We have always enjoyed this place. Great when we are going to City Center. Great food and wine and great staff
Good food great service.
Good for the price, you get what you pay for.
I took my Greek friend, slightly handicapped, out for her Birthday. We couldn't have been treated better. We could pick our table for her comfort, it was not noisy - we could actually talk at a normal decibel level. The food - in our case salmon and halibut - was cooked exactly to our liking. The dessert, my favorite Tarte tatin - excellent. The little cheese puffs before dinner and the freshly baked cookie afterwards were very gracious. I have been there on private party, at other smaller celebratory occasions as well as Restaurant Week occasions and was never disappointed.
Love the food, the atmosphere and the service. Best Bistro experience outside of Paris (which it feels like and tastes like, in every good way).
Special place where excellence meets elegance.
Excellent restaurant for special occasions and date. We ordered French onion soup which was among the best we have ever had. The filet was cooked in perfection. The duck l’orange was also fantastic, not fatty at all. Highly recommended.
Food portions and quality where absolutely amazing. We left feeling like we had way to much to eat. Had a gluten allergy and the servers kept me up to speed on all the items. Will definitely go back. If I could of given more then 5 stars I would
Great spot. Delicious food and great staff. Very attentive
We’ve dined here a few times in the past and had wonderful meals with superb service. Maybe they were off their game that night, but both suffered - especially the service. We had to ask more than once to order, and felt abandoned at times. Our first course was cleared in a rush, and the second plopped on the table. Again, nothing like previous meals. Too bad, as we convinced our friends to dine at Benoit rather than going down to another favorite in Gramercy.
I’m a regular at Benoit and for some reason this most recent visit was particularly great. Nothing unusual, just that everything was just right.
We are visiting NYC for our daughter’s (quite early) spring break from Univ of Michigan and thought she would enjoy the food and atmosphere. It was our second visit to Benoit. (Discovered it last Mother’s Day Weekend during a quick few days in NYC after moving our son from his dorm room and before our flight home a few days later.) Despite all the fabulous restaurants in the area, we felt Benoit was well worth a repeat visit. The cheese puffs (I’m sure there is a proper French name.) served at the start are fantastic as is all the food and service.
We love to dine at Benoit. The food is superb. The service is perfect. Everything I just wonderfully. We always have a wonderful evening when we dine there.
We have been dining at Benoit for at least 10 years ( last time a year ago). It seems to have fallen down a bit.
The service at Benoit is not at the standards that it needs to be for fine dining. It is slow and there are not enough waiters/waitresses. I have never felt well attended to at the restaurant and will not be returning.
Great service, very responsive and helpful. I have eaten here many times and always find the food to be excellent. There was a very unfortunate incident at the next table (obviously not the restaurant's fault) but the staff cleaned up the mess quickly and professionally.
The restaurant is very good. Many of the waitstaff are from Paris adding to the authenticity of a French Bistro.
Have eaten at Benoit a number of times and usually relatively quiet. Last night we were seated next to a more boisterous group so it moderately noisy but easy to tune out and still have a conversation without raising our voices.
Ordered the escargot as an appetizer and calf's liver as main. Was underwhelmed by escargot. Not enough flavor. The calf's liver with lyonnaise potatoes was great. It was cooked to perfection, very tender and wonderful flavor. Would definitely order again.
The service was at times intrusive. After ordering drinks the wait staff kept coming over wanting to know if we were ready to order. My guest and I just wanted to enjoy our drinks and converse a while before ordering. The constant pressure to order was annoying.
A pleasant blend of refined and relaxed atmosphere. Excellent food (devine veal liver). Surprisingly, French fries could be better but mushrooms saved the sides, excellent. Very good service.
Benoit is simply a “valeur sûre” in New York City.
This is the best bistro in NYC. Menu is perfect combination of classics and new offers. Service is attentive and seamless.
nous avons adore notre passage dans votre restaurant au bon gout de France
Pour nous qui vivons toute l'année aux US cela fait du bien de se retrouver dans cette ambiance.
Merci et a très vite pour un prochain séjour a New York
We visit here every time we come to New York. Consistently excellent. This time they came out with a complimentary warm pan of madelines and urged us to take one! The staff is always excellent and professional.
Everything was excellent but the noise undid the excellence. I Hope you Can take care of this.
Benoit is an elegant, classic French bistro-style restaurant that we often choose for unhurried romantic evenings with good conversation and well-prepared traditional food. We came the day after Valentine's rather than the day itself to avoid the crowd, and as we hoped, the restaurant was not jammed. However, the service was strangely inattentive even though there were plenty of staff. Our sense was that they weren't really paying attention, even though they were walking around a lot. Timing in-between courses was long. The chestnut velouté was exceptional - rich and light at the same time, and the accompanying cromesquis were crunchy on the outside, and steaming and flavorful to the bite. Cassoulet (which on other occasions here I've thought was the best I'd ever tasted) was dry, though the duck confit and sausage were excellent. Even the complimentary madeleines were dry. And we would have considered dessert but by the time we got someone's attention, we thought better of it. This was not the best evening for this usually wonderful restaurant.
Can’t praise enough the duck foie gras and the foie de veau. The profiteroles are splendid.
It was great for Valentine’s don’t get me wrong. But the food on a day like that is what you would expect. Didn’t feel freshly prepared and just wasn’t equal the price tag.
Great! Although servers were not overly accommodating for making sure our table was well stocked on drinks. Otherwise they were flexible when it came to modifying set menu. Delicious!
Benoit Restaurant is superb. Everything was excellent, from the food to the service.
Experiencing Benoit explains why Alain Ducasse has received so many Michelin Stars.
My husband and I will return and recommend to our friends who understand wonderful French cuisine.
Excellent old fashioned French bistro fare--outed mayonnaise, tarte flambée, cassoulet. Delicious hot madeleines as handouts. Service was very uneven. Wine was excellent.
I come to Benoit for Sunday brunch every time I'm in New York. It's just wonderful. You feel as if you were in Paris! The food and the service are great. Roast chicken is delicious!
The food and service are outstanding.
Benoit is quickly becoming one of our favorite restaurants. The food/staff/ambiance are so authentically french and fantastic. Alexis, the Head Sommelier is so knowledgeable and delightful and always steers us towards wonderful bottles of wine. The roast chicken is perfect...we always enjoy our evenings here whether it's just my husband and I or a group of friends!
From start to finish it was an excellent dinner experience. You can tell there was great thought in the preparation of each dish .
The tastes were distinct and crisp and not the overly salty sauces.
The soufflé is a must.
Still like Bouley the best but this is excellent.
We have been customers of Benoit since it opened. While the food is consistently high standard the service can at times be lacking. On our last visit the young lady responsible for welcoming us and seating us seemed bewildered that we would wish to have a drink at the bar first and then seemed to forget that we had a reservation when prompted. The service at the bar however is always outstanding. Paul the bartender is a classic example of old school bar tending sadly becoming hard to find in the city as tattoos and beards seem to have replaced product knowledge and personality. He is welcoming, freindly and as knowledgable as any Sommelier. He keeps us coming back.
Fantastic food service and ambiance five stars
dinner was very good/ service excellent and attentive/ since we visited during Restaurant Week,
we felt the value was wonderful. Yes, would definitely go back to Benoit.
My one complaint is the rest room...down a steep flight, cramped and out of place in this elegant restaurant. A unisex handicapped bathroom on the first floor would be a blessing.
Food was well prepared and very good. Service was very attentive. A new find for me and I will be back many times again.
Absolutely amazing! I had he filet mignon au poivre which was delicious!
Authentic french food!
