Our guests are seated at a communal hibachi grill tables in groups, where your personal chef will perform the ancient art of Teppanyaki. Foster City/San Mateo location food service is as good as in Burlingame. The only downside is FC/SMO does not have the ocean view. :)

Food was ok, service was great! Cook was not as entertaining or interactive with table. Chicken fried rice could be better. It was lacking flavor.

Servers were wonderful. Food delicious. We all ordered from the Lunch menu. The Lunch Box so we didn't have Hibachi food. The Lunch Box was so good.

This location is relatively new and this is my first time at this Benihana's. That being said, I have been to many Benihana's locations and most frequently, the one in Burlingame, CA. Here's my experience at this new San Mateo, CA location: 1) I arrived very early for my 6:00pm reservation and was very happy that my party was seated very quickly. 2) The waitress was very friendly and checked on us frequently, often refilling our drinks and asking if we wanted anything else. 3) The chef was very polite but it was obvious that he lacked experience, as compared to the other chefs I've seen at the different Benihana's. Regardless, he cooked our food properly but just wasn't as entertaining as I have become accustomed to. Looking around at the other tables, I can see those chefs were of similar experience. That all being said, this my experience here was overall very good and I will definitely return.

Made a reso for 7:00 but not seated until 7:40. They need to manage their reservation book a little better. Clearly overbooked given the number of people waiting

Reservation for Fathers Day, I get it, it’s busy…. I even booked a later time. 45 -50 minute wait with a reservation tells me they are still working on cycling the dining room. A lot of work needed there. Everyone was waiting, lots of grumbling in the lobby. Had I known we’d wait that long I would have booked it for 4:30pm & maybe hit the nail on the head. Instead we left after 9pm LOL
