This is a charming neighborhood restaurant. Excellent Italian food with friendly staff. Everyone knows everyone. Very small and cozy. Best gnocchi ever.
This restaurant never disappoints! It is very welcoming and the food is amazing. It is not overly expensive either and like the atmosphere, it is very cozy. As long as the restaurant keeps up the great service and delicious food, we will always find ourselves coming back
While I enjoy my time as always at Bella. I was not please that my reservations was for Bella but the host took me to the new restaurant next door the Osteria which is not up to par at all! The bartenders are not friendly, the servers are aggressive! Also the music is loud and does not fit the environment at all It’s a total drop off in the service department and also it doesn’t not smell good on that side. So I ask the host to seat us on the Bella side because that’s where our reservations was made for. And everything on the Bella side was great! Also it’s two different menus. I love this place but please do not change the menu and don’t bring me to the Osteria when I make reservations for Bella. Because it’s a complete different environment and experience. Thank you.
Second time eating here. First time the owner seated us and chatted with us. He's very nice and passionate about his business and what he has to offer. He gave us a personal tour of his next store space he was going to convert into extra dining space but also cafe/bar for day time business at the time. The food was delicious and the staff was very generous to offer us a couple extra things to have with our meal. That was a nice touch we very seldom have gotten anywhere else so this extra bit they put their effort into does stand out bright for in our minds and happy tummies. Would definitely recommend for others to try. Nice neighborhood gem with delicious food and drink selection.
Arrived for a 9pm reservation, and we were promptly brought to the bar for a complimentary drink by the hostess who apologized, saying that our seats will be ready only at 915. In addition, as we sat down, complimentary bruschetta was brought out.
Delicious appetizers. Incredible pastas. Great wine list. Limited beer selection but both options were local and great. Attentive staff.
Just ok. The funniest part was our waiter, who refused to listen to us bc he was so enthralled by the Dodger game on TV, lol. Being told to "hang on a second" while said water blatantly stared up at the screen, disregarding hungry patrons, is the reason we won't go back. Forgot our wine. The menu sounded good & authentic- but didn't totally deliver. Bread was stale and freeeeezing! That's the first time I've been served freezing bread with burrata. Pasta was heavy-
can tell someone sourced pasta offerings in Italy to make menu sound impressive- but were not taught to prepare in an authentically Italian way. Americanized. I would agree with other users who are confused by high star ratings. Best part was our bus boy, who was incredibly kind! :)
Great ambience. Definitely top 5 pasta in SF. If you don’t know where to start, you can’t go wrong with the carbonara.
A Great secret. Lived in the Richmond 40 years and just discovered this amazing place with friendly people and unique dishes. Well worth a try. We'll be back.
Outstanding food and service. Authentic Italian specials from antipasto thru to dessert. Parking can be a challenge so take a cab or lyft.
Service at this restaurant is impeccable. The staff were very accommodating when I arrived with a cello in tow. They put it in a safe space, and treated us really well. This is a favorite dinner spot for my husband and me -- all of the pasta dishes we've tried have been fabulous. The warm spinach salad was perfect. We always have a perfect experience at this restaurant.
The hostess was a little curt, but the rest of the staff was super welcoming and sweet. They definitely made my best friends birthday memorable
Excellent food and OUTSTANDING SERVICE.
Great value and experience.
We shall return.
We loved the meal
Our waiter was awesome
The only issue was it was very loud and hard to talk or hear
The place is a bit difficult to find as its obscured by the bus stop canopy in front of it on Geary Boulevard. The signage on the Third Avenue side was blocked by trees. The inside space is a bit tight with small tables. We were there early for dinner so the crowd had not yet come in. Don't know if the place would be too noisy if more people are there. We enjoyed the food and the service was courteous. Pricing was reasonable.
Great neighborhood gem! Lots of good pasta options including a solid gluten free pasta.
Loved it, great food and service
Outstanding food and service, as usual.
This is one of my favorite restaurants. Not only is the food amazing, but they provide a great dining experience. They are not trying to turn tables, so you do not feel rushed at all - you can sit for as long as you want and really enjoy your meal. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the food and drink selection.
Food was very tasty but the portions were so small.
Always outstanding. Have never had a meal that was not delicious. Love the vibe!
This is really terrific Italian food, crafted with care and great flavor. The value is good. Make a reservation, it is small and they are always busy. It can be a bit noisy at times depending on the groups there. Good wine list, wish they had a few more selections by the glass. Highly recommend most of the pasta dishes - been there now 5 times, no disappointments!
Waiter was fantastic...loved having "gift" of bruschetta brought to our table, and then another gift of port at the end of our dinner....super special touch.
Delicious! We had three yummy appetizers to share for five of us for lunch to start! So good! We had the buratta with olives, croistini with spread, and some perfectly created fritti calamari, onions, zucchini and green beans! Light, and delicious! Then four of the five had some very delicious pasta dishes, all different, all yummy ... and one had a pork cutlet that was cooked excellent and was bigger than a persons head! We all had different drinks throughout, and a wonderful bread with sun dried tomatoes and olive oil! Everything was great!!! We will be back!
Bella Trattoria's food was fantastic / authentic Italian. I must say we didn't sit in the original location, but next door (they're connected) at the former Buckshot that the owners took over a few months ago, which provides much more seating and a larger bar. There was a reason they weren't seating in the original site the night we went, but did not impact our first visit or the amazing food we enjoyed.
We started with spinach salad and had brussel sprouts app, plus complimentary bread & bruschetta, etc. Great way to start, everything tasted fresh and amazing. For our entree's we had the lasagna, plus the sausage / pasta dishes. My wife is 100% Italian and our meal reminded us of the family style meals we used to have on Sunday's at her family's houses. We finished our meal with a cups of cappuccino and biscotti.
All in all a great experience and wonderful service.
Bella's is our favorite Italian restaurant that has been very consistent in giving quality food at a very reasonable price. The service is very friendly and the wine selection is quite good.
After I picked my wife up at SFO, we stopped for a late supper at Bella Trattoria on our way back to Marin. Years ago we had lived around the corner from where the restaurant is located, so it was like being back in the 'hood. The restaurant was a little darker inside than we are accustomed to -- it would have been romantic but for the fact that the evening was very chilly -- but the noise level was low.
Once we were seated the service was quite good. My wife (who has high culinary standards) was very pleased with the food, as was I. The wine list was not lengthy but the offerings were reasonably priced and of good quality; we had a splendid bottle of 2012 Amarone for $88, which I considered an excellent deal.
The food was amazing, the service was dissapointing. Our server deny us the cocktail menu and told us he didn't have one even though another server gave it to the table next to us. Later when we asked again he told us he didn't want to give it to us because he was really busy and didn't want to go to the other side to get our drinks if we decide to order. We were celebrating a late valentines and drove all the way from Napa just to go to this restaurant, but unfortunately it wasn't worth it, just because of the horrible service we got. He didn't even checked if we were doing ok or if we wanted to order anything else. Literally we just order and he dropped the food and the check and never saw him again for anything else. Probably not going there again is not worth the trouble.
I love coming to Bella for a special occasion, in this case it was for my mom's birthday. I originally made the reservation for 7 which grew to 10, the server & hostess were very accommodating. They have a wide selection of appetizers, main dish, and wines.
The appetizer platter they had consisted of fresh mozzarella, sliced meat, salad, sun dried tomatoes, olives, and etc. The calamari was cooked perfected and served with a dip that was spiced to the right amount. I ordered the Sorrentina which was amazing. The gnoochi just melted in your mouth, and the pasta to meat ratio was perfect. The server also recommended a red which was quite flavorful and fruity, it seemed to go well with all the dishes that were ordered.
Everyone seemed to love their dish! I was expecting the birthday dessert to only be served to my mom, but the server was kind enough to give every single person a spoon to try the tiramisu, which is very good as well as the other which was like a flan (I could be wrong).
Excellent Food. Great service.
Excellent food at great value. Pasta was extraordinary
My boyfriend and I love this place! For the past 5 years, we've come here every year for a late Valentine's Day dinner, and will keep coming back. They've never disappointed us. The food is delicious, servers are courteous, and the experience is just amazing.
Wonderful, friendly, knowledgeable service. Great menu recommendations! We had a great time.
I went on Valentine’s day, and the atmosphere was uniquely intimate and felt exclusive. The dining room is small and dark, and the host podium blocked entrance to the dining room until they confirmed our reservation. We were nearly 30 minutes late, but called ahead and the staff were friendly and accommodating.
All of the food was at least very good. I had the beef saltimbocca as a main, and it was spectacular, but I was also impressed with the terra misu for desert. Even the bread was delicious, served simply with olive oil and sun-dried tomato. They were offering a 3 course meal because of the holiday, and even though the menu was small I still felt like I wanted to try more than I could have.
The food was outstanding--fresh and delicious and all from scratch. Service was great--this will definitely be a place we will visit again!
We’ve been here twice now and both times we were there for nearly 3 hours and not by choice. The first time they said it was bc their pasta maker was broken. They apologized and gave us free dessert. So we went back to give them a second chance recently and the wait was even longer with no excuse. We almost never saw a server, we waited for 30 minutes to even get water and menus which we had to stop servers walking by and ask for both about 3 times. Didn’t take our order for another 30 after that. The food took about an hour and a half to get to the table. :/ the service is pretty bad there. The food is very good once you finally get it.
Went for a date night with my wife. The main restaurant is very nice but if its full and no reservation, they may offer to seat you in the Osteria next door. That is more casual and louder but they will respect your choices if you prefer to wait. I had a reservation which was honored on time and as we liked. The service was excellent, some of the most attentive and kind service I have had from the moment you enter. The wine list was moderate but well thought out with something for everyone's taste and good Italian choices. The prices for the wines were moderately priced and a bit less than they probably could charge in San Francisco. For appetizers we chose the Meatballs and some Olives. The olives were fair and designed to please all tastes. The meatballs were excellent. What stands out is the obvious freshness in ingredients that were used to make the sauce. It reminded me of some of the great sauces I had in the Boston North End. For the mains, I had the Frutt e' Mar which was had the squid ink spaghetti as well as a selection of seafood. Again, the sauce was amazing with very light and fresh ingredients. The calamari was cut small and mixed well with the sauce while the mussels and clams were nicely distributed on the side. The squid ink spaghetti was perfectly al dente and not as salty as I have had in the past which was a welcome surprise. While I would have preferred more mussels and clams, it was a very well balanced and absolutely delicious dish. My wife had the butternut squash gnocchi. The gnocchi came in a broccoli cream sauce that my wife actually preferred over the gnocchi. The sauce, in some ways, overpowered the gnocchi which were better when tasted without the sauce. The sauce itself, with the broccoli, stood out on its own. The desert choices were short but present an opportunity to grow. The tiramisu was good. Loved the experience and we will definitely be back with friends and family!
Pasta was fantastic, as usual. Best gnocchi in SF!
This was our first time at Bella and we will definitely be back! It’s a charming neighborhood Italian restaurant. Nice ambiance, phenomenal service (Zoe), delicious food. We tried many appetizers (favorite - burrata), entrees (favorite - carbonara) and desserts (favorite tiramisu) and not a single complaint from anyone in our family. In addition, they have another room next door with a bar, pool table and a menu for any size group. What a find!
When we got there we were a bit surprised about the darkness of the restaurant. But we saw that there was light there were we ate, good. We ordered the food and were waiting for it to arrive. To say is we had our boy's night out, chatting away and didn't pay very much attention to the service. So it happened they forgot to serve us the wine we had ordered. It arrived quickly when we mentioned it again to the waiter. Together with the wine and the apologies we got served an extra appetizer of great Italian cold cuts. What a lovely gesture which we really appreciated. The food was very good. We hat the maccarun, the zucca gnocchi and arrabiata spaghetti, we really enjoyed it. Skipping deserts we got offered a delicious sample of panna cotta, another nice gesture. We felt treated very well there that night and I only can recommend this place. Sure, we will be back again.
