Bellissimo is a tired restaurant with a lackluster menu. Admittedly it is "Restaurant Week" but the menu was uninspired and very pricey for the equally weak quality of the food. The glowing reports on the wall are from a decade and a half ago. Perhaps it was amongst the best, but I am hard pressed to see how it could still be.
We enjoyed the dinner. Unfortunately they serve coffee only with milk . We like our coffee with half and half.... otherwise it would be a great dinner
Hope the owner will provide half and half for coffee..,
Was there for restaurant week. They offer a lot of options for the three course meal. The wine by the glass is not stellar by an means. I had the tiramisu which was not as sweet as typical. The cannoli and the cheesecake looked to be good. The best part of the meal was the sauce. They do a great job with the gravy.
I always enjoy the delicious food and the excellent service at this local favorite.
Visited during restaurant week. Food is good but they need more wait staff. The person helping me had no idea how to efficiently service tables. Even when I asked for my bill before the entree was even served, I had to wait until after dessert was cleared. I knew it would be like that, which is why I tried to be proactive, but oh well...
The food is good; just don’t expect a waiter/waitress who is keeping an eye on you.
Lovely dinner during restaurant week at Bellisimo. Rey is very accommodating with recommendations and the servers attentive. Food was delicious!
Absolutely delicious food and fantastic service! The bread is light and toasty. Combined with the olive oil and Parmesan made the perfect Start to lunch. The gazpacho was fresh and almost smoky. After that I was not surprised that the Chicken Granchioli was perfectly cooked, juicy with melty cheese. The sabaglione was light and fluffy; perfectly paired with tangy strawberries to make a light and satisfying end to lunch. Will definitely be back!!!
The staff was extremely accommodating and I have no complaints on that front. Honestly, I think Bellissimo is overpriced given: a) i've had much better Italian food (for less money) at nearby restaurants; and b) the inside of Bellissimo needs some serious attention. It would be one thing to pay as much as Bellissimo charges for the food if the atmosphere was 5-star, but it's not. Baseboard moldings are gouged and discolored, the paint on the walls is faded and worn, door trims are beaten, etc. I would simply expect more from a restaurant that charges top dollar for a dinner.
Another fabulous meal! Every group of friends I’ve brought to Bellissimo loves it. Our server Ennio made our meal complete with his charm and excellent service. Gazpacho was a huge hit filled with flavor. A few of us ordered the salmon, others the shrimp special. The calamari was one of the best my friend Linda has ever had. The desserts were beyond wonderful. I’m sure my friends will be back as will I. Thanks for a wonderful afternoon.
Thank you for your kind words! We are thrilled that you had a great experience with us and we are looking forward to seeing you again very soon!
The waiter was great! Attentive and made sure I was pleased
That's fantastic to hear! Thanks for the positive feedback. We hope to see you again soon!
Ennio, our server was very polite and is a very humble person. The best service !!
Ennio is the very best! Thank you for letting us know about your experience!
We were not impressed at all with our dinner this evening. The gluten-free pasta was hard and pasty. It said it was linguini - when it was actually spaghetti. The server was polite. The food was mediocre. The shrimp was chewy. The specialty fish was very good and the sauce was great but the presentation was bland. The dessert was mushy. We had ordered the mango sorbet that wasn’t even very cold because the freezer was not working. The server provided us the orange sorbet which was colder. However, he still charge us for sorbet- which didn’t make sense. The cost of the wine at $35 a bottle for an average house wine was extreme. Disappointed::-(
We had a reservation for 15 people in August – – and came to check the place out in advance. Because we weren’t impressed, we are canceling that reservation.
RP and DP: Thank you for the feedback about your visit. We appreciate the time you took to write this to us. We are very sorry that the mango sorbet wasn't cold- our refrigerator was on the blink that night! It is now fixed. You shouldn't have been charged for the orange sorbet, though. Also sorry you didn't like the house wines. The good thing is we are always changing our selections- so any recommendations would be appreciated. Hope you'll give us another try!
Sat in a window table away from the main dining room. Cozy and quiet spot. Food was great. Although servers were very nice, they kept forgetting things. Maybe they were too busy. Overall enjoyable experience
Thanks, Devi for letting us know. I would love to know more details about the service. Could you call me on my cell at 202 262-3726 please? We'd love the chance to make it up to you. Glad the food was great! Talk soon I hope!
Quaint location in Fairfax. Food was a little disappointing and service was spotty. The cannolis for dessert however were incredibly tasty.
Haven’t been here in years. Recently returned fro Italy and we wanted Italian food for my wife’s Birthday. Very nice experience, good service, good food and nice ambience.
Fabulous service! Food was wonderful although I prefer my Salmon a little less cooked the flavors were delicious!
Great except they need to invest in a new air conditioner asap
Mediocre experience. Food was bland and service was adequate. We don't plan to return.
My wife and I truly enjoyed our meal here. The maître d' was very personable and make the service very enjoyable. The house wines were excellent, especially their Brunello. The portions are huge, so much so that I would like to see this trend of enormous servings pared down a bit - although the prices are not overwhelming. As for the quality of the food, my wife's chicken marsala was slightly on the salty side and the seafood in my linguine cleopatra was slightly overdone, I'm guessing it was introduced to the sauce way too early before serving. Other than that I highly recommend and would return myself.
Great food and friendly staff! We were looking into it for our Rehearsal dinner for our wedding and we will definitely be having our event here.
Hi Elizabeth: Fantastic! We love rehearsal dinners! Call Mary at 202 262-3726 to help you plan it!
As usual the food was excellent. It is disappointing that a three star restaurant like Bellissimo is content to give its guests one star cutlery. Maybe people don't notice, but my wife and I do.
Wait staff happily moved us to a more secluded table once we realized we were next to a graduation celebration table of 16. Small restaurant that cannot hide noise but feels like a family operation. The fresh grilled salmon special was cooked to perfection. We asked about whether it would be fresh, and he answered, "We don't have a freezer! It has to be fresh!" Tiramisu dessert was delicious. Friendly place where they don't hurry you through your meal. We will be returning for special occasions. Cons: Parking can be a problem at that busy intersection of old town Fairfax City.
Excellent all around - great place to celebrate our anniversary!
Brilliant authentic italian food. The Chef made an off menu item- Veal Parmigiana which should be on the menu. You will not be disappointed with anything you order.
We went there to celebrate our anniversary for the first time. Nice romantic Italian restaurant located in the heart of old town Fairfax. I had the Chicken Marsala and my wife had the Linguini Fruiti Del Mar. I always get the Chicken Marsala my first time at all Italian Restaurants as a bench mark. Theirs was above average than most. I was a little disappointed on the serving size but in the end it was perfect when paired with a small side salad, which was amazing! My wife’s dish was actually the better of the two. Full of seafood and a rich tomato base. For a quite romantic meal we highly recommend this place.
We asked to move up our reservation by an hour after the GMU graduation finished earlier than we thought it would. They made it happen.
We never have a bad meal or service. Love being able to have a conversation without yelling.
We have eaten at Bellissimo a number of times - and we'll very likely return. However, this visit, for Mother's Day, was far below par in terms of the service provided. The young host was dressed in a slovenly manner (including sloppily-knotted, poorly-fitted, backwards tie). Even though we had a reservation, we were told that because of the holiday, the only table they had available for a couple was right next to the door (full cold draft on every entrance/exit). Note that half of the dining room was still empty at this time (just before 6:30), but they had pre-set all but the one table for 4 or more. However, we were seated for less than 5 minutes when another couple came in, again gave their number as just two, and were taken to the back corner of the restaurant, where tables were quickly separated to permit 2-person seating. NOT a good way to treat returning (or any) guests. The water glasses on our table were very dirty, but quickly replaced when we pointed it out. Food arrived in decent time after ordering and was delicious as usual - Toretti di Mozzarella appetizer followed by excellent seafood dishes. Not once did the waiter or anyone else come by to see how the food was or how we were doing. As I said, we'll likely return, but if the service is as poor next time, it will probably be our last visit.
Food is ok but the pricing is fairly high for the quality
Our Mother's Day experience at Bellissimo Restaurant was delightful, as always. The meal was delicious and the service was warm and friendly.
Mother's Day lunch event for 10 people. Came at 11:15am and only 1/3 of the restaurant was full.
Food came about an hour later. Guests that came after us, were served first.
During our wait, only water was refilled. Wait staff were not as busy, but the kitchen staff seemed to overwhelmed. Was told by the manager that the delay is "out of their hands."
Food is very good, but slightly overpriced, ranging from $25 for pasta (vegetarian) to $35 for a seafood pasta dish. Bottled import beers will cost you about $7-$8 a bottle.
Do not recommend any group larger than 4 people to go.
Service was excellent. Food was delicious. Modest and intimate. Cozy, but delightful character.
Another fabulous dinner at Bellissimo! Took some friends out for dinner. Am in love with their pasta dishes, so hard to decide which one to get. They even had gluten free pasta for one of my friends. My husband is still hooked on the tender veal, if I allowed him to lick his plate he would have! Highly recommend!
This was our first time to Bellissimo and certainly won’t be our last. The restaurant is small but elegant. Our waiter Joe was very helpful guiding us through the menu and helping us with our selections. We had the house montepulciano which was a nice accompaniment to our meal. We shared the calamari which was wonderful, flash fried with very little breading. Joe recommended we split the spinach salad, which we did. Dressed with a light lemon vinaigrette, yummy. My husband had the veal scaloppine and said it was the best he’d ever had, tender and full of flavor. I had the special, seafood over pasta, very worthy! We ordered tiramisu to split for dessert. I have never liked tiramisu but really liked it. We had a truly wonderful dining experience, I think we’ve found our new favorite Italian restaurant!
Great Easter dinner!
I lived in Italy for several years and I am always thrilled when I find a restaurant with excellent, authentic food. Bellissimo certainly fits that bill. The food was delicious, first rate, and as good as any I'd eaten in Italy. Our waiter was very entertaining and highly amused when I tried to practice my very rusty Italian. It took a while for our food to arrive but we weren't in a rush and the wait made the experience even more authentic. We will definitely be back.
Thank you Edward for the wonderful review! We hope to see you again soon!
The meal was delicious and the atmosphere was so very pleasant. Bellissimo Restaurant was a perfect choice for Easter dinner with the lamb and seafood selections. Our server Joe was courteous and attentive as always. We always enjoy going to Bellissimo Restaurant for special occasions.
The food is very good but if there are loud tables it will ruin your experience. The dining room is very small . Unfortunately the past 2 times I’ve been there this has happened. Not the restaurants fault, just bad luck
So sorry about the noise! Saturdays tend to be really busy and noisy- less so other evenings. Thanks for letting us know. Come again soon!
Three times visiting and have yet to be disappointed.
Lovely little Italian restaurant in Fairfax City. Excellent, friendly service. All the Italian classics well prepared, great cocktails & drinks.
Thank you for your kind comments! They make our day!
