Located in the land marked and newly redesigned hotel, The Evelyn, the Art Deco-inspired dining room evokes a grandeur harkening back to the gilded ago of old New-York. The design, cuisine, and service at Benno all aim to create a sense of elegance and refinement, but also fun and celebration.
Exceptional food, wine and service. These truly professional kitchen, dining, food and beverage service providers work together brilliantly....and the result is perfection in the execution of the delivery of fine dining.
Incredible food, stellar service and lovely space. I’ll be back!!
Wow!!! Unpretentious service!! World class food!! Outstanding wine choices!!
Top 3 meals of 2019. JB and team fired on all cylinders. Can't wait to return. Benno is easily one of the first restaurants in NYC. Congratulations. Barney
Absolutely fantastic service and meal - we didn’t want to leave! Compliments to the chef and Benno team. Outstanding experience at Benno and a well-deserved NY Times 3-star review.
Elegant but not stuffy restaurant with a wide range of choices in the 3, 4 or 5 item tasting menu. Excellent service and delicious food. My coddled egg with peas, favas and morels was especially good.
Tiny portions and very expensive
Excellent service, outstanding food. Go. The staff is personable and not intrusive; I wish I knew the name of the gentleman who helped with the wine — tall guy — he was terrific... and the trofie pasta was outstanding!
The food was delicious. The service beyond wonderful. Decor beautiful. It completely blew us away the experience. One guest had many restrictions and all accommodated. .
Benno is always spectacular, and this visit was no exception. The food is delicious, creative and beautifully presented, and the staff is really without equal. This is one of the great ones.
Great Art Deco room tucked away in the Evelyn Hotel.
Four star service and style but not stuffy. Food was amazing and desserts extra yummy.
Very elegant and delicious. Only slight blip in the service was our server was mistaken about our drinks.
I had a lovely time. I came in on a quiet evening on the 4th of July weekend, and I thoroughly enjoyed the exquisite food and expert service. Although this is a fine dining experience with prices to match, it is also an excellent value compared to comparable restaurants in NYC because there are flexible options depending on how many courses you would like and three courses is probably less than what you’d spend for the same number of courses at a restaurant with anything near this level of food. Cooking technique and flavor combinations on display were exceptional. I highly recommend this place.
From the moment they brought an amuse bouche of oyster coated with caviar to the rhubarb dessert, the evening was superb. Service very attentive, knowledgeable and prompt. The wine pairings from the coravin selection were exquisite. Certainly deserves the 3 stars from The NY Times.
We were last at Benno in February and many months later they have only grown in warmth, precision, elegance, and extraordinary cooking. The room is genuinely soothing without being sleepy and the well-priced cocktails allow a smooth transition into a relaxed dinner that truly lets you feel like you are away from the hustle and bustle of the city. This sense of escape and timelessness is especially welcome in a town that runs on buzz and hysteria. Benno is a major new restaurant and let's hope it's around a long time.
Benno was amazing. Sensational food, beautiful atmosphere and perfect noise level
THE SERVICE AND DECOR WAS SPOT ON. PASTA DISHES ARE THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT
Excellent menu-varied choices, all delicious. Beautiful relaxing space. Attentive but not intrusive service
Hands down the best food I've eaten all of 2019. Every course was simple and delicious. Can't wait to be back.
Excellent service, food, high attention to detail. Truly first class all around
The menu is pricey fir that ambiance
Exceeded even our highest expectations. Service, food, and wine pairings were impeccable.
As always a fabulous experience! The food is extraordinary—creative yet completely reliable, and totally delicious. The wines are superb, and knowledgeably and expertly curated. The room is a joy. And the staff is quite perfect.
The food is very good and presentation is amazing. There are many, many servers. It’s very quiet and a bit stuffy and super expensive so it’s not right for everyone.
The service is tremendously good!
We have little but praise for this sophisticated restaurant with sophisticated food. That said, there were some downsides. Nearly all our food was too salty, though the other herbs and spices were perfect. Pasta portions were too small, though the entrees were adequate. The only weak food link was dessert--the same reaction as we had had previously. I love dessert, but having it as a required course when one can choose from five course categories for a three-course meal is not attractive, especially when, say, the pasta is delicious but not so the dessert. The restaurant is too dark for our taste, and it's too loud when full, due to the hard edges of the antique tile floor (beautiful) and no apparent noise-softening material. Service was excellent, though a little too "present." With a $120 bottle of wine, tip, and tax, the tab was $425. All of that said, this restaurant is a keeper!
Outstanding food and service. Menu is creative and extremely well executed. Love Benno!
Impeccable Cuisine and Service Absolutely a delightful wine list fairly priced
A well balanced and flexible menu. Anyone should be able to put together a meal to their liking. The riff on vitello tonnato was outstanding, the halibut perfectly cooked, etc. The strawberry pre dessert was yummy, although the rhubarb dessert was too bland for three of us who ordered it. The room is adult without being stuffy. Service was top notch. Definitely worth many return visits.
My husband and I ate at Benno with another couple on a Saturday night. The service was outstanding - very attentive staff. The food was very good with lots of appealing choices. Best of all, the noise level was tolerable - a rarity in NYC these days.
The food was amazing!
Amazing service. All courses were delicious, the pasta courses being my favorite but all amazing and the perfect portion of each. Each course also well timed out. We felt very relaxed and enjoyed the entire experience.
Highly recommend! My husband and I went for a much needed long awaited date night with a baby at home. The food was superb - everything delicious and refined. I feel bad for the comis who had to de-shell all the peas but so worth it. We did the 4-course and everything was fantastic - I had the lobster and my husband the beef. The staff was great, especially the friendly bartender as we waited to be seated (we were early). Everything was timed perfectly and I appreciate that we weren’t rushed. The restaurant is beautiful - midcentury modern/Mad Men-esque. Pricey but worth it. Highly recommend.
Very understated, thought that would not be enough to eat as the portions were small.
The dinner rolls were great and made sure no one left hungry; but the food was the star, well presented and very good. With dinner for two coating North of $300 expectations were very high and for the most part they were met. Special place.
A stellar production from Jonathan Benno. One of the best places to dine in NYC: food of exceptional quality served in a civilized setting, backed by warm, efficient and unobtrusive service.
10 out of 10. The tiniest of quibbles: I would add slightly more ice cream to the babka dessert. Without question a sensational dining experience.
We absolutely loved our meal. We visit NYC from San Francisco every year and had enjoyed several dinners at Lincoln over the past few years, so we’re eager to experience Benno. My husband and I each ordered a four-course menu. All dishes were outstanding: oysters, abalone, garganelli, trifurcation, sea bass, lamb, chocolate babka and pear with ricotta — wonderful preparations all! Our server also chose perfect wine pairings. We shall return for sure!
Food and service incredible. Jonathan Benno is a food genius!
The service was excellent. We would have preferred a few more dessert choices.
The food was very very good and the staff was extremely accommodating and professional
The room is somewhat casual but you get to like that.
Best of all besides the staff, was the low noise level and lovely background music.
