and tarte. We gobbled - they were all delicious and we felt as if we were in Paris . Entrees were inventive and tasty . Dessert crepes - try chocolate and Nutella .
Is a wonderful experience and will definitely head back there . Very nice bar/wine bistro in front . This is a can’t miss .
Sublime, as only Alain Ducasse can be. Best bistro meal I've had outside Paris. Impeccable -- and not at all pretentious -- service. Fantastic meal.
Excellent address, cozy and elegant in busy, noisy midtown. Elegant, tasteful French classic food with impeccable service. I will come back!
Visit Benoit often over the years ... I just moved to two blocks away and now I go to Benoit at least once a week for either lunch or dinner. Food is always good ... service is touch and go depending on attendant . Some are better than others. Lunch price is reasonable but dinner a bit on the high side and there is no Prefix menu. Restaurant is a lot quieter than many others in midtown. That's why I don't go to those other restaurants any more.
Perfection as always.
The food and service were awesome!!!
The sweetbreads were almost perfect. I will be back in the hope that they will be perfect next time.
This was recommend by my brother who lives in NYVC. Food was excellent but the service was NOT!!! it took over 1 to get our entrees. We had to ask for a second round of drinks and we had to ask for our check. The waiter had a bit of an attitude. Food was very authentic but was not happy with the service.
We started with a drink in the bar. Good wine list and genuine recommendations.
We are at 8pm so I think we missed the theatre rush. I had steak and was very pleased. Cooked and seasoned well.
Well prepared traditional French dishes. The mille-feuille was excellent.
Where do I even begin... the decor and atmosphere are wonderful and you feel transported back to Paris. The cheese puffs that are complementary are to die for. The meal and service were great and they let you have a leisurely mean unlike most French restaurants I’ve been to where you are rushed from the time you walk in the door. Highly recommend the onion soup, escargots, Poulet Rôti, and the king salmon. Dessert was superb - and they served Madeline’s with the coffee which was a treat. Will definitely be coming back again and again!
We ate here twice last week: once because we were looking for a nice dinner before the theatre and the second time because we so completely enjoyed our first dinner, we wanted to return for the roast chicken and charcuterie appetizer that we saw at another table and that were recommended by the head sommelier.
Both dinners were excellent with outstanding and attentive service. Benoit exemplifies an outstanding wait staff, well-curated wine list (including wines by the glass), all in the service of a classic and delicious menu. I think they were surprised to see us back so soon ... our plan is to dine at Benoit more regularly. Alexis (head sommelier) and Christopher (general manager) made our experiences exemplary - but, everyone on the staff demonstrated how well orchestrated this restaurant is.
A friend’s birthday. The service was attentive but not smothering. Fantastic modern French food
We have always enjoyed this place. Great when we are going to City Center. Great food and wine and great staff
Experienced the "Good France" menu for the first time-dined at the bar.
The entire experience was on-brand and first class-well worth the money
and then some.
Good food great service.
Good for the price, you get what you pay for.
I took my Greek friend, slightly handicapped, out for her Birthday. We couldn't have been treated better. We could pick our table for her comfort, it was not noisy - we could actually talk at a normal decibel level. The food - in our case salmon and halibut - was cooked exactly to our liking. The dessert, my favorite Tarte tatin - excellent. The little cheese puffs before dinner and the freshly baked cookie afterwards were very gracious. I have been there on private party, at other smaller celebratory occasions as well as Restaurant Week occasions and was never disappointed.
Love the food, the atmosphere and the service. Best Bistro experience outside of Paris (which it feels like and tastes like, in every good way).
Special place where excellence meets elegance.
Excellent restaurant for special occasions and date. We ordered French onion soup which was among the best we have ever had. The filet was cooked in perfection. The duck l’orange was also fantastic, not fatty at all. Highly recommended.
Food portions and quality where absolutely amazing. We left feeling like we had way to much to eat. Had a gluten allergy and the servers kept me up to speed on all the items. Will definitely go back. If I could of given more then 5 stars I would
Great spot. Delicious food and great staff. Very attentive
We’ve dined here a few times in the past and had wonderful meals with superb service. Maybe they were off their game that night, but both suffered - especially the service. We had to ask more than once to order, and felt abandoned at times. Our first course was cleared in a rush, and the second plopped on the table. Again, nothing like previous meals. Too bad, as we convinced our friends to dine at Benoit rather than going down to another favorite in Gramercy.
I’m a regular at Benoit and for some reason this most recent visit was particularly great. Nothing unusual, just that everything was just right.
We are visiting NYC for our daughter’s (quite early) spring break from Univ of Michigan and thought she would enjoy the food and atmosphere. It was our second visit to Benoit. (Discovered it last Mother’s Day Weekend during a quick few days in NYC after moving our son from his dorm room and before our flight home a few days later.) Despite all the fabulous restaurants in the area, we felt Benoit was well worth a repeat visit. The cheese puffs (I’m sure there is a proper French name.) served at the start are fantastic as is all the food and service.
We love to dine at Benoit. The food is superb. The service is perfect. Everything I just wonderfully. We always have a wonderful evening when we dine there.
