Perfect. Every time.
Everything was wonderful from the food to the staff. However the chairs are very uncomfortable.
So good. our server and bartender were great! We had the burger and the brisket sandwich and I loved them both.
Really interesting menu...we went for lunch and glad we had a reservation because every table was full, so it is obviously a popular lunch spot. I had the beet burger, which was unusual, but good...my lunch companions had a salad which had so much kale the rest of the ingredients were overwhelmed. ..they felt the salad was good, although not great. If you are looking for something a bit different, but good quality and good service, I'd certainly recommend it.
Extremely knowledgable staff
Great lunch spot
Love the Friday special!
Best downtown dining !
Big fans of Black Sheep so we tried this place. Food was excellent; Korean chicken sandwich with fried broccoli, BLT with lots of bacon, and tomato bisque soup with crispy kale. Soup was delicious! Service was team concept and was good and friendly. Definitely would go back here and try dinner.
Great downtown restaurant for lunch or dinner. Try the killer Cuban called the Medianoche with a side of fried Korean broccoli!
Great vibe. Shrimp and grits were oversold and under-described as the grits were actually more like heavy corn-based pancake . Not good. Loved my sheepshead ‘catch of the day’ preparation particularly after I received a second bok choy side that was hot/warm throughout. I am on salt restricted diet and should have remembered to remind our server of this as the soy juice was a little too salty for me. My fault. I liked the wine list and the prices. Service was attentive. The atmosphere/vibe was impressive.I thught I was somewhere much large/ cosmopolitan than JAX!
I had been looking forward to dining here for several months. Wish I had known in advance how disappointing it would be. Finally had the chance before going to a show at the Times Union. So happy to see such a trendy restaurant in downtown and nearly table full. The food was good, although I could not get what I really wanted because they were out before 7:00 on a Saturday night.
Our service was TERRIBLE! We were seated right away with a reservation, then waited nearly 15 minutes before someone brought over water. She told us our waiter would be there soon, but it wasn’t until we flagged down a hostess and informed her of our long wait that he finally came over. He did not introduce himself, and did not apologize until sometime later in the evening that we had to wait so long to be served. It took another 15 minutes for him to bring our drinks. We saw him only twice during the dinner. I ordered a second glass of wine with dinner that never came, and when he realized that he had never brought it until I was finished with my entree and then declined when he asked if I still wanted it, I’m pretty sure he sighed and rolled his eyes!
Some of the pricing on the menu is a bit misleading, and I’m sorry, but if it’s going to cost nearly $100 for a couple to eat in a restaurant, I think the wait staff should show up wearing something other than a stretched out neck tee-shirt with a pocket logo. Maybe ditch the ear mics and get some collared shirts.
It's a great place to go if you are going to the theater...but if not going to the theater...there are plenty of other restaurants to go to instead.
We went for a pre theater meal so we’re a little rushed. Entrees were good and the wine of the day ($20 a bottle!) was excellent. Will definitely go again when we can have a more leisurely dinner.
A nice trendy place with great food and service. We enjoyed the Poutine, and our entrees were well prepared, properly seasoned and delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed the Gnocchi and my gal had the salmon. Both were very good. Our server was great, and the cocktails were delicious. I would easily come back and dine again whenever attending a downtown event or for a business lunch.
A nice find in Jax! Wow. The server, Devoy (sp?), was superb, really. I will be back and with others!
Pleasantly surprised for downtown Jacksonville. Will definitely return. Good food, good value.
I took my daughters to eat here before a performance at Times Union. The girls liked their meals as much as I did. Great service and great food!
Fun atmosphere, friendly staff, quick service. We don’t live in town but if we did we would be back! Very reasonable prices for the food.
Bellwhether is the sister restaurant to two of Jacksonville's outstanding dining experiences, Black Sheep and Orsay. They are all farm to table with creative menus very well done. Bellwhether's atmosphere is a little cold for me (uptown metro/retro) but the food and service are top notch. The mushroom bisque is to die for and their salads are fresh and creative. The duck, salmon, hangar steak are top drawer. The restaurant is a little pricey for my budget (entrees +/- $26) (my wife and I spent $100 with cocktails) but you can get a good meal (bowl of soup and salad) for $20 or so.
A great place to go before a show downtown and they've got a special "going to a show" three course menu for $29 that assures faster service to help you on your way. One of the best martinis in town.
Originally we had a reservation for 4, but I called and let them know we had a 5th person joining us and they were able to accommodate that need. Our server was tentative and made excellent food choices. And the hostess made our welcome very warm, even with how cold the weather was. I highly recommend anyone to try this amazing spot.
Return visitor. Went there pre theatre. There's a special menu with appetizer and main course that seems to be a good bargain at 29.95 a person for pre theatre. My companion had the short rib which was excellent. I had the salmon which was cooked to perfection (most places overcook fish) and had a lemon beurre blanc sauce. Outstanding. Cocktails and wine selection are also done very nicely and service is attentive yet not overbearing. Will definitely go again.
We ate here before going to the hear the symphony at the Performing Arts Center. It is an easy walk from the Omni garage where we usually part for the symphony. Ours was a party of 5. Our table was ready when we arrived. Service was excellent and knowledgeable. Decor is understated modern and conducive to comfortable dining. We sampled a number of dishes from the menu, including two desserts. A number of the appetizer choices are nice takes on Southern classics and the ones we tried were executed well (Johnny cakes and boiled peanuts). There were no mis-hits for anything we tried. In particular, we found our entree treatments to be both creative and well-conceived. The wine list includes 4 port wines, with an outstanding 10 year tawny. There are a number of good beers on draft. This is an excellent restaurant we will be patronizing in the future since we regularly are downtown for the symphony.
We had tickets for a show at The Florida Theater so we decided we would give Bellwether a try for dinner. We are glad we did! Madeline was our server. She has a wonderful personality and is well versed in both her food menu and wine list. I have not had better service in quite some timed. We ordered the pear and goat cheese salad. Wonderful!
Could have a bit more goat cheese though. Hanger steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned. More than adequate portion size. The snapper special was simply divine. Prepared Thai style with jasmine rice, bok choy, kimchee, and a tasty broth. Wonderful job Chef! Thank you Madeline for the service!
Our waitress was great!!! I've been to Bellwether several times and it's never been disappointing. Each time our wait staff has been great, energetic, and personable. This place is WAY better than Black Sheet.
Get the korean fried broccoli app -- it's da best!!!
We are Delicious food and had great service! I will definitely return.
service very prompt and delicious gluten free options
We selected this restaurant before a show at The Florida Theater. Orsay and Black Sheep are two of our favorite restaurants in Jacksonville. Bellwether meets their standard for service and flavor. They had my husband's favorite Cab, which the name escapes me, but is hard to find. The Bees Knees was rightfully named. The special Theater menu was perfect. My appetizer, the korean fried broccoli, was amazing. I generally like broccoli, although my husband is not a fan. Even he had to admit it was divine. He won the entree taste off with delectable shrimp and grits. The short ribs were low on flavor, but the sauce and fried okra made up for it. We ended with a cappuccino and a light pudding of some sort. I wish I remembered the name - it had crisped rice and berries. Delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant for a tasty meal with remarkable service before the theater.
Four of us had an early dinner at Bellwether on Saturday night before a show at the Moran Theater. The restaurant is conveniently located 2 blocks from the theater at 100 Laura Street.
We arrived during happy hour which included $4 wine and $3 drafts.
I ordered the Catch of the day ($27), Yellowtail from Mayport, served with coconut jasmine rice, baby bok choy, oyster mushroom, house kimchi in a thai broth. This dish was also gluten free. The yellow tail was sauteed perfectly, both moist and melts in your mouth.
The thai broth was fantastic and complemented the excellent mushrooms, Kimchi, Bok choy and rice. The portions were adequate for my 225 lb appetite. It was well worth the price.
The rest of our party had appetizers for dinner including the excellent Korean fried broccoli($7), fried shrimp cakes($10) and the smashed cucumber salad($8). The smashed Cucumber salad with the dill and whipped feta was particularly outstanding.
Our server, Maddie?, was very attentive but never rushed us. She and the rest of the staff made our dining experience very pleasant. Our waters were always full and our drink orders were taken and delivered on a timely basis.
This was our second time pre-show dining at Bellwether. the restaurant was relatively empty when we arrived at 5:30 but was packed at 6:30 when we left for our show. This little gem downtown deserves another visit.
A restaurant employee called to confirm our reservation and let us know that valet was available and complimentary. This was a great first impression. The wait staff ways knowledgeable and made good recommendations for our entire party. The entree’s were plated in an appealing manner. Our drinks were filled appropriately. The plates were also cleared in a timely manner. Dessert and drinks were a nice way to end our meal.
My wife and I had an amazing experience at Bellwether. Very cool atmosphere, great service, and the food was incredible. We had the Fried Broccoli app, Catch of the Day, Hanger Steak, and Choco-Taco dessert. Highly recommend Bellwether to any local or visiting foodies...
The food was just good. Nothing special.
Service was good. The chairs are uncomfortable. The space is very noisy.
Nothing remarkable about the restaurant.
Great lunch and service with covered outside seating. One of my go-to places downtown for lunch.
I’ve been to Bellwether several times and it never disappoints. The food and service are exceptional. The vegetarian options, although not abundant, are awesome. The quality of the seasonal ingredients is always the best. Taelynn is a great server, she can answer any question and is great with recommendations.
First time and quality all the way with service and meal flavor and presentation.
The food was very good and used ingredients in a creative way. The atmosphere is probably better for lunch than dinner All hard surfaces, so can be very noisy. We were there for dinner and it was not that crowded. But if it was crowded, the noise level would not be conducive to conversation.
A great place to eat. Excellent food / bar/service.
The best burger in town- hands down !!
Great location- right across the street from Bank of America tower lobby on Forsyth St
Good, not great. The environment is nice, the wait staff was excellent, but the food was just OK. It was artfully plated and presented well, but at the price point they operate at the flavors need to be deep, rich and amazing. Unfortunately, the flavors were just OK. AT half the price the meal would have been very nice.
Four of us had dinner before the symphony. As requested in our reservation, we were seated in the backroom viewing all the fun animal paintings. My husband and I took advantage of the $29 two-course per-concert menu. I started with the fried Korean broccoli (outstanding!) while my husband had the Bellwether salad which he also enjoyed. We both had the salmon entree as did our son; it was prepared medium-rare just as ordered. Our son's friend ordered the Bellwether salad with grilled chicken. Each of us had two glasses of wine which were $1 off each during happy hour (until 7 PM). Although $1 off may not sound like much, every wine by the glass is included, a nice change from many restaurants who offer just their "house" (inexpensive) wine at discounted prices. And Bellwether's wine list offers a nice variety of bottles and wines by the glass, all at relatively reasonable prices. Thailynn provided exceptional service throughout the evening.
