Benny's Chop House Ratings and Reviews
Appetizers were good. Entres were fair at best. Dover sole overcooked, lobster risotto good, farfalle poor, no flavor. Veal special sounded good but wine was not reduced undercooked. Very disappointed. Would not return. The service and the waiter was superb.
We've walked by this place a million times and finally went in - what a pleasant surprise! Beautiful bar area with wonderful, live music, big windows, great views & loads of light too. For some reason this place doesn't get the press of other steakhouses in Chicago but I had the best steak here that I've had in a long time. And my sweetie's whitefish entree was excellent as well. The bar service was a touch slow possibly due to it being a Saturday night. We prefer bar seating but a peek in the dining showed considerable elegance and it wasn't noisy like so many of the other steakhouses in town where you can't hear each other. We go to Rosebud Steakhouse on Walton often for sports viewing & great food but this place is better!
Our lead waiter was not impressive!
He never once asked how our meal tasted or cooked per our requested. all he said was "do you have everything you need"
I'm in the hospitality business and that one action left me unimpressed with Benny's and I made the reservation based on recommendations from several people!
The steaks here are great but unfortunately the king crab was definitely not. It was super dry and had no taste...like it had been cracked and microwaved. The server was okay but did forget to put in one of our appetizers. We were there for two birthdays and got seated in the bar it was 8pm and the restaurant was super slow. Not sure why they wouldn't put us in the actual dining room. We wouldn't return to Benny's...
We had a wonderful 12th Anniversary dinner at Benny's! The food was excellent, our server was very attentive, and our meal was called off with a delicious complimentary dessert that we thoroughly enjoyed. We'd love to go back!
Went there with a friend and coworker I hadn't caught up with in years. We had an epic meal, and a flawless experience. Beautiful wine and steak!
This was a great choice! We made a reservation but when we arrived we noticed that we could sit in the bar at a high top, which we preferred. We got the corner table by the window, had excellent service from Caesar, and fantastic food...not to mention the piano player was great as well. Would definitely recommend.
Excellent food quality and exceptional service. Enjoyed the ambience and location in downtown Chicago. Temporary maintenance issue with restroom, but enjoyed the exploration of the basement floor. Will visit again.
The restaurant was beautiful, it had a dark, relaxing ambiance with a great pianist. The bartender made an excellent Bloody Mary & the medium rare prime rib was perfectly cooked.
Great dry-aged steak. Would love it if there were 60-day options for the dry age, but otherwise the 30-day was cooked and seasoned very well!
Service was excellent, prices for drinks and sides were very high. Table of 6 with 1 bottle of wine ($135) and some bourbons was over $900.00. Although the food was very good, I do not think it supports the price of the experience.
I had NY Strip Au Poivre med. rare and my wife had the Atlantic salmon.. both were cooked perfectly. Wine list is extensive. wait staff was attentive and the place was busy with upscale clientele. I'd recommend it.
Always a stop when I'm in Chicago...you can cut the filet with a spoon!
My partner and I haven eaten nothing that went here for lunch. Immediately following our meal—and we shared our lunches—we both proceeded to feel ill. There must have been something in the food that day. The taste of the food was average.
I have had wonderful dinners here, service and food is always outstanding. This time I came for a business lunch, quiet atmosphere, very accommodating staff.
I ordered the wedge salad for around $10.50, it was TINY, no bread or crackers. My colleague ordered the fish tacos which were of value. Had I not been with a customer I would have complained, Way over priced and I was hungry the rest of the day.
I try and get to Benny’s every time I’m in Chicago. Always exceptional food, wine and service. And once again, I was not disappointed!
Benny's is always a must do for me when I am in Chicago. The wine list is a bit overpriced but the food is worth the visit.
I love this restaurant. Every time I come here for a special occasion, I am always impressed. My parents were in town, and I wanted to take them to a nice dinner. The restaurant even personalized our menus to say "Welcome, Mom and Dad!"
Food and service was excellent. I thought the prices of sides and cocktails a bit high. I don't mind paying money for good food, but a side of Brussels sprouts for $12 seems a bit overpriced.
The food was very good. We were drooling over the trays of steaks going by our table and our steaks were just as good as they looked. The wine list is extensive, but they could use a few more bottle choices that are lower in price. The best part of our dining experience was our waiter, Max. Dining here was a last minute decision, so I showed up in tennis shoes and a logo t-shirt. Shame on me, but Max took excellent care of us. He explained a number of great options for wines and suggested a few to sample before making a decision. He really took the time to find out what we were in the mood for drink and food wise, and made great recommendations.
I had the filet and my husband had the pork chop. My filet was good but not great. A couple of bites were tough and I had to spit them out. Not what I expect in a filet mignon. My husband felt the pork chop was good but not great. We shared a very large loaded baked potato. It was very good. We had the dessert that was recommended, the chocolate pudding cake, and it was delicious. I highly recommend the cake so save room in your tummy! It was a fun experience while we were inChicago. There are many steakhouse choices in Chicago and I would like to try some others when we return to Chicago to continue our search for the best steakhouse. We only go every couple of years so it may be a while before I review another steakhouse in Chicago.
This was my first experience at Benny's. We came for my friends birthday. Benny's really knows how to treat someone with a birthday...as soon as we sat down we were handed special menu's that had my friends name and age and a happy birthday message. Nice touch, Benny! Then there was the amazing chocolate cake that came with a birthday message, as well. It was a really great way to celebrate someone's birthday.
Regarding the food, we ordered a lot from the menu and most was incredible except for two things...creamed spinach was more like spinach with melted cheese. A little disappointing for people who really love creamed spinach and the second were the crab legs. The crab legs were dry and flavorless. It appeared as though they had been frozen for a long time and even tasted freezer burnt. I eat crab on the regular so I was anticipating them to be outstanding since everything I ate up to that point was delicious. All in all, it was a great experience and I will come back and stick to what they are known for...steak!
