Our drinks never came so we had to flag someone down. Then they finally came when the dinner was delivered. So much for a cocktail before dinner. Waitress said no one was helping her so it wasn't her fault. Chicken was dry. French fries cool and not crispy. Bummer all around. Won't be back.

Not convinced it's worth the expense

Yes, it's beautiful, quiet, and the food is scrumptious - but my duck a l'orange consisted of one long slice of duck breast. One slice, approximately 6 or 7 inches long, an inch tall, and 1/4 inch wide. This is a tiny portion, in my opinion. The duck came with some highly forgettable leeks/parsnip circles. There went $36. I wouldn't call that a "breast of duck." I'd say it was a nice sample of a breast of duck. In contrast, my husband's onion soup was incredibly large and filling. One could have fed four with all the melted cheese. He also enjoyed a huge portion of steak tartare, coarse ground, very tasty.

This was my third visit after the change.
First time steak tartar was to chewy. Uneatable.
Second time was New Year's Eve. Fabulous food.
Third visit, the main ingredient in onion soup was salt. And cassoulet pot was left on the stove unattended for too long before it was served. It had hardly and liquid.

All it all the service has improved but the food is too inconsistent to go there on a regular basis. You'll be taking a chance. The only thing that's consistent is the fabulous price.
Alain, I don't think I'll see you again mon ami.

Very poor quality food--oysters were small and tasteless, sweetbreads and duck entrees
were boring and flat. Onion soup and millefeuille dessert were flavorless. Extremely disappointing dinner  for a huge amount of money. We told the manager our thoughts and
he reduced the amount of the bill, but we still ended up paying over $200 a couple for an
unpleasant experience.

I used to come here a decade ago. It’s about the same which is a good thing. What’s to be expected of a Alain Ducasse Restaurant. Standouts are: onion soup, pate, and especially the Tarte Tatin.

It’s a pleasant shift from the noise of the City. The food is excellent and the setting is classy.

The food was excellent and the servers were much more attentive than in a typical European restaurant. Some of the flavor combinations were unexpected but tasty! We also dined in the bar area on another occasion for a quick bite of dessert and were quite pleased.

Christmas dinner at Benoit was most enjoyable. I'd have liked a different fish option (though my daughter enjoyed the one offered), but the oysters were just right, the duck was absolutely the tenderest I've ever had, and the terrine au chocolate was dreamy. The wines were well-chosen & the sommelier most helpful in answering questions.

The Christmas Eve menu was an extraordinary experience, flavors and textures made an incredible mix. The oysters, the duck, the fillet mignon and the cod fish were amazing, and the grapefruit with champagne dessert were also extraordinary. We love it

Only one thing they need to look into: one person manning the front desk and checking coats on a busy Friday night made for a difficult check in. It wasn’t her fault; she was overwhelmed by several parties all coming in at the same time and she had no help.

Once we were seated, everything was sublime.

My husband and I dined at Benoit last week and loved our meal. We decided to return the next week to taste the fabulous looking roasted chicken. The chicken was dry and tasteless, and my husband’s potato soup was cold. The roasted chicken lunch was most disappointing and not up to the standards we’d experienced the week before.

Excellent for business lunch.
The layout provides comfortable space, privacy and openness to it - a simple zen quality.
The food portion was un-American with smaller amounts but still filling enough to require a long walk in Mid-town afterwards. I had the bourguignon which usually is salty because the big pot used to cook it is placed over a low simmering heat and becomes condensed. This one was not and seemed just perfectly timed for my order - meat and vegetables were firm and succulent. Dessert sizes were generous, just like in France.
Waiter was slow in coming around, thus it became a long 2 hour lunch. In France, they do that on purpose. Not ideal for me where I need to get back to the office in an hour.

Wonderful bistro. As close to Paris as you can get in New York City. Given the highquality of the drinks, food and wine, it is also a great value compared to other restaurants of this type. An overall wonderful experience.
