Belle Harlem Ratings and Reviews
We had the most wonderful time ever at Belle Harlem. Chef Sterling and owners Melissa and Darryl were absolutely welcoming and delightful to spend time with. The food was truly impeccable. Every single bite of every dish was beautifully made and absolutely delicious. My husband and I have not stopped talking about what a great meal it was and how truly awesome the owners and chef were. It was great to watch them cook and interact with them. You must go to this amazing gem!
A special place. The food was very interesting and delicious. The chefs are right in front of you and they are friendly, warm, and unpretentious (although there are many unusual words on the menu that we had to get deciphered). The waitress was lovely. I went with husband and my teen children. They felt comfortable and we had a lovely family celebration. Very, very happy to find a restaurant where we could talk easily. There is nice music, but it is just the right level. There is a range of food - fine for vegans as well as meat eaters. We will certainly be back.
Belle Harlem is a true gem. The 3 person crew includes your hostess/server/bartender, the chef and sous-chef and the food is amazing. The menu is creative, fun and delicious and the chef times it perfectly so that your second course is done a few minutes after the first course so that you can savor the first course and your delicious wine before the second course. Everything was so fresh and the desserts were delicious. Looking forward to returning.
One of our favorite restaurants in the city! A unique dining experience with the open kitchen and one table for dining. My wife and I ordered one of each of the small plates and everything was delicious! The chefs and waitress are incredibly friendly and willing discuss the food and life
What an amazing culinary experience! The concept of open kitchen cooking combined with great service by the owners is fantastic. All of the dishes we had were unbelievable: the Mac and cheese spring rolls are a must, the biscuit slider is a great take on a burger, and the filet with sweet potato purée was one of the best steaks I’ve had. The specials: butternut squash risotto and hummus with grilled bread were items we were lucky to get by chance and should seriously be considered to be regular menu items.
Belle Harlem made for one of the most memorable dining experiences my wife and I have had in Manhattan. The intimate space allows for interactions with the chefs and with other guests, plus the food was wonderful. If you are looking for something different in NYC dining without sacrificing great food, service and ambience, try Belle Harlem.
This restaurant is phenomenal! I enjoyed the intimate atmosphere, the ability to connect with the chef and sous chef as they prepared my meal and the flavor of what they put before me. From the appetizer to the main course, I enjoyed savory dishes prepared with care and expertise. The music was relaxing as well. A great restaurant for a singleton. After a hard day’s work, it was just the treat I needed.
Great Dining Experience!
Went with 3 couples to celebrate a birthday. It is a small space with a long counter for seating. The menu was small but sufficient to please everyone. There were some nice specials. The wine was excellent- a focused and well-selected list. Chef Daryl was impressive- the meals were all top notch in every respect and we all loved talking shop with him. He is a real talent.
The appetizers were all excellent- smoked tomato soup, salmon tartar, and a chicken and waffle special that was sinfully terrific. Gane hen, salmon, and filet mignon were great.
A really fresh concept! Like eating dinner at your good friends house (who happens to be a particular good chef), sitting on a bar stool at their island in the kitchen. Food was creative, a nice blend of comfort and current, and most importantly flavorful. Service was attentive-enjoyed being able to talk and engage.
Super cute Chef Table type dining in this Harlem. The food is beautiful and delicious. The mac and cheese spring rolls are the best way to start your meal. The owners are personable and welcoming and that makes the food that much better. A must if you want a unique dining experience Uptown.
Excellent dining experience. Wonderful food, ambiance, service -- you name it. We went for a special occasion as a couple (and yes the space allows for a fairly intimate meal too) but will not wait for another special occasion to return. It's simply no wonder people give Belle Harlem such rave reviews.
Belle Harlem is an experience. The concept is that 12 people sit around a large counter and watch as their food is being prepared and then eat together. The food does not disappoint. In particular the petit filet on Saturday was outstanding -- very tender and succulent. Not surprisingly -- given the tiny space -- reservations can be hard to come by and you need to guarantee with a credit card. Stop by Shrine after your meal for some great world music in a fun setting to round out your evening in Harlem.
A hidden gem in Harlem, Belle is a very special spot. Only 12 seats, this restaurant is more a chef's table than anything. The menu has a few favorites but changes constantly with great specials. The chef and sous are right in front of you cooking as they go. A must!
We arrived to a warm
Great smelling kitchen the environment lends itself to the feeling of a experience rather then just dinner
Timing of the meals dishes perfect and the waitstaff friendly and very welcoming
Spoke with the chef about some of the ingredients he used and the inspiration for his meals
The Mac n cheese spring rolls not to be missed
very special place. sophisticated food in what must once have been a storefront--guests eat at a long counter with the chef working on the other side, which sounds like a diner but is much more elegant. friendly, intimate--inventive cooking--some of the greens are grown on the roof--somehow both modest and ambitious--recommended.
Took our family here for a great evening of fantastic food and a dining "experience." We are chefs, as as such we are huge foodies. Belle Harlem is like eating at the home of a wonderful chef, and they make it very easy to sample many items from their carefully thought out menu. Great service and incredibly friendly environment. A must if you appreciate great food!
This has become my "go to" restaurant for special occasions. Seats only 12 people, so noise level is fine, & you can watch the cooking process as you eat. A bit pricey, but given the parameters, well worth it. Chef Darryl is friendly and forthcoming and his staff of 2 very efficient and meticulous. Best find ever!!
OMG I LOVE this place! It is tiny - and I mean tiny - like maybe was a smoke shop before. Incredible what Chef turns out with no space and no fancy equipment - it is all about the food and the friendly welcoming atmosphere. Did I mention the FOOD? The scallops - I died and went to heaven. Everything was spectacular. You get to watch them cook your food; super friendly and happy to answer questions etc. The wine list is minimal, not surprisingly, but there is something to match whatever you are eating.
Yes it is up in Harlem - just get there, it is totally worth it. My new Go To place for visiting NYC. Hope I get back there soon! Bravo Belle Harlem!
This is a very unique dining experience. Intimate and charming. The food is also excellent; we had a series of small plates and everything was delicious. Nice selection of wines. Great attention to detail. Cool neighborhood spot, run by friendly and talented folks. Highly recommended!
