Excellent food at great value. Pasta was extraordinary
My boyfriend and I love this place! For the past 5 years, we've come here every year for a late Valentine's Day dinner, and will keep coming back. They've never disappointed us. The food is delicious, servers are courteous, and the experience is just amazing.
Wonderful, friendly, knowledgeable service. Great menu recommendations! We had a great time.
I went on Valentine’s day, and the atmosphere was uniquely intimate and felt exclusive. The dining room is small and dark, and the host podium blocked entrance to the dining room until they confirmed our reservation. We were nearly 30 minutes late, but called ahead and the staff were friendly and accommodating.
All of the food was at least very good. I had the beef saltimbocca as a main, and it was spectacular, but I was also impressed with the terra misu for desert. Even the bread was delicious, served simply with olive oil and sun-dried tomato. They were offering a 3 course meal because of the holiday, and even though the menu was small I still felt like I wanted to try more than I could have.
The food was outstanding--fresh and delicious and all from scratch. Service was great--this will definitely be a place we will visit again!
Went for a date night with my wife. The main restaurant is very nice but if its full and no reservation, they may offer to seat you in the Osteria next door. That is more casual and louder but they will respect your choices if you prefer to wait. I had a reservation which was honored on time and as we liked. The service was excellent, some of the most attentive and kind service I have had from the moment you enter. The wine list was moderate but well thought out with something for everyone's taste and good Italian choices. The prices for the wines were moderately priced and a bit less than they probably could charge in San Francisco. For appetizers we chose the Meatballs and some Olives. The olives were fair and designed to please all tastes. The meatballs were excellent. What stands out is the obvious freshness in ingredients that were used to make the sauce. It reminded me of some of the great sauces I had in the Boston North End. For the mains, I had the Frutt e' Mar which was had the squid ink spaghetti as well as a selection of seafood. Again, the sauce was amazing with very light and fresh ingredients. The calamari was cut small and mixed well with the sauce while the mussels and clams were nicely distributed on the side. The squid ink spaghetti was perfectly al dente and not as salty as I have had in the past which was a welcome surprise. While I would have preferred more mussels and clams, it was a very well balanced and absolutely delicious dish. My wife had the butternut squash gnocchi. The gnocchi came in a broccoli cream sauce that my wife actually preferred over the gnocchi. The sauce, in some ways, overpowered the gnocchi which were better when tasted without the sauce. The sauce itself, with the broccoli, stood out on its own. The desert choices were short but present an opportunity to grow. The tiramisu was good. Loved the experience and we will definitely be back with friends and family!
Pasta was fantastic, as usual. Best gnocchi in SF!
This was our first time at Bella and we will definitely be back! It’s a charming neighborhood Italian restaurant. Nice ambiance, phenomenal service (Zoe), delicious food. We tried many appetizers (favorite - burrata), entrees (favorite - carbonara) and desserts (favorite tiramisu) and not a single complaint from anyone in our family. In addition, they have another room next door with a bar, pool table and a menu for any size group. What a find!
When we got there we were a bit surprised about the darkness of the restaurant. But we saw that there was light there were we ate, good. We ordered the food and were waiting for it to arrive. To say is we had our boy's night out, chatting away and didn't pay very much attention to the service. So it happened they forgot to serve us the wine we had ordered. It arrived quickly when we mentioned it again to the waiter. Together with the wine and the apologies we got served an extra appetizer of great Italian cold cuts. What a lovely gesture which we really appreciated. The food was very good. We hat the maccarun, the zucca gnocchi and arrabiata spaghetti, we really enjoyed it. Skipping deserts we got offered a delicious sample of panna cotta, another nice gesture. We felt treated very well there that night and I only can recommend this place. Sure, we will be back again.
Excellent comfortable place with good Italian comfort food. Superb service. I would go back and recommend to my friends.
This was our second meal, and some of the dishes were good, but some were just so-so. For appetizers, the salads and brussel sprouts were quite good. One of us had a pasta dish that was undercooked. Another person had the trout, and it was fairly good but swimming in too much butter. The meal was fairly good overall, and the service was excellent, but I'm not sure we'll return.
Excellent service, lovely staff, helpful with menu and wine list. Incredible gluten free options for my celiac Mom. Delicious...Overall great place!
The chef was very attentive and our food was delicious!
The personal service and attention paid to us was excellent!
Server was so nice. Delicious and cozy. Will 100% return.
Attentive staff, competitive pricing, great food.
Had the trout that was overcooked and dry. The spinach on it was good & garlic-y, the Merlot also good. The cappuccino was weak! Weak cappuccino in an Italian restaurant? The waiter seemed rushed and unable to listen. The bus person was a far greater alternative for requests.
Really good food.
I love Bella. I've been there several times, and it's consistently high quality. Someday I'll try something else, but so far I've never been able to get farther than their pastas, which are some of the best I've ever had. Last week I had the maccarune, which was hearty, slightly spicy and perfect for a dismal winter night. My vegetarian partner always has multiple interesting pasta options, which we greatly appreciate. The portions are generous, but we always leave without leftovers because they are so darn good we can't stop eating. My one small niggle is with their bread, which I find a bit too soft and squishy to stand beside the hearty pasta.
One of the best features about Bella, besides the food, is how they manage to make a small, pretty standard San Francisco restaurant room feel like a romantic getaway. Judicious use of lighting, candles, and closed shutters give the place a mysterious feel, making me forget the obnoxiously busy intersection of 3rd and Geary is just steps away. It's always busy, but somehow secluded. A Friday night plate of pasta at Bella feels like an event. Good job!
Saw it on check please and it is a warm friendly place.
