The staff were very patient with my party since we didn’t all show up on time. They were accommodating and yet clear that they needed for us to move on so they could seat the next reservation. I thought their approach was very polite, kind and respectful. Look forward to going back.
Such a unique and fun experience. Open kitchen, super friendly staff and delicious food prepared in a very personal manner. Just wonderful!
Great experience and friendly service. Fresh ingredients prepared before you. Smell of food after but totally worthwhile it.
I absolutely love Belle Harlem! The food is inventive and tasty. What an excellent idea...a chef table restaurant. The atmosphere is comfortable and engaging. It is a must dine experience!
Belle was an outstanding experience..the food, the service, the unusual cozy atmosphere and . of course, the enormously talented ,friendly and professional owners. A great evening.
The food was amazing, the ambiance amazing. Overall it was a fabulous experience.
A gorgeous and intimate experience for those lucky enough to grab one of the 12 seats. The hands on owners of the restaurant are a gracious couple whom run a precision operation; dining here is suited for patrons whom can be mindful of the 1 1/2 hour service allocation to allow for other patrons to start their reservation on time.
Belle Harlem has inventive cuisine that's consistently delicious. The best part about Belle Harlem is that it is small and intimate - only 14 seats in the restaurant and a front line view of the chef as he cooks alongside his wife, who is the hostess. If feels like every dish is cooked just for you....because it is. There is always a special or two and the menu changes, so each visit is a new experience.
This is the only OpenTable review I've ever written, but I felt compelled to do so after tonight's meal. Everything about it was wonderful. The intimate space that you share with both the other patrons and the chefs, the unbelievable food, the chill music/vibe, the UNBELIEVABLE food, the interaction with Darryl (chef) and Melissa (his wife), and THE UNBELIEVABLE FOOD. You feel like family while you're there and after you leave. Top 3 dining experience of my life, no question--you guarantee yourselves a wonderful evening as soon as you book the reservation.
Do yourself a favor and go here before Belle Harlem earns a couple Michelin stars and it takes weeks/months to get a seat.
We had a marvellous time at Belle Harlem! The waiters were very informative and lovely, and it was a real experience just watching the two chefs in action! We can’t wait to come back next time to try the dishes we didnt order!
Intimate and cool dining experience. It is amazing how much this place is able to pack in to such a small space. Our group tried a bunch of small plates and had a great time. Everything was good, but none of it particularly memorable. The wine list is very limited and cocktails are not an option.
This was the best overall dining experience I have ever had, the food was incredible!
Best meal I've had for a long time. It was also fun to be able to chat with the chef and see the kitchen in action. The recommendation from the wait staff was great! Limited wine list and wines on list a bit steep. Everything else, ten points!
Fun to be eating in the kitchen with the Chef. Food was delicious, creative, super fresh and worth the price. Wines were matched well and generously poured. I will go again and again
Belle has become a favorite for me and my family. Great food, wonderful ambience, great style with kitchen in the room with you as you dine. The balance of feeling the sense of the kitchen and food prep while giving you space to enjoy and dine along side your fellow guests. It is hard to strike such a balance and yet Belle does it!!
I have been dining at Belle since their soft opening with brunch service years ago. The space is amazing and the food, the food, oh God, the food is divine. Harlem Belle is our Harlem jewel.
Belle Harlem is a hidden gem! All 12 seats are at a communal table and you can watch the chef(s) at work. It's definitely an experience-type of dining, so if you are looking for an intimate, romantic dinner, this might not be the place for that. Food was delicious and beautifully-plated. A really wonderful experience. Highly recommend!
It is easy to see why this is an "In Spot" as the small space is intimate, and the food is a cut above in its creativity and execution. Also the staff interacts very well to the diners.
The one thing that stands out is the absurdly expensive wine list. I estimate that the prices were at least SIX times retail, or close to double one one should expect. We were hosts to some very old friends from California, who for some twenty years, were owners of a winery in the Napa Valley. They, as well as my wife and I, were totally shocked by the wine prices. We all decided not to order any wine at all! Too bad! To better assure their perpetuity, and not go down as just another trendy spot, they should remedy this .problem
very cool and intimate restaurant with only 12 seats around a big table. everything is to be commended except for the wine list. The sparkling offerings are fine, but the red and white offerings are surprisingly inferior and at high price points. No beers, as well. These are easy to fix!
A very unusual dining experience. A small intimate setting where we were able to get to know the chef, sous chef and waitress. All of them had interesting backstories. We were also able to see our food being prepared. An added bonus was meeting a lovely woman celebrating her birthday accompanied by two delightful daughters. Delicious wine and outstanding food.
This is an experience and place that will always rate as exceptional and special. The food is simple, yet dynamic. Reminds me of Italy where dishes are always understated, but spectacular. Ambiance’s is spot on with only 12 seats literally in the kitchen. Darryl the chef owner is great. You should go out of your way to visit the gem of a restaurant.
Dining at BELLE HARLEM is the unexpected. Intimate. Character. Delicious. Location. Harlem.
The staff is always naturally attentive and provide the intimate in customer experience. The seating is purposefully limited so if you’re looking for a spot to stumble upon, it isn’t BELLE HARLEM.
Plan your visit and enjoy!
Everything here is done with love, with a powerfully personal touch. It feels like a unique opportunity to sit down and spend a little time with the chef's palette and interests, as well as his skills and talents.
In its overall sensibility -- a small venue with personal attention from the Chef -- it's more like the New York City I grew up in, when thoughtful hustle (as opposed to impersonal opulence) was the measure of success. Totally recommended.
Loved it! Unique experience. Delicious food. Great service! Communal table of 12 people was different and fun.
Absolutely fantastic food in a beautiful intimate setting. The whole experience was wonderful.
Amazing chef! Amazing service! The atmosphere was very intimate and the whole time we felt like we were at a friend's house. It was a very lovely dinner. I'll definitely be back. You have to try their 24-carrot cake!
Terrific food, great ambiance. A welcome change from the too many copycat restaurants in Manhattan.
Delicious, intimate and fun! Looking forward to next time.
Belle Harlem was great! We'd made reservation for 6:30 but ended up getting tix to Amateur Night at the Apollo which started at 7:30 so we called Belle Harlem and asked if we could come early; they said no problem. We showed up and there were two other couples there, all of us sitting at the communal countertop table (which seats only 12) watching the chef cook, which he has to do on two hotplates because there is no stovetop. There's almost no counter space, tiny little undercounter fridges, tiniest deep fryer I've ever seen, one small oven, it's unbelievable. They have to cook some things one at a time so your dinner companion might not be served at the exact same time as you, but it's so much fun that you just share and you don't care. The food was great! I would recommend this to anyone who isn't stuffy.
Belle Harlem fully deserves to have been chosen "Best Overall."
Dinner started with perfect mac & cheese spring rolls, followed by exquisite salmon, and topped off by a shared trifling ho-ho. Chef Darryl's wonderful food was enhanced by the calm, clean and happy ambiance he creates, a "Heaven's Kitchen" to counteract all that media-stoked culinary drama. Even if you are not a fan of communal tables, this one will not disappoint: you will sit in a single row next to, but not across from, your dinner companions. So you can interact a little or a lot (probably quite a bit) with the strangers you share this memorable meal with.
Delicious food. Friendly wait staff. Intimate setting.
What an amazing find! Belle Harlem has a comfortable and casual environment with an amazingly talented chef and staff. The dishes are prepared beautifully with the utmost attention to detail. We know because we sat at the end of the table with a perfect view of the open kitchen. This also allowed us to ask questions about the restaurant and food and we had delightful conversation with the friendly chef and his staff. Every dish was delicious! We have to go back just to be able to try the ones we didn’t get a chance to order. The slider, grilled endive salad special, and the salmon and filet mignon, were all phenomenal!
Incredible experience. We will be bringing friends and family back.
Convivial atmosphere and carefully crafted food in an intimate setting. Service was attentive. The wine list has an atypical though wonderful selection. If you value your privacy, this is not the place for you as diners are seated at a communal table. However, if you are easygoing it is pleasant to engage in friendly banter with those seated around you. A curious gentleman without a reservation briefly invaded the space but the situation was handled with charm and tact. Make a reservation and enjoy this charming dining experience.
Belle Harlem is absolutely incredible! What an amazing experience and amazing food. I have been in the restaurant business 22 years and I can’t stop raving about this place. Chef Darryl and his wife Melissa are fantastic! And the service is incredible, our waitress is the sweetest and so delightful. Thank you!!
I was so impressed with this restaurant, it's reminiscent of a Tiny house, just in Restaurant form. The ambiance, vibes, music, and food was absolutely amazing. Chef Daryl and his lovely staff made my birthday a memorable one. Belle's have set the bar very high for restaurants in Harlem, please visit, you will be pleasantly surprised and greatly satisfied.
We celebrated my husband’s 43rd birthday here and the experience was phenomenal! The food was extremely delicious! So many surprising and interesting combinations of flavors in each dish. I can’t wait to dine here again! Both chefs were delightful and made our dining experience unforgettable!
Chef Darryl Burnette – Can I be your apprentice!?
My fiancée and I had such a wonderful experience celebrating our engagement dinner at Belle Harlem. The waitress was extremely friendly and very attentive during our stay and constantly filled our wine glass with a wonderful Italian white wine.
The food was incredibly tasty with gorgeous presentation, and the flavors (OMG)
First - The Mac & Cheese Spring Rolls were extremely delicious – that bacon marmalade (my goodness)!
Next – The salmon tartare so fresh, flavorful, and that avocado base – insane! We also enjoyed the Escargot – The parmesan polenta really made the dish POP!
Lastly, the Chicken and waffle with the Jalapeno maple syrup --- The chicken was well seasoned and the syrup, I wish I could’ve taken a jar home with me. A unique flavor that paired well with the chicken and waffle.
Finally, I’m a sucker for dessert; however, my fiancée does not share the same sweet tooth as me – and let me tell you, the 24-carat Carrot Cake was well balanced, soft, and oh so tasty. She enjoyed the cake quite well. It really completed our meal!
As a Harlemite, I am so happy that Darryl, his wife Melissa, and Co. decided to open such an amazing establishment. This a must for anyone in Manhattan! This is a truly unique, fun, and tasty dining experience!
This was probably one of my favorite dining experiences in all of Manhattan! The food was awesome and the experience was really fun! I had the macaroni and cheese spring rolls (Awesome) mussels, buttermilk biscuit slider and escargot for small plate apps, and then we shared the filet mignon (did not know it could be so flavorful!) and the 24c carrot cake. They were all excellent, every single dish. The sparkling rose was really good, there could have been a better choice for white wines, but everything else was perfect.
The eating at Belle Harlem was GREAT. In addition, I was lucky enough to be seated next to a lady who sampled a good part of the menu. It all looked fabulous!
The very small floor space was well organized and spotless. (P.S. – terrific restroom, especially for such a small restaurant) And the staff is very friendly and helpful.
Excellent dining experience – do try them!
