Bellanico Restaurant and Wine Bar Ratings and Reviews
Love this restaurant. The food is always on point and and love the staff. They were really accommodating when I brought my baby with a stroller. Its a small place but we made the stroller fit in back. In terms of the food, the menu changes often with what's seasonal. We came during Oakland Restaurant Week and the prix fixe menu had a variety of yummy morsels to choose from. Its great restaurant for a date, special occasion, or just because. Can't recommend it enough.
Disgraceful. I have been to this restaurant several times now, and every time I leave wondering why it's so popular. I find the food to be very hit or miss. Tonight, great salad, awful entree. The server was great. However, the food coming out was crazy slow, and they'd jammed some extra tables down the middle so that the waitstaff had trouble getting by, and I spent half the evening leaning in to let them by. We ordered right away, didn't linger, and minutes after they brought coffee, they asked us to give up the table for a guest who'd just arrived. Seriously?! Since they'd jammed so many tables in there and there was no place to wait, we had to just scoop our stuff up and leave, coffee half drunk, and they never even brought us our leftovers. I understand they can't always control the kitchen, but they could have at least offered to comp us something. I'd like to give two stars for the server and salad, but this was a birthday dinner, and they should have done better. Never again.
I took out-of-town friends to Bellanico for an excellent brunch. We were able to walk there from my house - good exercise before you confront the scrumptous brunch selections. The food was exceptional, wonderfully prepared from fresh ingredients and the service was impecable. The noise level was find but the restaurant was half-full. During dinner it is aloud, lively place. The food is consistently excellent and reflects the talents of the kitchen by providing interesting twists on traditional Italian fare. Bellanico is always a winner.
Restaurant week meal at Bellanico did not disappoint! We enjoyed the four courses and all were very good. The dessert sampler was exceptional. As always our two biggest favorites are the caulifower fritters (not to be missed) and the malfatti- how can you go wrong with sage, butter and cheese. Thank you Bellanico for a consistently great experience with knowledgeable staff. I always get a good wine recommendation when I ask too.
Bellanico without hesitation is great! We were a dinner party of 5 adults who had never been there before. We loved everything about this restaurant, especially the exquisite food. From the time you enter, you are greeted by a delightful hostess who immediately makes you feel welcome. The staff is professional, attentive, warm, and courteous. The highlight of course is the food, everything we ordered was superbly cooked, beautifully presented, and most of all delicious! I had the wine braised beef short ribs that were succulent and cooked to perfection served over creamy polenta, crisp vegetables, and a marrow sauce that’s bursting with flavor.. I am still raving about this dish. There is an extensive wine list to choose from, which we also enjoyed.
We all decided that we would go back to Bellanico in a heartbeat and it will be soon.
Sad that their sister restaurant, Aperto, on Potrero Hill in the City, is no longer with us. BUT, very happy we can still come over to Bellanico before Berkeley Rep -- great, varied, affordable, delicious menu and diverse, interesting wine list. Friendly service as well -- love this little place, and kudos to the owners for many years of enjoyable, high quality meals at both locations.
We met friends whom we have not seen in over a decade. The appetizers and the salumi board were wonderful. The burrata was fresh and the cured meats were excellent. The fig jam was a great counterpoint to the richness. The pastas, gnocchi and malfatti, were on-point and seasoned perfectly. It was well-sauced and portioned correctly. Could not leave without the cheesecake which was tart and not-to-sweet. We lingered far too long and our friends from Greece appreciated the European style service and enjoyed the leisurely pace of the meal.
This place was really great!
The menu was seasonal, creative and delicious. The Italian wine list was extensive, and our waitress offered plenty of advice and "splash tastes" of several different wines.
The restaurant was quiet enough that we could easily converse (but it was a weeknight- could be louder on weekends).
The service was really good- cheerful, helpful, unobtrusive.
Prices were not cheap, but totally in keeping with other similar places. Maybe a bit less pricey, in fact.
I will highly recommend Bellanico to others!
I’m a longtime loyal visitor to Bellanico. This week I took an old friend from Boston for lunch while we waited for his wife to complete a health appt. My friend is accustomed to good food and great restaurants. Bellanico was Perfect! Warm and casual with exceptional food! My favorite neighborhood restaurant!
This was our first visit on Sunday for brunch. The four of us absolutely loved the brunch tasting menu and options. The burrata was over the top as were the duck hash, smoked salmon dish and the mushroom quiche (hen of the wood mushrooms). Wonderful food, nice quantity and amazing flavors. Well done. We'll be back for dinner.
Always hard to say when one is asked what their favorite restaurant is, but I can easily say Bellanico. I have been going here since they opened. So many times restaurants lose quality after being open for a number of years, but Bellanico keeps
getting better. I get the burrata for a starter and the preparation is always different and addicting. The roast chicken is perfection. Without fail, I have the goat cheese cheesecake. I dream of it. Our server was Kia. So fun and attentive and she gave great recommendations for wine pairings. A wonderful lunch!
Some of the tables have no light over them, so I felt as though I was sitting in the dark at my small table; it made reading the menu almost impossible without the using a flashlight. I moved to the bar which was lighted enough for my 55 year old eyes, and the bartender was great, knowledgable, and gave great recommendations! Very enjoyable time!
Excellent meal! Impeccable timing on food service. My date ordered from the 4 course tasting menu and I am more of a small bites kind of person but they were perfect with having my meal come out with his primi dish. Restaurant was busy but service was smooth & attentive. The value & price are well aligned - not too little and not too much food for the cost. Nestled in a charming Glenview Oakland neighbourhood - worth the drive from both bridge and tunnel. Good for small groups of 4 or 5, or for couples.
