Very fun evening with creative comfort food cooked superbly right before your eyes. The chef and sous chef maintain banter with the 12 diners while prepping and cooking your meals. The server/wine steward/everything else person was charming, informed, and very efficient. The three were a real team and all were engaged with the diners. A totally delightful evening!
The food was amazing!! Small and intimate place. Great for couples.
Belle Harlem is outstanding. It’s unique approach of having two seatings in essentially an 8-10 person restaurant is really fun. The layout allows you to watch Chef cook! It’s an intimate and wonderful experience. The food is to die for and the service is impeccable. Go ASAP!! It is a true gem!
Dined here tonight with friends. This was the best culinary experience I had in forever!
First: the intimate setting was great for conversation. I came here with 3 other friends, and, even though the space is small, it never felt crowded, and we could speak at a normal (to sometimes loud!) volume.
Second: the ambience was fitting. The music was definitely smooth R&B, which was a conversation-starter in itself!
Third: the staff was inviting and attentive. I know there are only 12 seats in the entire place, but it felt like we were our own table. I do not remember ever having to ask for anything. Glasses were replenished, plates were taken away frequently (and we ordered a lot of food!), and our waitress constantly checked in on us. The chef, who was really personable and warm, was very gracious and genuinely flattered by our compliments.
Last (not at ALL least): THE FOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We shared almost every menu item, and were amazed at almost every bite. The flavor profiles! The freshness of the ingredients! The play on textures of many of the dishes! The presentation! And the perfect execution! I wish I could give this place 6 STARS.
Come to Belle Harlem. You will not regret it.
On a whim, we made a reservation for Belle. I was interested in a good dinner out in a small restaurant. Thank goodness I made a reservation, because the restaurant is very small. The smallness of the restaurant, and the closeness of the kitchen, only improve the experience!
The food was wonderful, the people creating the food and the experience are fantastic, and the other patrons were fun to talk to you. This is a must try restaurant whether you’re local, or visiting from out of town like me. I’m told the menu changes regularly, so I won’t describe the food, but everything was created by such purpose and creativity you will not be disappointed.
Absolutely superb.....a true gem!
We (my 23 year old daughter and wife) celebrated my wife's birthday there late night on a Saturday. This was our first time at the restaurant, and quite honestly I was a little bit nervous about going some place new for the special occasion. After being in the restaurant 2 minutes all of my concerns disappeared. All of the superlative reviews that I had read prior to making the reservation were spot on. This is a very VERY special place. The food was incredible! While I do not consider myself a "foodie", my wife and I do dine out regularly and have eaten at many of the well established "upscale" restaurants throughout the city....the dining experience at Belle Harlem outshines them all. The food, the service, the ambiance all made for an experience that was truly therapeutic...dining at Belle Harlem was like sitting down in your best friend's kitchen and eating a meal fit for the gods. All of the stress and strains of hectic NYC lifestyle are dissolved into one of the most relaxing dining experiences you have ever had. You got to check this place out.
I have been to Belle many times.
The food,staff etc. never disappoints.
Belle Harlem does not disappoint. I was concerned the place wouldn’t live up to the hype but they delivered on every course. The staff are outstanding and truly make you feel like you’re dining in their home.
My husband brought me here for my birthday and the food and wine was amazing! Can’t wait to go back!!!
Great food. Excellent menu. Fun staff. A real neighborhood gem.
Loved the open kitchen, friendly staff, delicious food. Belle Harlem was our favorite dining experience during our visit to New York.
Simply amazing! From the food to the service it was all excellently thought out!
This was my second time there and it felt like I was sitting with friends at their kitchen counter. Great food! Great service, friendly, accommodating and love the restaurant space. - Scott K
This restaurant is such a gem! Menu is nouveau American but with influence from other cuisines. The small format, right in front of the chef makes for as interactive of a dining experience as you are comfortable.
Had an amazing dinner. Everything was delicious. Can’t say enough about the food and staff. Will return!!
Belle Harlem is a gem to say the least. It is by far the most coziest restaurant I've ever been to. Always welcoming and easy to talk to. Great staff, great wines and amazing dishes. You walk in, and it's like you just walked into a very special dinner party. Chefs cooking right in front of you, wines all on display, everyone smiling and enjoying themselves. This spot is great for any occasion. You are out of your mind if you don't check this place out!
The food is very good, cooked right in front of you. The seating is limited and the atmosphere is very family oriented. There are 4 seatings directly in front the cooking area where it’s very uncomfortable because your legs isnt under the table. I ended up having to sit sideways the entire evening which was very uncomfortable. The pricing of the food is expensive (Approx $230.00 for two people). For this kind of price, I expect physical comfort. Overall speaking the food was delicious, the chef was personable and love is put into the food. The wine is ok, not the best if you know a lot about wines. I would go again but definitely request a seating away from the cooking area and for a special occasion since they are pricy. Tip is also automatically included in the bill but you’re not able to see the % or amount charged for the tip which was weird if you ask me.
Excellent food, excellent service, never a disappointment
Chef Darryl Burnette and his wife Melissa have created a brilliant concept with the tiny restaurant Chef's Table. It was certainly worth the train ride from lower Manhattan. The menu is a creative combination of fresh roof-top grown ingredients and recipes that will leave you wanting to return again and again. They have a fabulous wine menu for even the most discerning! Their staff is truly some of the most attentive and kind people we met while in NYC. Prepare to have a fun evening watching the staff work in close quarters while you relax and enjoy a fantastic meal!
Belle Harlem is a phenomenal experience. The food is great (get the Mac and cheese spring rolls), the people are warm and welcoming, and the owners are just lovely!
Great service, very good good, and intimate atmosphere. I believe they only have 12 people dine at a time which makes for a nice place to have good conversations because it’s bever loud. They also have a great set list which definitely adds to the vibe. Lastly, the prices are tip inclusive which I appreciate.
The phrase "dining experience" is overused, but it suits Belle Harlem perfectly. Our meal started with the mac & cheese spring rolls and arancini, the night's special appetizer. Our large plates were the exquisite black sea bass and the perfect-for-summer lobster salad. We noticed that some of the herbs that went into our food were picked right from the planter outside the front window -- and Chef Darryl showed up with some just-picked rooftop produce for the kitchen. We couldn't be more locavore. Although we were sated by our meals and a perfectly paired Vermentino, how could we resist a dessert called Im Peach'em? Service is top shelf, too. This restaurant is a Harlem jewel.
Ambiance is great! Food is great! Portions look small but are extremely deceptive. You will be full. Flavors are popping. The menu names are creative. I had a great time and will definitely be back. Call before you make a reservation to find out what is on the menu that day. It changes all the time and that is a wonderful thing. Yay!
This was our first time at Belle and it definitely will not be the last. What a wonderful and unique dining experience. Hosts Melissa and Daryl were great and made you feel like you were hanging out in their kitchen. Our waitress was amazing also. Unfortunately I don't remember her name, sorry. She couldn't have done more for us including let us taste different wines to see which we liked best. It's relatively small, only 12 seats, but does not feel cramped at all. The food was delicious! Amazing what they can do without a stove or gas range. We split the risotto and chicken and waffle small plates and lamb large plate. Saved room for dessert so we split their version of a brownie. All was really, really good. Thanks everybody for making for a memorable night on a Tuesday!
My husband and I went there this evening for the first time for our date night. This was one of the most outstanding dining experiences that either of us has ever had. The food was amazing, the wine selection was wonderful and the service impeccable The owners were so warm and gracious that they made you feel like you were dining at the home of old friends. Get to the restaurant as fast as you can. I am going to make our next reservation as soon as I am done writing this review.
Dining as theater! Great food presentation, professional and friendly service. Very unique dining experience that lived up to the outstanding reviews.
By far one of the best culinary experiences I’ve had in a long time. From the food to the staff to the warm ambience, the owners of Belle have created a dining experience not to be missed.
Belle Harlem exceeded my expectations. Aside from the set up (small initimate place. You get to watch the chef cook!) The hostess was extremely nice and was always making sure my husband and I were enjoying our night. We even had small conversations. The chef was exceptional! The food was so delicious! I loved the place. Will definitely go again and I definitely recommend it!!
Darryl is the best chef in NY. We had a great meal and can’t wait to go again.
What a unique experience. You’re essentially invited into Darryl and Melissa’s kitchen. An intimate setting with only 12 seats at a communal table. We sat with a few folks who had been to Belle before and we had a lively conversation about what to order. Basically - order everything. The risotto and the chicken and waffles were our favorites but we ended with the lamb chop which was rich and flavorful. Everything was delicious. But the highlight is getting to break bread with the owners - lovely people who enjoy chatting with their guests and making them feel right at home. We cannot wait to return - my only regret is writing a review is that so many people will catch on that I won’t get one of the 12 seats!
This restaurant is TINY. 12 seats around a communal counter, with chefs working on the other side! The food is wonderful, inventive without being fussy.Absolutely delicious.Greens grown in their own roof-top garden.
The service is great, very attentive and personal, and quick.Desserts are amazing.
The only downside is that the seating is on stools with no back, not the most comfortable.
This is without a doubt my favorite Harlem Restaurant and I can say without reservation one of my favorite restaurant experiences ever. I love the up close and personal attention given by the owners. The food is absolutely five star and the wine selection is superb. The price points are high but ironically that fact adds to the Belle Harlem's specialness. This is not your everyday run of the mill establishment. It is a unique experience and therefore worth the costs.
What an incredible experience! I felt like I was breaking bread with good friends. Excellent wine selection, superb food!
It was a pleasure to meet Darryl and Melissa for the first time, and experience the cuisine at Belle Harlem! The food is amazing, and the ambiance even better. I highly recommend eating here for a great experience!!!
Great, great meal. I enjoyed it very much. I like the fact that it’s just 12 seats. Very intimate.
The food is so fresh, creative and delicious , cool ambience. Love Melissa & Daryl and the warm welcoming staff! Can’t wait to go back
Great Food, Great Service, Great Ambiance!!!
An amazing experience, I loved the atmosphere and intimacy of this restaurant the food was amazing the honey biscuits, Mac and cheese spring rolls and the bass. I will definitely be back.
Love love love Belle Harlem.
It’s a small space but manages to be comfortable and intimate, not cramped.
The service is wonderful and friendly since you are engaging with the owners and chefs who know the menu and wines intimately and are clearly invested in you enjoying the meal.
The food is amazing. Not a lot of choice but when you realize that the chefs are putting together this magic in a smaller kitchen with fewer kitchen appliances than you have (ie no oven) you’ll be in a awe of the talent and inspiration.
In sum, Belle Harlem feels like the dining room and menu you wish you could create in your own home but don’t quite have the talent to make it happen. Good thing they do.
Really enjoyed Belle Harlem. The food was AMAZING and they offer great service. The candied bacon alone makes the mac and cheese spring rolls worth a try and both of our entrees (lamb chops and lobster salad) were delicious. Will definitely be back.
