Not really impressed. Stuffy attitudes from waiters. Food was fair and nothing special. Food was tasteful and presented well but the portions were small. Asked for a minor mod and was quoted a $50 charge. Won’t try this place again.
Not-bad Italian food but at this price point it should be a bit better. An autumn salad was flavorful and well-dressed but a few dollars more than it should have been. An also-expensive pappardelle lacked seasoning and the "brown butter" flavor was all but absent. A nice cocktail and a soothing space are pluses.
Portions are small for price. Had to return a dish to the kitchen. Completely inedible piece of fish. You couldn’t even cut into it. No manager came by the table to apologize. For one app, one cocktail and three pasta dishes, I’ll be taking my $165 elsewhere next time.
One of the best meals I ever had in the Boston area. The service was outstanding.
food was delicious, appetizer and main course. the servers would very knowledgeable and personable.
The pasta is out of this world, and the wine list is also incredible. The desserts though, too good. Service is excellent, one of my favorite restaurants in Boston!
I went here on a Sunday with my mom as a special treat. The service from beginning to end was outstanding. The ambiance and decor was fancy, but not snobby. We ordered the insalata, two vegetarian pasta dishes - one with pesto and green beans and one with mushrooms - and shared the halibut. We paired our meal with a glass of wine each. The pasta was the highlight for us. We both enjoyed the halibut, but it wasn't as outstanding as the pasta. We were too stuffed for dessert, but we hope to try it next time.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a date, a special occasion, or a night out with a group of ladies (a nice opportunity to dress up).
One of the best overall dining experiences available in Boston or Cambridge.
I went to Benedetto to celebrate my birthday! I’ve been there many times before and it is always wonderful. Great service, great wine, and great food.
The desserts we ordered were especially beautiful.
Pasta dishes were AMAZING! Plenty of vegetarian options. I wanted to taste all of them. Great service, wonderful food looking forward to going back!
I had trouble figuring out if I was actually eating swordfish. It was flat, hard, and overcooked.
Great ambiance, styling of the restaurant and service
Love it! The service is always spectacular and the food is fantastic!
Great cocktails! Service was excellent. The food was good, but not stellar. When the check arrived, we had sticker shock. I had the chicken liver appetizer (two slices of crostini smeared w/liven) seemed quite small next to octopus appetizer my partner had. I had the duck totelini and he had the beef and for dessert I had the blueberry crumble while he had the chocolates. Everything was edible, nothing to complain about, but given the high cost of the meal, I can't say I'd be quick to return.
Terrible food presentation and not at the taste quality expected
This was my first dinner at Benedetto but I am sure It will not be the last!
I loved the food and presentation.
Our waiter Rayan was great ! He recommended a nice red to accompany a duck dish which was a special that night and tasted amazing.
The whole atmosphere at the restaurant was so nice and relaxing. Great martini too :)
Something has changed since the last time I was here. Used to be that the food in this sister restaurant to Giulia was comparable, albeit a tad more conservative. This time, though, food was bland, overcooked and thoroughly not worth the prices charged. Not going again.
Delicious meal at Benedetto. First time here, saw the photo at check in and HAD to try the bolognese!! Everything we ordered was great. Service was excellent.
We had a very nice meal here. The food was good, but did not seem exceptional in any way. I have had better meals at a couple of other nearby places. The prices are quite high, the setting is classy and the service was good. One of our dishes came out significantly undercooked and had to be sent back (which we rarely ever do). It was brought back out 5-10 minutes later and was good, but the rest of us had eaten for a bit and no real compensation was made or offered for this. Again, good place overall and good food, but not sure if I would return given the price and the other options available.
Food was just average. A bit disappointing especially for the price. Service was good and friendly. Would not hurry back.
Excellent service wait staff was attentive and pleasant!
Benedetto serves consistently wonderful food. Our party of four had different dishes, all of them delicious. I particularly liked my fettuccini in a kind of carbonara preparation. It's an upscale version of Giulia's, and somewhat more luxurious, but the food is right up there, which is saying something.
Benedetto is a really excellent restaurant that deserves more positive acclaim. Sophisticated dining in Cambridge, MA. Michael has a success on his hands.
This was our second visit to Benedetto. The first time the food was excellent. We've also had good luck at sister restaurant Giulia. My food was perfect--great appetizer, and my halibut was cooked perfectly. My wife received swordfish that was much too cool temperature wise, and the accompanying potato was greasy. She didn't want to send the fish back, because the microwave would create its own problems. But she left dissatisfied. That said, we'll probably be back.
We had a wonderful experience at Benedetto. Our party of 7 enjoyed their appetizers, main courses and desserts. The restaurant made a special effort with lovely mini-cupcakes for the birthday of one of our party! The service was terrific. The restaurant acoustics aren’t great and so since it’s a lively, loud restaurant it made cross table conversation a bit difficult but we all had a great time. Definitely recommend.
This place is a must visit. The food was authentic and fresh, service was great, and the wine selection was fantastic. We have a few different crostinis, dried meats and cheeses, and pasta dishes. We loved everything and will definitely be returning again soon.
21st birthday! Great time
Amazing food and great service.
Wine list is, also, fantastic.
The restaurant was flexible to our change in group size, which I appreciate.
The food was mediocre but our server was great.
It's certainly a pleasant restaurant. Nice room, decent food, diligent staff. The food itself is adequate, and there's no place better in Harvard Square. Nothing really to write home about, but fine before a show at Scullers, across the river, and not a place to go ever as the focus of an evening. There are two chief drawbacks to the food. It doesn't have much depth of flavor, meaning that the first bite tastes the same as all the next bites and that first bite is just OK. The second drawback is that there are way too many ingredients on each plate, meaning that flavors are muddied. The chicken liver crostini, for example, came with wilted, inedible parsley. The pasta dish had about six ingredients, none were remarkable. The kitchen hides behind busy plates to mask the inferiority of what's there: The fish, the pasta, the vegetables. Still, I'll be back since, as noted, there's no place better in Harvard Square. Mind, the experience for two, with tax, tip, and two drinks each was $160.
Lovely evening, tasty dishes, great service, elegant yet relaxed atmosphere, very good simplicity on the plate.
Four of us went for a special occasion . We sat outside which was lovely...quiet, pleasant. Service was excellent. Caring and attentive but not intrusive . Wine recommendation was also outstanding ...Sicilian Red. The pasta was excellent . The main courses were very good. Veal was a little tough and over cooked although flavors excellent . Halibut good but unremarkable . Mousse dessert was very good as well . I would go back .
Everything was excellent. Our service was attentive, responsive, helpful, and friendly. We sat on the patio which faces a courtyard, that made for a pleasant evening without street noise. But the food was the real star. Insalata verde was very simple—greens, ricotta, herbed croutons and red vinegar—but very flavorful. Their very light touch with the vinegar allowed the flavor of the greens to dominate. The chicken liver mousse crostini was absolutely to die for! Intensely flavorful, it is the best chicken liver I have ever eaten. The entree, wild striped bass ravioli was exquisite. The pasta was fresh and delicious and the bass really shone through. All0in-all a wonderful dining experience.
We had a wonderful dinner at Benedetto. Both the service and the food were excellent. We sat in the outside area, overlooking the courtyard, quiet ambiance, soft jazz music playing. Our waitress Christine was friendly and helpful with both the preparations and wine selection. Prices very fair for the excellent value.
We had another wonderful meal here. Everything was excellent, and the striped bass ravioli was extraordinary. Service is excellent, the room is beautiful. Lots of interesting Harvard U characters at adjoining tables.
Food temperature was tepid to cold
Service was slow
Room was too loud
Great Italian. Always consistent. Creative cuisine.
Great selection of veggies, pastas to meat and fish.
Save room for dessert, always creative and delicious.
Chicken liver is a very good appetizer.
Sea bass pasta was amazing.
Meat sauce, Bolognese pasta great and rich taste.
Cod fish with greens was light and tasty.
Love going to this restaurant especially after a long drive to Cambridge and staying at the Charles Hotel.... no need looking for a nice place to dine. The last few times I was there , I recall at least 2 no meat entree options, this time there was only one . That particular pesto entree was Ok, not great..... please add more no meat options to your menu!
Benedetto offers a good Italian cuisine, without pretense and pomposity. It is in sharp contrast with 95% of other so called " Italian" restaurants in the Boston/Cambridge area.
It reflects authenticity to a certain degree, without much re-inventing old recipes.
It respects and tries to follow recipes that characterize the culinary history of Italy.
