Bella Trattoria Italiana Ratings and Reviews
Everyone who works here is really friendly and warm. Great service without being intrusive.
The food was fabulous- we had a large range of options- all 4 of us getting different things and all were perfect. Lovely wine options and the waiter made a great mid-price range selection of what would be good with out dinners
My wife and I are regulars at Bella. I fell in love with the general manager/owner‘s great menu items. Authentic Italian food delivered in style. It’s nice to go to a restaurant where everyone knows who you are when you arrive. Always formally treated by the owner and the wait staff. Romantic atmoshere much like Venice.
Excellent atmosphere, service and food! The food was well portioned and of course, delicious. Our server Aris was kind enough to provide us with two glasses of prosecco to toast to our 7 year anniversary. They set the mood with dimmed lights as the evening continues. The food was paced perfectly and we never stopped enjoying each other's company. Bella Trattoria Italiana never disappoints!
I will go back here, and have already recommended it to friends. We were able to get a reservation here, in an area where most restaurants do not take reservations. The location (inner Richmond near GG Park) was convenient and has available street parking. They offer a lovely Primitivo, which I appreciated even more because my daughter and son-in-law work for his family winery (Domenico), and it compared favorably to theirs. My husband and I are vegans, and there were delicious options for us as well as for the omnivores. Our server was great.
This is a charming neighborhood jewel. Better during the week than compared to our weekend experience when the Dreamforce visitors descended upon the restaurant.
Service: the initial beauty of a small neighborhood restaurant, which sets the initial mood for the evening, is how timely and warmly you are greeted by your host. Our host was most professional, actually splendid and made us feel extremely welcomed.
We had our same waiter as the first time. He was superb. Impeccable. Professional. Charming. Totally on top of it, never intrusive.
Food and wine: carbonara and puttanesca pasta dishes were again fabulous, neither too salty nor overbearing with sauce. The pasta itself was perfectly prepared and didn't fall apart. The large grilled vegetable/charcuterie platter is a must-share among four. Beautiful presentation.
The wine list is extensive for a small restaurant and offers a plethora of well known and more obscure wine varietals. The list will not disappoint.
We will be coming back with more friends to introduce them to this charming, cozy Inner Richmond respite.
Love this neighborhood GEM
I'm so lucky to live near this wonderful restaurant that I think everybody in town should know about. It's more than a neighborhood gem, really. From start to finish, the food and service are beyond compare. The food at this authentic and delicious Italian restaurant can't be beat. Right now they are serving a seasonal dish that is absolutely scrumptious. Its the lightest, most delicious ravioli, paperthin, but full of flavor and butter and filled with a dreamy pumpkin ricotta filling that is mouthwatering topped with a sprinkle of melt in your mouth fried basil, believe it or not >> biscotti, sun-dried tomatoes, a slight sprinkle of Parmesan and something else I can't think of right now as I'm dreaming of this delightful dish.
A beautiful hidden neighborhood gem with a charming interior decor reminding us more of a hip cafe/bistro in France or Italy, not the Inner Richmond!
FOOD: presentation is beautiful. Our carbonara and puttanesca pasta dishes were sublime, neither skimpy nor oversalted. The alligator carpaccio is worth trying with its citrus forward notes. Alligator in general is quite bland, but this place does an outstanding job. The bread however left little to be desired: stale and lifeless. Save your calories for the entrees.
WINE: an all Italian listing with interesting, more obscure wine varietals alongside the more popular ones. A well rounded selection for such a small place.
SERVICE: The restaurant was slammed with a full house and shortstaffed on a Friday night leading to long, long waits for table service. My server forgot my wine order so I had to remind him after he brought our appetizer. We noticed that one couple left after waiting too long for service. We also noticed that the table next to us who arrived after us and who ordered after us were served first. So the front of the house clearly needs more help. Our server was polite, professional and apologetic, but the damage was already done.
CONCLUSION: Prepare for long table waits and awkward but warm, friendly service. Nonetheless, the food is outstanding. We plan to go back on a weeknight, keeping our fingers crossed that the table service kinks diminish.
This place is a lovely find. A real gem.
Grabbed a nice dinner here on our way north. We split a tasty warm spinach salad and a seafood stew. The seafood stew had a yummy tomato-based broth and was full of clams, mussels, bay scallops, shrimp, and squid. We loved it. Lots of bread to sop up the broth. And a on-the-house wanna cotta (very light) for dessert. Service was excellent.
Just went to Bella for the first time and I'll definitely be back. The pasta was very good and they had a lot of by the glass and carafe wine options, which I always appreciate. But the best thing by far was the atmosphere. This is a small room and when we went it was completely full, noisy and lively but not overwhelming. It gave off a welcoming, neighborhood-gathering vibe. Would be a great place to go with friends, as long as you didn't want intimate conversation (it is pretty loud). And I saw at least two birthdays being celebrated, so clearly I'm not the only one who finds it festive. Overall, a good experience with better-than-average pasta and wine.
We ate at Bella Osteria, which serves lunch next door to the Bella Trattoria (same owners). The owner(s) were very friendly when we approached them, and the flavors of this Neapolitan cuisine were excellent. I had the full antipasto and pappardelle with pork ragu, both wonderful and the pasta was clearly fresh. Another in our party had the special breaded pork cutlet, also excellent, and my wife had the alio/olio pasta, very flavorful.
The portions were generous and the hosts gave us a complementary (delicious) panna cotta to round out our meal.
We requested the music be toned down, which our waiter did, and thus we can have a conversation without raising our voices.
Overall, we had an excellent experience and would definitely come here again.
Dining here is always a pleasure. The food is delicious and authentic...like eating in Tuscanny. The service is top- notch. But quiet...let's keep it our little secret...if everyone knew how great Bella is, it would be impossible to get a table.
Feels like they are a growing business but they’re doing all the right things. There are some details like interior design, staff attention to detail, etc that could use some work but maybe that’s a good thing. You can walk in and get a table and have a real metropolitan level meal. What else do you need to know?
Our meal was delicious, and the service was wonderful. There were two of us, and we had two appetizers, two entrees, and a bottle of wine. Appetizers: Bruschetta and Baked Polenta. The Bruschetta was good, the polenta was wonderful. Entrees: I ordered the Arrabbiata, which does not say on the menu that it is squid ink pasta, which I do not care for. When it came out, I gave it a taste, reinforced my dislike of squid ink pasta, and sent it back. My friend ordered the Sorrentina (potato gnocchi), which was delicious, fluffy little pillows of gnocchi, so I just switched my order to that instead. Our waiter was quick and professional in switching the entree, and understanding about the squid ink pasta. Overall it was a lovely evening, we had a very good time, and will definitely be back, esp for the polenta and the gnocchi.
Food was very good, the ambiance is very pleasant, comfortable for a couple or a family. Warm spinach salad was terrific, main courses were good, dessert was great. Server seemed to want to push us, was very fast and almost didn't break stride when he checked on us during meal. We were in and out in less than one hour, which was OK but seemed pretty fast. Very good. The prices of the entrees were reasonable, but everything else (especially wine) was quite pricey.
Bella is a fantastic example of a San Francisco restaurant that manages to flourish and grow for many years. Bella has always served the most delicious meals. There are only a few restaurants in San Francisco that have been able to maintain and extend the quality of food served. We had not been to Bella in a little over a year, having moved to Marin County. We were delightfully pleased that the food may have been better than ever, that the restaurant has actually expanded in a colorful way to the bar next door, and the restaurant was full of happy diners. Really. It was a treat. What a great place!
