The food was excellent. Not as wide of a selection as I had hoped but what they did have was very good. Clearly the pasta was fresh. The drinks next door were very nice as well!
Pappardelle with fennel sausage is a must try! Wait staff is very accomodating and everything is delicious. What a gem in the Inner Richmond.
Wonderful little restaurant in the Richmond District. We had an excellent dinner and our waitperson was very responsive. Would highly recommend.
Absolutely delicious! Went for a double birthday with my friend and we couldn't have chosen a better place. Complimentary birthday glass of wine and all! Thank you for a wonderful experience. Will definitely be back!
We were 15 minutes late for our reservation and was nicely directed to wait next door while setting up our table of 5. We enjoyed all our dishes from antipasta through to Tiramisu. The setting and food brought up our past memorable visits to Italy. It was a wonderful evening.
Bella Trattoria is what a neighborhood Italian restaurant should be. Great food, thoughtful and attentive service, and a little dessert thrown in, because, well, the waiter thought we needed something sweet, even if we weren’t willing to order it ourselves.
Go eat here, be a little flexible about the exact time of your reservation. There aren’t that many tables ...Take time to have one of their old-school vermouth drinks and a tin of “Conserva” at the bar before dinner. You’ll be glad you did.
Bella's been one of my favorite SF spots. I've brought many people here over the years and no one's ever ate a dish they didn't like. This is the one place that does gnocchi right.
Quality, Italian food served in a cozy space. Good value.
They've taken over the space next to them and become bigger. For that reason, the six of us didn't feel
squeezed in like we usually do. The food was well prepared. Even the vegan, and the vegetarians at our table partook of the antipasta. Can't go wrong with any of the pasta dishes.
Bella has amazing food and service. This is our favorite neighborhood Italian place and we love to take family and friends there for special occasions and a nice dinner out.
We always enjoy our dinners at Bella Trattoria. The owner makes you feel like family, and the servers are friendly and welcoming. Many of the servers are Italian which adds to the experience. The food is always great and pasta dishes are fantastic. Portions are large, so we always end up with something to bring home. Really enjoyed the brussels sprouts antipasto with some pancetta. The fettuccine with osso buco was terrific - the meat was incredibly tender and the sauce was flavorful. We splurged and got gelato, including an extra scoop on the house. I hope this restaurant stays as part of the neighborhood dining scene for many more years. It's a treasure.
We went there for lunch. Their food are really good, taste like we eat in Italy.
Great! Food was delicious!
Bella is fantastic. The decor is comforting and welcoming. The service is excellent and the food is to die for.
If there was one piece of feedback, it would be to re-create the menu so it is a little more readable. I don't remember now if it is the design of the layout, the lettering, or the size of the script that makes it a little challenging, but we both said things like "what does that say?" "does that say sugo?" , etc. Otherwise, we love Bella and have brought or referred many a friend and family.
When we entered, the waiter was busy talking to the table of folks but I felt our presence should’ve been acknowledged as soon as we walked in. We were standing around for a short while till he came over. But after that, it was fine. No one to greet you and what do you do? We waited for an uncomfortably short while. The food was delicious except the chef could’ve gone lighter on the dressing for the Caesar style salad and the same with the carbonara. Could’ve cut back to half the sauce. There was a funny after taste and not sure what it was from. So that distracted from the enjoyment of the dish. The linguini was cooked just a little too long to where the clams could’ve been smoother. The other dish was a ragu one and that was fine. The bruschetta was delicious as was the table bread that came with the delicious sliced dry tomatoes in oil. The side we ate was much more conducive to holding a conversation. Overall, the dining experience went well.
Well, the evening got off to an inauspicious start when my wife and I showed up about 15 minutes early for our 8:30 reservation. We were "greeted" by a burly/overweight man who informed us that we could NOT be seated until my son was there also DESPITE us being willing to start drinks and order at the reservation time. The place was half full. Not good enough apparently. The we got shuffled to their attached cafe/bar two doors down to wait. When my son got there at 8:45 we were ready to be seated but noooooo...there were no empty tables for 3 although there were empty tables for 2 that we could have used. OK, 15 minutes later we were seated and quickly ordered a salad, appetizer, 2 pastas, and then dessert along with a glass of chianti. Table service was OK, just OK. Before tip, the total came to around $140. To be honest the food was just OK, altho the panna cotta with fresh berries was pretty good, but really below average in toto for SF. Coupled with the shabby treatment by a less than presentable maitre'd, safe to say, I'd rather eat at any hospital cafeteria than go back.
Excellent service. Excellent food! Would happily go there again.
Great atmosphere in a "family" restaurant setting with a casual feel Hard to think this is sitting on the corner of Geary and third, but you won't be disappointed. The food is great and so is the wine. Buon Apetito!
Food, as usual, was very good!
We had a great dining experience - started with wonderful complimentary bruschetta - then a wonderful meal and a great dessert. The food and the portions were perfect as well as the service. My husband accidentally left his phone and they found it and we were able to get it back. THANK YOU
Bella is always our go to when we come to town or are taking friends/family out in SF. The food is like you’re in your Italian Grandmother’s kitchen-authentic, delicious, made with passion. Gluten free options are fantastic, especially the gnocchi. Burrata appetizer is fantastic, as is the meatball appetizer. If they’ve got lasagna or Osso Buco on special, order them! Service is always great, manager is so personable. Perfect dinner every time!
Since we were in a big group, we were seated in Osteria side of things. It was noisy and wait staff was untrained. Taurus trattoria is much nicer
I really loved the ambience of the restaurant and the service was good. However, I found the food to be expensive for what you got. Also, for anyone with diet restrictions/allergies/celiac etc, there is a note at the bottom of the menu, NOT to request any modifications to the menu. I found that very disappointing and surprising. As a result, there was only one dish I could eat and I left the restaurant hungry.
Thank you Bella Trattoria for the great service and great food. We appreciated that our servers were on point when asking if we wanted more wine/water or if everything was ok. Some restaurants ask too early or too late.
All 7 of us especially the (2) birthday girls enjoyed our time there. We'll be back.
The place overall was amazing. They sat us in a private little area, the lighting was dim so very romantic. The food was absolutely delicious, I can’t say it enough. The waitress even brought us free desert. This place was more than I expected. We loved it.
Everything was excellent and our server was great! Very knowledgeable
Food was under-cooked - pasta was pretty much raw.
Flavors just seemed a bit off for Italian food but maybe I'm a harsh critic because I'm Italian.
Seemed quite expensive for sub-par food.
Great food, attentive service, relaxed atmosphere. Thank you for hosting us, Bella!
Multiple people have suggested we try this place. We finally booked a table last Friday. And there is just nothing good to report. My wife and I travel frequently to Italy, and we make a point to try basically every Italian restaurant in town. From the appetizers to both of our pasta dishes, the execution was simply poor. I had a gnocchi dish and my wife had the carbonara. The flavor, texture, and presentation of everything was just off and bordering on amateurish. In the general area, you have a number of superior options, including Fiorella, Pizzetta 211, and Sociale. Go there instead.
Amazing food and beautiful ambiance. Great spot for a date night!
Made a reservation at Bella Trattoria and was given a table at the Osteria next door. The two are NOT the same. Very disappointing and the service was amateurish.
Wonderful food and amazing service! We didn’t love the table right by the door but it was still a great experience. Would return for sure!
We stopped by for a later dinner as we were passing through SF on our way home. Our three kids were with us and I was nervous about the reception we might get. Bella Trattoria was definitely the right place to enjoy a meal for our only night in SF. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The kiddos had a wonderful time and it was a perfect meal to end our trip.
Such very nice people work there! Make a reservation for sure, since it gets very crowded.
They never disappoint. I'm a fan of the food and the atmosphere.
Food was delicious, but the service was extremely slow.
Bella Trattoria was wonderful! It’s not you’re typical Italian menu, (i.e. spinach gnocchi) but absolutely delicious nonetheless. The service was friendly, knowledgeable and quick. The portions were slightly on the larger size, but make for great leftovers. I would highly recommend this place for someone looking for great Italian food. Definitely returning. And make reservations!!!
Lovely little neighborhood gem! Best Bruschetta in the city!
The food was delicious and the service impeccable! Our server Zoe was friendly and had great suggestions about what to order and wine to drink. We will return!
Love this place!
