I had a great time at the dinner, a lot of food and drink so it was a good value as well as very delicious . Would definitely do this again!
Great staff and great food! We will be back!
This is a fun restaurant, connected to a craft beer location. We enjoyed a cheese platter and a flight of different craft beers. The pizzas are good and also a tuna and salman tartar dish was delicious. Lots of activity from the open kitchen and waiters going between the restaurant and been room next door. We will come back again!
The menu is limited and on the expensive side. The noise level is high. Wait staff was good.
Don't think we will go back.
Everything was out of this world…highly recommend
I called the restaurant 3 times in one day for various reasons. Kelsey answered the phone every time. She was extremely helpful and patiently took care of my requests & questions which I greatly appreciated. So my first impression was very positive.
The mini buttery breadsticks addicting. We had the clothesline bacon & the roasted carrot & Brussel sprouts with sriracha honey for appetizers. Both were delicious & highly recommended. I had the Branzino which was cooked perfectly, family members had the salmon & skirt steak. We all enjoyed our entrees.
We would definitely return. The adjoining Tap Room/ Beach Haus menu had a lot of intriguing items that we want to try as well.
We liked this place and would return again.
Our waiter Ivan did a good job. We had the bacon app and shared the filet mignon entrée. The drinks were very good and they had some nicely priced wine bottles.
Next time we hope to sit in the main dining area, as opposed to the bar area.
Overall - the food was pretty good but overpriced. The service was unimpressive- waiter showed up
to deliver food and the bill. Very lackluster performance- there were lots of people working in the place so no excuse for his failure to check up on our table. If you are paying $45 for a piece of meat - the waiter should swing by to ask if it’s cooked to your liking. The menu didn’t offer a lot of variety- corn ( seasonal) featured predominantly in several dishes. The accompaniment to the filet mignon was a stone cold ( was it meant to be served hot?) corn and cherry tomato mixture. My pasta had the saMe corn/ tomato ingredients with pesto over v al dente pasta. Our shared appetizer lobster dumplings were small and a bit chewy. Pricey at $4 per piece. Cookie ice cream sliders were nice. Noise level was high. The room looked like a converted warehouse. All in all it was OK but not likely to make me want to return.
Good food. Ambiance so-so. (Maybe because they sat us right under the air conditioner).
We’ve been meaning to try this place and glad we finally made it! I couldn’t visualize where it was. Tucked upstairs off to the side of the Beach House Brewery. I liked the ambiance. We had the bacon appetizer; skirt steak and the cavatelli. All were great. Definitely will be back.
Like most david burke experiences, creative good good on a nice setting
Ambience and service was fantastic, but the food was “eh” at best. Appetizer of lobster dumplings was really very good, app of salmon ceviche wasn’t too bad, but we both got steaks (filet mignon and skirt) and they were just average at best. We didn’t even take leftovers. Also, I’m all about a local menu but the overuse of corn was a little bit much. A lot much, actually. We probably had 2 ears of corn on our plates and really nothing else. For around 80/pp I’d expect a little bit more on the plate than literally a pile of undercooked corn with an over cooked steak on top of it. I won’t go back to this one. I’m going to the East Brunswick DB restaurant soon and I’ve heard it’s also hit or miss so hopefully I get *that* one on a good night.
I'm not accustomed to a $25. piece of chicken, no sides or salad included.
One drink, two entrees, one side, and one dessert was $140 with tip.
Chef Chris was amazing !! And so is everyone else there— thanks Wendy and Jay
A few things, when we ordered water (just regular tap) we ended up getting bottled water at $6 a pop without being told until we saw it on the bill. So an upcharge there.
Then I ordered a bourbon, neat. On the menu it was $15. I got the bill and there was a $2 upcharge. So i asked the manager what was the upcharge for and he told me it was for getting it neat. So i asked if I got it on the rocks, then what. He said there was an upcharge for that too. So any way I got my bourbon there is an “upcharge”. He said if I ordered a mixed drink then and only then would it be the price on the menu. I told him that there are only two ways people get good bourbon, neat or on the rocks and both have upcharges. Why not just put the price at $17 so people arent fooled by a wrong price. His answer was that is how David Burke restaurants all do it.
So food was good but this place is upcharge central!! Btw it’s
not about the $2 it’s about principal and being up front with paying customers. We all have options as to where we dine and this one will no longer be on my list.
2nd visit.. consistently delicious!!❤️😋
Adorable. Great service. Food was delicious
Not cheap, NYC bistro pricing, but well executed food, with the exception of an expensive skinny skirt steak that had too much cheap vinegar in the chimichurri sauce. Apps were great., as were cocktails, terrific burgers, solid server, and comfortable enough wood furnishings. Try the innovative beer cocktails, and Burke’s signature high wire bacon.
Drinks did not arrive for 30 minutes, after we had finished appetizers!!! Restaurant is short-staffed and it shows. Waiters try and avoid eye contact because they are overwhelmed or untrained? Our waiter explained that there was only one bartender this the wait but no apology or other gesture.
They offer tap or sparking water but don’t explain either choice results in $6 charge per bottle. Feels chintzy and would appreciate at least informing me of the charge. If water is a paid beverage put it on menu vs offering like it was free at 99% of other restaurants in US. This is not Europe.
Food was a bit oily, sweet and otherwise bland. Expected more from a place like this. Flavors did not pop with freshness.
Everything was excellent. Had the lobster dumplings, hipster fries, burrata salad, and angry lobster pizza. Everything was delicious. Great atmosphere and cocktail menu.
Excellent service and food! Delicious beer choices!!
Cheese plate, lobster dumplings, lobster pizza were amazing!
We are so happy to hear you enjoyed your experience! You will have to come again soon to try our other delicious menu items.
Great appetizers, my steak seemed like it was totally unseasoned. While it was very tender, it almost seemed like someone forget to season it. Just a little salt and pepper would be great. A little expensive, but overall, very good.
Good food and service. The expo window was a bit backed up. With seemingly no one wanting to run food.. So
I waited to order as I had an App on the way..
Food was well prepared and presented as one would expect at a Burkes place.
They could do with some desert wines and some more
Coffee knowledge. A coffee noisette, cortado etc is not a carmel cappuccino..
But all in all, worthy of future visits. Possibly further guidance by David..
From the greeting through the final service for our drinks and food the service was excellent. The food was excellent as well.
As to value, the flatbread was tasty but I felt over priced. Especially since there was no other option for bread. And, a one or two other items on the menu were slightly overpriced.
The noise level was deafening. The warehouse architectural design with no additional material to soften or absorb the noise made it very difficult to even have a conversation with your dinner partner. Seems to be the trend!!
First visit was great. Second average at best as they were completely understaffed. Orders missed, food cold. We decide to give it another try and all was great. We will be back!
Overall, this place is WAY too expensive for the experience you receive. It’s small, loud and has a strong beachy vibe. Cute but extremely casual - it’s attached to the Beach Haus brewery and has the same vibe. The wine list is mediocre. I had the lobster ravioli appetizer which was fine. Nothing special about that dish. For my entree, I had the skirt steak. The plate was so hot that it burned my fingers which means it was sitting under a heat lamp for a while which is strange because there was a long bit of time between my appetizer and entree. The steak was quite salty. The corn succotash was uninspired. I also ordered a side of asparagus which was bland and way over cooked. I didn’t order a dessert because there was nothing too exciting on the menu. Overall, the meal was fine but for the price it was entirely underwhelming.
Seated quickly with reservations. Nice sp
Really nice establishment to dine in Belmar. From start to finish the service was friendly, professional and warm. They have a casual side with outdoor seating and another side that serves more interesting culinary dishes like branzino, salmon, tuna and steak. I decided on the cavatelli dish. It was a new additional to the menu. It was served with lightly sautéed tomatoes and fresh corn kernels. Very light and tasty. They have a very nice wine and draft beer list, in additional to a nice selection of delicious looking craft cocktails. I ordered the "best damn GT". It was so good!
Overall, you can't go wrong here. Looking forward to exploring more of the menu and enjoying another experience.
Thank you for your review! We are so happy to hear you enjoyed your meal. You will have to try some of our other delicious menu offerings during your next visit. We look forward to seeing you again soon!
lobster dumplings lobster pizza and salmon were good. shoshito peppers lacked taste, tuna dinner was poor. hunk of tuna on top of noodles missing braised cabbage. some peanuts thrown and some slices of apple and carrot. tuna hunk not even some teriyaki sauce or some flavor. mouse cake had 3 almonds just sticking in side. i will try again, but disappointed.
Enjoyable experience. The food & service were excellent.
David Burke is a hero in what he does for communities in NewJersey. From Rahway to South Orange and south to Belmar, he takes communities that have never seen a chef with such a pedigree and blesses them with his modern Jeremiah Tower-like acumen. Like many restaurants some are more successful than others. Belmar Kitchen is a fantastic idea in a great location and a beautiful room that misses the mark due to lack of management and supervision from a kitchen and back of the house perspective. Mistakes with cadence and service that were avoidable with proper training came to the fore and are evident in other reviews. Our experience was a reservation we were made to wait for because a table wasn’t cleared ahead of our arrival. Seated, the server took our drink order, which took 3x longer to come than it should have. Drinks were perfect. Order placed immediately. Appetizers took 2x longer. Waiting for entrees to arrive which took 2x longer to come than they should. Steak was perfect. Salmon slightly overcooked. One burger was perfect. The other wasn’t even rare but was raw when ordered medium. Asked for it to be remade. They brought it to table ten minutes later w the same bites takes out of it as when brought back to kitchen. I was shocked they would consider this an acceptable solution given today’s pandemic world we are in. Brought to managers attention and asked that it be taken off bill. Only then did service show up and they offered dessert in the house but by then it was too late and we were too far gone. Would really like this business to succeed so do give them a shot and I hope you have a better experience than we did. If they were in Asbury Park you wouldn’t get a same night reservation like we did. It has tremendous potential and with more oversight this four month old establishment will be a shining star and destination restaurant at the shore.
Way too noisy
Service is the biggest miss at DB restaurants. Also there is too much overlap amongst his 3 NJ locations. Yes location and decoration are different but noise level and menu items are similar. I’d like them each to have their own personality while maintaining chefs specialties .
David Burke never disappoints! This restaurant is a hidden gem. Energetic ( a bit loud) and fun atmosphere. The food was delicious. We had some flatbread, salmon, and the skirt steak. Everything was so good! The service was also very good. We will definitely be coming back!
While the food was amazing I was disappointed with the size potions on some of the meals we ordered. Also there seemed to be an upcharge for everything with no notice. We were charged for our drinks to be straight up and also for water that I hadn't asked for. Originally I was asked if I wanted sparkling or still water and j said still then corrected myself and say regular water from a tap and when the bottle of still came over I double checked that it was regular water and was told yes so at the end I saw the charge for the still and the charge for our vodka just 5o be poured in a glass. I said something to the waiter who collected our plates who was not our waitress but nothing was said. Just a nod and he moved on. The food was tasty but I won't rush back.
Really great experience. Food, drinks and service were all excellent!
We are big fans of David Burke’s restaurants and this was our first time at this location. His restaurants never disappoint with food or service. We will be back!!!
The food and drinks were on point, great mix of seafood and meats. Lobster pizza was incredible. I loved the open concept of the restaurant. It was fun to see the kitchen staff making everything.
