Dine and relax in the 9,498-square-foot restaurant, located in the Promenade at Downey. This restaurant includes a sushi bar, cocktail lounge and expansive dining area. Guests looking for a unique and entertaining culinary experience can take a seat at one of the restaurant’s 19 teppanyaki tables, where chefs will show off their world-famous hibachi tricks. Typically. My latest trip was Horrible. Service was beyond horrible and even when reported to the Manager nothing improved nor did the manager come back by to check on the table. Multiples tables arrived after ours yet were completely fed and gone before our food was even completed.

Our chef was great he had a very positive attitude and very friendly. Unfortunately Our food server just took our order and wasn't anywhere to be found after. I ordered a margarita and it took forever to get. I wanted to order another one and had to flag someone else down so I could get it. Then I had to wait almost until our check was brought to receive my drink. I felt rushed to drink it. The only good experience was the chef.

The food was great the chef was nice and so was the waiter, however we felt rushed because we were the last party of the night. We asked for sauce and they didn’t give it to us till almost the end after we asked for it. We just didn’t like the fact that we felt rushed because we were the last ones there. The soup we got at the beginning wasn’t even hot it taste like it was sitting out for some time.

Server was new or inexperienced and made several mistakes which made us wait longer for appetizers and food to be cooked. The food had too much salt and pepper, the cooks do not cook consistently even though the food is very flavorful especially with the garlic butter.

My date and I had the the filet migon 5 course meal. The food was ok. Wasn't the greatest. The 5 course meal included french onion soup (delicious) small salad, hibachi chicken rice (pretty good) veggies (decent), hibachi shrimp (good, but could have gotten more than 2 pieces) and the filet migon (pretty decent).
The place was loud and we sat with another family which one of their kids was crying once in a while (bearable to some point). For what we paid, we could have gotten a lot more. Didn't seem fancy or anything. We paid $82 plus a $16 tip which totaled out to $98. Was it worth that much money? No, not really. I think people go because of the experience of watching a chef make your food. There are other restaurants far better than Benihana. Panda Inn is one of them and far less expensive. Black Angus is far better and less expensive.
Overall...experience was cool, but would not come back again.

Overall great experience although the bartender could be a little more attentive. Had kelonnie as our cook he was great and cooked the food perfectly.

The girl at the front desk must have been having a bad day. She acted irritated but that has nothing to do with my review rating.

The food was delicious! The chef was slightly entertaining. The service was outstanding. All of that keeps us coming back for more! Thank you.

It is really loud in the restaurant. Not the people but it may be the venting system. If they put some sound absorbing material up it would be better

Love Benihana but don’t necessarily recommend this location. As we were waiting to be seated I saw two people go into the restaurants that looked like employees. When our table was ready sure enough one of them called us. After we checked in with him, he said he would seat us but then proceeded to walk around the restaurant to gather other people for our table. We weren’t sure if he expected us to follow him or what, but we did. In doing so we quickly realized he was still calling our name, I had to tell him three different times that we were that party. Not sure if he was coming back from drinks on that break or what...?! Finally sat ordered and everything was good. Our chef confirmed our orders and how we wanted our meat cooked, when I thought to myself it seemed as though he was giving me a different cut of meat than what I ordered. I asked my friend who I was with if the other cut of meat was supposed to be the filet we had ordered and he thought what the chef was cooking for us was correct, I didn’t think twice about it then. For some reason the next day I googled it and sure enough he had given us the wrong meat! Unfortunately I paid more for my meal that it turns out I didn’t actually eat, I ate a less expensive cut. I knew it was wrong and should have spoken up then, so that’s my fault. Overall just not the best experience. I would go to a different location in the future.

I have been a long time customer to Anaheim and Torrance location. I decided to try this location last minute. First they seated us at the wrong table. Next I ordered an old fashion which tasted like a fireball. The drink had no orange slice or maraschino cherries. They asked 3 times what we were celebrating. Its an early bday dinner treat for myself. The 5 people that were seated with us was also celebrating 2 birthdays. At the end they brought out 2 ice creams that was lit for the other party and forgot about me. The other party was nice enough to address that it was also my birthday. The waitress apologize and asked if I wanted whipped cream added to my ice cream. I wanted to tell her that I do not care about no whipped cream. I come from a family that owns 7 donut shops. We listen to our customers and are attentive. Long story short terrible customer service.

My family and I have registered for chefs table and last 3 years we dont receive birthday card or email and i have emailed several times. Was just there for my sons bday and they wouldnt honor it. Im done celebrating our bdays in this establishment

But I’d tell them it’s loud and may take awhile to be seated and served just our drinks. It was a Monday night. we waited an hour just to get seated and another 30min for sake and a beer. Our chef and waitress were good otherwise...

I had made reservation for 12 people on line and the confirmation email said only for 2. I called and there was not more reservations. Manager was able to squeeze me in for 8 PM. We had 3 children and one baby and it was very though to wait for so lont. After we were seated it took long time to get the food. They accomodated us because more people showed up but overall the prize was way too high for a family with children. The food was ok!

We have been going to Benihana’s for many years and different locations, this was by far the worst service we have ever gotten! It took over 40 min to get just water, the waiter didn’t even bring my cocktail. I had to mention to our actual waitress over an hour later that I never got it. Horrible service, our check was also incorrect!

I have been going to Benihana’s for over 25 years in Torrance and this year I decided to change and try the Downey Resturant. The Downey Resturant is terrible from the manager down to the waitress. I watch the team of mangers degrade a customer over a dispute about not enough chicken in her rice. At the end of the complaint she had been talked down to and treated like a second class citizen. I was embarrassed for the young lady. Your black manager should be ashamed of herself treating the young black female like she was not a paying customer. I am 100% sure that if a White customer had complained about their rice she would have offered something for their troubles. The ghetto cook said Hell Yea so many times I was sick of him at the end of my dinner. And to top my birthday off I had to watch your manger a guy throw the black female customer out of the Resturant and told her never to come back again. You need to pull the tape of this day and fire everyone of your employees. I am looking to call the state of California and make a claim against your Resturant for discrimination.

I've visit this establisment before so I expect the same service and experience. But to my surprise it was not. I was disappoint with the service time..customer service in the bar was ver poorly. It was my husband b-day and he didn't get the benihannas b-day theme song. I guess our server was not able to gather 3 quick servers...( it was not busy at all this nite either). Then my server lie to me...when I ask him many times to removed an item I did not want. He still left it on my bill. Plus I had first time guest to your location or benihannas at all. I mean its little meaningful things but when you are paying $$$ 30 to 50 per plate you except great customer service.

Orders were mixed the chef was confused my daughter didn't get her white rice till we were done eating. My husband asked for butter to dip his lobster in and the chef threw the cold butter on top of his plate... overall experience wasn't good and chicken fried rice was hard

I have been a fan of Benihana since I was a kid so when this location opened up I was super happy to have a Benihana close to home. After coming here the first few times I was so disappointed and was not going to return to this location. I gave this location one last chance and that was when Kelonnie was our chef! He is the saving grace for my return to this location. If you go to Benihana - Downey make sure you request him as your chef and you will have a phenomenal experience!!

It was bad. Worst Benihana location we been to since we been doing a our Benihana Birthdays since 1990. Never trying Downey location again.
