We've been coming to this restaurant for years, through its incarnations as Acacia (it was very good then), the Peruvian cuisine Reina (meh), and this is the third visit for it as Bella. Unfortunately, we won't return until whatever is the next iteration. This group has three other establishments in Frederick, and one gets the impression they're in the process of doing away with Bella to go to the next chapter, but not letting anyone know. The menu was knocked down to a few basics from what previously had been a rather nice range of offerings. The two pasta dishes we had were tasteless, dry, lacked any visual appeal and were overpriced. The service was disorganized and indifferent. After waiting approximately 20 minutes for the server to take the credit card with the bill and then complaining to the barkeep, we got not a hint of apology from either him or our server once he finally showed up. If you're interested in superb, reasonably priced Italian food with attentive service, drive five minutes north to Rafi's. Bella is a lost cause.
This place is amazing!!! Great but small menu. The beet gnocchi is out of this world.
It was the start of our anniversary weekend. We were actually using a BOGO coupon from Frederick Magazine. Not only were they gracious about the coupon, but they also gave us two free desserts for our anniversary. We felt guilty accepting since we were already getting a great discount. Such great customer appreciation. They noted we have been there before, which was also nice to be remembered. The bolognesi was delicious and the special pasta with peppers and meatballs was also wonderful. We can’t wait to go back. Another BOGO coupon in today’s Frederick magazine. ❤️
Our food and service was excellent. We were well taken care of my all of the staff!
This was our first time at Bella. The service was decent and the food was good-not great. Frederick has become a foodie town over the years with numerous great to fantastic options available. Therefore, expectations are high. The food was good and priced accordingly.
Fantastic food and service! 3rd time. We were well taken care of and enjoyed our meal.
Always dependable cuisine, nuanced and product-centered. Service knows what its about and is friendly but never cloying. Prices are what you expect for this level, very fair.
A great birthday dinner with family. Great food and one of our favorite spots in downtown Frederick in the outdoor patio in the rear.
There was no waiting, which was surprising considering it was Father's Day. We got outdoor patio seating. The weather was delightful and the ambience was perfect.
Our server was great and attentive. We ordered three appetizers and we were impressed by the eggplant cheesecake app. The combination didn't sound right but it was quite tasty. Worth having again.
We ordered two entrees. One was a pollo pasta reina dish which had pasta noodles shaped like a rooster crown. Very creative! The other dish was a customized napkincloth pasta with pesto and scallops. A nice combo.
Definitely worth visiting and not as crowded as other more popular restaurants.
Food was good for the most part. Small portions. Dessert left a lot to be desired. Service was awful. Had 7:30 reservations. Restaurant was far from busy. Three plus hours later we left. Slow is an understatement.
Graduation Lunch! Everything exceeded expectations. Will definitely return!
We sat at a table right at the window and enjoyed watching The first Saturday activities going on downtown while dining. The food was delicious and the portions were so big we had plenty for lunch the next day. The staff was friendly And even though there was an event going on in the back of the restaurant they were still attentive to what was going on in the front.
Always have a great meal at Bella. Reasonably priced wine choices and traditional Italian fare prepared and presented well.
Great food, classy place on a main drag in buzzing, foodie paradise that downtown Frederick has become. We had a very nice table in back near outside patio, quiet enough for easy conversation. Drifty server, young guy who had trouble focusing. Five of us got our entrees piping hot, but one of us had to wait 10 minutes for his chicken parm. They must have been chasing it down Market Street.
Wonderful atmosphere and delicious food/drinks! Can’t wait to come back here.
We started with a glass of wine at the bar and Eric was wonderful . He enthusiastically told us about some of his favorite dishes and made excellent recommendations. The happy hour specials are extensive and a good value. Dinner on the patio was lovely and Nicole was an excellent server. I will be back!
Alfredo pasta should be more seasoned and flavorful and the bread should be free with food
Compliments to the Chef! And our server Travis! My party and I enjoyed the dinner....
Most everything was good. Only thing that wasn't quite right was timing. Our warm pasta dish came out almost the same time as our salad. The main entree should have been delayed a little while longer.
We brought my grandmother here for dinner while she was in town visiting. There are a lot of traditional Italian options on the menu, everyone liked their meal. There are not many seafood options. It was rather quiet since we were there for dinner on a Saturday, they didn’t seem too busy. Overall a good experience!
Secluded Terrace patio dining is delightful. The interior is hip it looks out to garden and patio. A definite place to go for a pleasant time.
Fabulous dinner in downtown Frederick! Best Italian restaurant by far in Frederick and the full experience will not let you down. Prego!!!
This place has amazing food, but our waiter was intrusive and coerced my boyfriend into getting a meal he didn't want to get. The other staff seemed fine, I think we just got a difficult waiter. The portions are very small for how much it costs, so eat before hand or bring some money. The alcholic drinks looked very good, but were also expensive. It's a beautiful place though, a good cheat on your budget and your diet kind of place. Some of the best Italian food I've ever had... And my mother learned to cook from 100% italian grandparents!
Wonderful food, lovely setting, attentive waitstaff; a very enjoyable experience.
Food was just so-so. Was expecting better. Minestrone soup was thicker/ more tomato based than you might expect. Spaghetti Pomodoro was dry/ not very saucy. Bread - just okay. Mixed drink from the bar - just okay. Would go back if someone else wanted to go but would typically try somewhere else first.
We had reservations and were sat right away. It was so crammed in the we literally had the back of a man up against our chair. But the complaint is really the service. The waiter came to us right away and informed us he would have bread out shortly and we let him know how grateful we were because we were very hungry. He passed by us 3 more times to which we asked about the bread and he told us each time it was coming. After a long wait our food was delivered by another server who we let know that we never got our bread. Halfway through our dinner the bread arrived. I don't think any further explanation is needed as to why the service was rated a 1.
The six of us arrived in different groups due to parking. But they did not ask the first group if they wanted drinks. The second group did not even get offered water. After everyone was there is was pretty obvious we had been overlooked. Finally they took our drink order and food all together. When the starters came out we had not yet even dished them out yet when the entree’s came too. Awful.
The food was fine.
It was partly our fault for not all arriving at once.
But the service was really bad.
I took a friend who was visiting town. It was the last Saturday of restaurant week, so it was pretty busy. The food was great! Because it was later on Saturday night, they had run out of 2 of the appetizers, one of which was my first choice, the other of which was my second, so that was a bit of a bummer. But it spoke highly of the quality of those items, so I took it as a good sign. The appetizer I ended up getting was a buratta with toast points. There was a tomato and red onion salad on top, which I thought overpowered the softness and sweetness of the buratta, so I scraped it all off. It also could have used more balsamic vinegar reduction. But the buratta itself was great! For the entree, I had a seafood cannelloni that was amazing! It was piping hot though, so it took a while before I could actually dig in. Once I did though. It was outstanding. My guest had the crab risotto balls, and he loved them. He also really enjoyed the wild boar ragu over pasta (he practically licked the bowl!). We both enjoyed the dessert as well. Oh, and the cocktails were on point too! I will definitely be going back here to check out the full menu.
Great food, with many choices that went beyond classic red sauce Italian. Nice portions, fresh ideas, attentive service. Only downside was that it was a bit noisy on a crowded Friday night.
What a terrible job Bella Trattoria did showcasing themselves during Frederick Restaurant week! The place was filled and they were not clearly not prepared to handle a crowd. Our waiter was attentive but seemed overloaded - something was clearly wrong and he made me feel uncomfortable. The meal started out badly as they were out of their calamari appetizer for a 6:30 reservation. The waiter recommended a brushetta appetizer and then came back with a beef salad. When questioned he admitted he described the wrong thing but this salad was what he meant. The salad was supposed to come with a dressing but it was missing as well. My husband ordered a hot sausage sandwich with fries. He got a meatball sub instead and the fries were delivered after he finished the sub. He didn't even bother to send the meatball back as they seemed so backed up in the kitchen. Another member of our party ordered a steak medium rare. It came back medium well. And 2 of us got their signature dish made special for restaurant week and recommended by the waiter- seafood cannelloni. If it had seafood in it, it was hard to find. All I tasted was ricotta cheese - very disappointing! We got gelato for dessert. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't gelato supposed to be smooth, fluid and creamier than ice cream? The gelato we got was hard like ice milk. That experience was definitely not worth what we paid.
Eh. Food was pretty common. There are solid Italian choices downtown. Bella needs to do better if they want to stick around. Service was ok, if a bit confused. Food just didn’t have any personality. If I’m spending $15 or more for pasta, it needs to have some character.
Food was excellent. Waiter seemed overloaded.
The cocktails were delicious but the water glasses weren’t refilled during the meal. The crab balls were too salty and the chicken cacciatore was not salty enough and I had to ask for fresh Parmesan. The restaurant was busy and they were clearly understaffed.
Very nice restaurant with great service and good food.
We were sorely disappointed. Went there for Restaurant Week and you would think they would be prepared with respect to both service and food. We sat for over an hour after putting in our order before we even got the appetizers. The waiter kept blaming the kitchen over and over to the point that it was so annoying. I asked to speak with the manager and told him the delays were not acceptable. He literally just stood there and stared and me and didn't say a thing. That was bizarre.
BTW - we also saw many tables who ordered after us getting their meals well before we did, so that indicates it may have not been solely the kitchen. Regardless, it's a team effort and everyone is responsible. The sauce for one of the appetizers was like eating pure salt. The group that runs this runs some of our favorite places in Frederick, so we were surprised by how far off this place was. We won't be back.
The menu here is fresh and exciting; the food never disappoints. Service is excellent. This is my new favorite eatery in downtown Frederick.
First time here. Immediately seated in the well appointed dining room. Our server, Chase (I think) was extremely attentive. He was new to serving, but very motivated to please and genuinely pleasant. He didn't hover excessively. The super fresh, meaty mussels in garlic butter light and wonderfully NOT too salty broth was delicious. I ordered Gargarelli and my spouse ordered the lasagna bolonaise. Both came to us as generous portions, super hot fresh steaming (NOT microwaved). Nice wine list available. They only serve draft beer, no bottled beer, in case you need to know. Overall excellent experience and we will be back.
Wonderful meal. Sat in the back dining room - 2 adults. We had the Ribbon Pasta, spaghetti and meatballs, wine and the Granny Apple desert - just lovely.
Our server, Sefton, was wonderful- very polite, kind, soft spoken in a very nice way and professional. We will be back.
Nice bar in the front area and a nice selection of choices.
great food food wonderful salad very reasonably priced. Would definitely revisit
