A 30-seat full bar and lounge add to the convivial environment, where guests can enjoy live music, an all-Spanish wine list, sherry on tap, dry cider, and Spain’s cocktail of choice, gintonic.
The airy, urban Mediterranean interior features California bay laurel tabletops, custom Costa Brava Blue-colored leather chairs and booths, Moorish light pendants and brass table-lamps, a private dining room for parties and events, and seating around the open kitchen with a custom hearth, the heart and soul of Bellota.
We had a wonderful evening at Bellota celebrating a few big events. We started in the bar with a few delicious drinks. The bar are is so comfortable with great seats around the bar and cozy chairs and couchs for larger groups. Our dinner server was entertaining and did a great job of guiding us on what to order from starters to sides to paella and the wine. The meal was fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Warm, cozy, energetic and beautiful environment! Can't wait to go back soon!

We always sit at the counter tables watching the chefs and it is our favorite spot. We contemplate what to order based on what we see them cooking. The tapas are great, and we love the overall atmosphere.

Brought my parents who were visiting from out of town. Service was good, food was amazing but the noise level made it hard to chat.
The food was outstanding and a creative spin on traditional Spanish cuisine. Great cocktails as well, including a make-your-own gin and tonic menu. However, the service was lacking which was unfortunate for a restaurant at this price point. We had to flag down our server on multiple occasions and wouldn't have gotten one of the dishes we ordered if we hadn't reminded him. We also indicated we were celebrating a birthday in our OpenTable reservation and it was not acknowledged by anyone. I might go back but only because the food was so good.
Paella had ingredient that's a little hard to chew. Not sure if the rice is half cooked or another ingredient was stale (looked like cut fried noodle). Otherwise, it's tasty and the seafood component is recommended. Non alcoholic libation were very good. It could get a little loud in there. Other than the above & non compliance with ADA (no ramp) it's a very nice experience.
Great experience dining here. The food was delicious, flavorfully balanced, and beautifully presented. The quality of ingredients is high and prepared thoughtfully. The Iberico ham is really expensive and unfortunately did not capture the sweetness my wife and I experienced in Spain. Our waiter Zach was awesome. Attentive to us and detail oriented. For example when my wife got up to use the restroom, and placed her crumpled napkin on the seat, he picked it up to re-fold.
We really enjoyed sitting at the bar next to the kitchen and watching the dance of the food being prepared. We had the iberico jamon, octopus and potatoes, seafood and pork paella, and two pinxtos, all delicious.
Were it not so expensive we would eat here all the time, but hopefully we can go again with friends. Wonderful place, great food, service, and ambiance 😊

This is Spanish influence food restaurant that offers larch menu of tapas and some paellas. Portions of tapas are extremely small in size, however prices are inadequate to the portion size. Wine list consist of only wines from Spain & are too pricey .Overall it’s way overpriced for what you are getting .
I was really looking forward to dine at Bellota but left dissapointed. I understand it was a busy Friday evening and all the service was busy but they should have managed this better. We ordered a bottle of wine and it was very hard to get a waiter to keep our glasses topped up. The food wasnt as good as expected. For instance, the octopus was good but for 4 small pieces of it and two massive potatoes, 24 dolars, a small bowl of spanish olives, 9 dolars - you get that in Spain for 3 euros.
Overall, the food and the service, not worth the visit. Sorry Bellota!!

excellent food, i asked for a table by the bar because i was celebrating my wedding anniversary, and i wanted to see the live music. I wrote that under notes, but they didn't listen and gave me a different section. Next time please listen. The service was outstanding. Thank you.

Appetizers and drinks were great but we were there for the paella which was was only. okay. Not a true paella as there was no crust. Rice seemed like it came from a rice cooker. Fish a little dry. The couple sitting next to my s were Spanish and felt the same way.

I really hate writing a bad review but our experience at Bellota on Saturday night was extremely disappointing. My wife chose this restaurant to celebrate her birthday and we have dined there several times before. We have always had very good service in the past but on Saturday the service was horrible.
Our server barely spoke to us and there was no interaction or acknowledgement that we were celebrating a special occasion. We brought a special bottle of Spanish wine to celebrate with and while he opened the wine he never once filled our glasses for the rest of the evening. My wife’s cocktail glass had a crack in it and was leaking all over the table. When we pointed this out to him he obviously replaced it but never once apologized.
We were pretty much ignored most of the evening and even had to ask several times for more water. I also requested that the meal be coursed out but we were continually brought dishes while the previous course was still on the table being eaten.
I finally went and spoke to the manager, a young lady who obviously has received no training on what good customer service means. After telling her everything that had gone wrong and how poor our server was she never once apologized but said she would “speak to him”. She then proceeded to tell me that she was surprised because “he’s one of our better servers”. Well, clearly he’s not if we had such a poor experience with him!
I’m beginning to think that mediocre service is just a given with the restaurants in the Absinthe group. We have dined at Absinthe for over 15 years and also eaten at Comstock and Barcino and apart from a few occasions we have always received poor or average service. The main reason we dine at these restaurants, which are certainly not cheap, is that for the most part the food is always excellent.
Maybe most diners, especially millennials, don’t care about or expect good service but some of us still do.
This is one of our favorite places... we had our wedding reception there. But when we came back for our anniversary, I booked well in advance, and made note of the occasion and asked for an intimate table. When we arrived, the hostess brought us to a two top in the middle of the room, so we said we’d wait at the bar until something out of the way or near a window opened up, not a big deal at all. She then came back 10 minutes later to offer us a booth. We decided to have our meal at the bar, and had a lovely time. I just wish the request had been noticed, or that there had been some communication that they couldn’t accommodate it. Food, as always, was awesome. Music was great. Service at the bar was solid. Just a sloppy welcome.

The place is beautiful and service was attentive. The food was mediocre at best and the menu was so limited that the 3 of us ordered the same thing. My Cuban sandwich roll had been doused in butter so it was dripping and made it unpleasant to eat. Great ingredients but not a lot of thought in the menu and not very authentic for a Spanish themed restaurant.
We eventually decided to sit at the bar since the bar serves the full menu. The cocktails at here is always spot on. The gin and tonic selections are plenty. The bar really know how to put drinks together deliciously. I saw the bartender was making an interesting drink. That sound great so I asked him to make me one. It was delicious. The bartenders are very friendly.
We started the ham but we asked the bartender whether we could substitute the chrizo with cheese and the kitchen made it happen. Thumb up!!
We shared everything that night. The gambas(shrimp) with garlic sauce is good but I think Zuzu in Napa has a better version. I wish they would cook with the shell on. It would bring more shrimp favor to the sauce. The salmon was perfectly cooked. The skin was crisp while the meat was still moist. We also had the roasted cauliflower. The sauce came with the cauliflower brought out the nuttiness of the cauliflower, it was excellent.
For the dessert, we shared a queso cheesecake. The cheesecake was light and cheesy. I can just go to Bellota to have this queso cheesecake and will happy as the clam.
Honestly, our experience was everything I could have hoped for as we celebrated my boyfriend’s birthday. Wonderful staff, amazing wine (2009 rosé 🤤), fantastic food and an atmosphere that left us wanting to come back again. Highly recommend this spot for anyone!! Jamon Iberico, brussel sprouts, the shrimp, pork belly and churros were great! Our server, Jason, was super helpful and we loved chatting with him. Looking for a nice dinner? Go here!
I am a repeat customer at Bellota as I work a block away. I often have business lunches and dinners there, and meet friends for after work nibbles. I find the service is always attentive, the food is always great and the feeling at the restaurant is very upbeat. It's my fave place in SOMA.
We have dined at Bellota several times. This is the first time the service was not up to par. Specifically, we had to wait much longer than usual for our drinks from the bar. I had to ask multiple times before finally getting a glass of wine. This happened twice.
A favouritie of ours! Very helpful and friendly service. Went for a lunch date! Outstanding Paella, great salads and amazingly decadent Churros. A must visit restaurant!
Worth the money.
Loved the vibe of this place. Food was good, but nothing to write home about. We just ordered from the tapas menu, however two of the items we wanted to order were sold out.
Great ambiance, pretty good food, and completely underwhelming service. We checked in with the host and were not even acknowledged or welcomed. I told them our reservation name and time and she looked at me blankly, and nodded to her co-host who walked us to the table. No "hi welcome, or anything" - before or after we checked in. The co-host walked us to our table in a zombie-like manner, with no words after seating us. The waiter was friendly, but barely checked on us throughout the meal. Overall the ambiance is the best part, the food is authentic and tasty, but the staff lacked warmth, friendliness, and ultimately professionalism.

FOOD, service and atmosphere was unbelievable! I’d forgotten what excellent food and service could be! We are making Bellota are first choice in SF dining.
The noise level in this place required that my wife and I yell across the table in order to have any conversation. We decided to just sit in lovely silence smiling at each other until I requested to be moved to the bar which allowed us to sit closer and talk at more normal volume. Everyone was great helping us move to the bar for a better experience. We thank them for that.

Best patatas bravas I've ever eaten. Crispy skin, creamy interior. Perfect. Everything we ordered was good, if a bit overpriced (though probably average for SF diners). The polpo tapa especially was expensive for the portion AND proportion (50/50 octopus/potato). At $24, one can get a racion portion elsewhere.
That said, I would still recommend the place because the staff really elevate the experience. Service was warm and efficient. Special shout out to our waiter Zach who clearly knows how to read a table. Never hovering but always available when we needed him.
