Great restaurant! Food and service could not be beat. Only problem is the availability of parking in the area. Allow 15 extra minutes to circle the block.
Had a lovely date night here! Bella Gioia is such an adorable and underappreciated neighborhood gem. From the outside I would have never guessed how gorgeous the interior decoration and ambiance are. Our server Yokasta was really friendly and had great recommendations when we were struggling to choose between options on the menu. The deep fried burrata, the calamari, and the veal Marsala were all especially delicious!
We had a lovely evening at Bella Gioia. The food was very good and enhanced by the very pleasant server Yoka. She was very attentive and served our food piping hot. We weren't familiar with Sicilian wine so she offered to let us taste her recommendation. A group of 12 came in without a reservation, but she handled them very well. She didn't panic like most other servers would. We will return for the fritto misto and excellent pizza.
Stopped in with a friend after eyeing the place for several weeks. The meal was very good. The fried burrata appetizer with grilled bread was almost a meal itself. I'd go back for that and the oxtail ragu anyday!
Another delicious meal at Bella Gioia... food is excellent and the drinks are terrific. Staff is pleasant and efficient. We will be back! Fried burrata appetizer was delish! Thanks again!
The best kept secret in Brooklyn. Delicious, great ambiance, authentic dishes, and great service.
This was our second and probably last time there. The salads were good. We ordered veal Marsala and the sauce wasn’t right felt like way too much flour and the veal was super chewy. We ordered a $13 glass of wine got served with wine in what probably was a cognac glass that was a quarter full. The pasta was described to us as “ grainy right out of the box”. Went at a peak time and the place was empty.
Great space. Wished for a less American take and more authentic approach to the food. Slightly confused and bland taste. Delicious drinks. Hopefully they will commit to their story and refine the dishes.
Best Italian food in NYC!
Bella gioia is a must try if your in the tri state area food is fantastic and service is top notch chef nico and chef Angel are the best around town..... best Italian in Brooklyn
Couldn’t be better. Great food (meat and cheese plates followed by scallops and lobster risotto) and an excellent, accommodating and friendly service
Everything was fantastic but the service needs some improvement.
Wouldn’t go back. Service very low.
Incredibly good Sicilian food, very good atmosphere, interesting physical structure reminded us of a large brick oven, would absolutely recommend this restaurant.
Great dining experience. Best charcuterie platter I have ever had and the pizza was fantastic. Will definately come back 😊
I was embarrassed to have brought my family here. Bizarre, terrible service, icky environment, and genuinely bad food. There is no host(ess) to greet you upon entering. Wander into the middle of the restaurant and flag down a staff member to reluctantly seat you. The place smelled weird. Insanely loud. Tables were dirty. Food was barely edible. Waitstaff was negligent and uninformed. How on earth does this have a 4+ star rating on OpenTable?
Exceptional food and service.
Real Italian speakeasy vibe
Booked Family party immediately
Ambiance, service, and drinks were great. Unfortunately food was mediocre.
NYC half marathon pre dinner
Great experience. Our servers were attentive and took good care of us. The restaurant is gorgeous. Try it!
We had a really nice dinner at Bella Gioia the other night. It was our first time, despite living in the area, we had never noticed it before it came up on a search for reservations. What a hidden gem! The room is really pretty and rustic, cozy and welcoming, and it's great to be able to see the open kitchen where all the action is at. We were there with our 11 year old son at 7pm on a Saturday night and he was the only kid in the place. It's not surprising, because while there are a few good food choices (including pizza) for children, the vibe is more of a date night place or spot for a festive group celebration. The staff was very nice and attentive -- and without attitude, not your typical Brooklyn hipsters--even though they were very busy and we had a really nice night. The food is rustic Sicilian and very nicely done. We shared the deep fried burrata appetizer to start---divine!--and then had the pappardelle with oxtail ragu (simple, but really delicious), the seared chicken with artichoke hearts and green beans (good but not exciting), and the really interesting tumminia pasta with a sicilian pesto. The pesto is red, not green like pesto genovese -- it's made of almonds, tomatoes and herbs and it's unusual and delicious. The portions were huge and we brought enough food home to have lunch the next day so plan accordingly if you're not starving. We'll be back!
Food was a bit inconsistent but I have been there before and this was unusual.
Always great! One of our go to places.
The food, fantastic. The ambiance - great. Great waitress and the Negroni was top-notch. Arancini were amazing. Fantastic. The owner was a curmudgeon though - causing a scene and complaining about me using a promotional discount that they had put out. Great dinner tainted by a negative vibe. But I'll go back... probably.
Best pasta fagioli anywhere. Meat/cheese plates consistently excellent. Never disappoints.
Staff was nice but service a bit slow. Food was mediocre. Pasta fagiolo was pretty tasteless and mushy. Charcuterie and cheese was good. Burrata salad good. Seemed hit or miss. Drinks average.
This was my first time to this lovely restaurant and is now my favorite. The atmosphere is quite cozy. You feel like you are on a set in a movie. The service was great and the food was terrific!. You must try the truffle risotto - it was delicious!
Bella Gioa is a great restaurant.
The food is absolutely delicious and amazingly presented.
The service was exceptional.
Great food. Great service. Would definitely come back
The fried burrata is the most amazing dish ever!
We were in early for a pre game (at Barclay Center) meal so there weren't many other diners at the time. Service was prompt, friendly and efficient. We had the baked potato gnocchi and pumpkin raviolis. Both were quite good. The restaurant itself is a rustic brick and wood affair and is worth a try.
The food was amazing. The service was warm and friendly and the room was very casual and comfortable. My cousin’s Sicilian-American wife, a terrific cook herself, loved it. We may have a new favorite restaurant.
Great place if you're looking for a place with a cozy feel that doesn't get too loud.
The food is alright. The arancini wasn't worth it, but the pastas were quite good. Also note that portion sizes are quite large here.
Cozy rustic ambiance. I have walked by so many times in the daytime & was unable to see how pretty it is inside as it it doesn’t open till 5:30 PM. Sunday it does open at 2 . I’m so glad that we finally took a chance . Delicious Sicilian food. Loved the small pie we shared as an appetizer. Mushroom Risotto was great & my boyfriend loved his meatballs & oxtail ragu.
Amazing food, and such great service. The building , decor and atmosphere are also all unique and create a great ambiance. We will be back here for sure.
I dined here with coworkers to celebrate some business milestones. The staff was very welcoming, attentive, and patient. Once we ordered, the food came quickly. We ordered an appetizer round of the arancini, frittu mistu, and deep fried buratta which we shared family style. They tasted great, and the presentation was excellent. For our mains we ordered individually, and the Nvernu salad is fantastic. We ended the evening sharing the mela which is a delicious poached apple. It takes a while to prepare and our server apologized multiple times (even though we honestly were not concerned about the timing).
Overall, this is a solid choice. It's a comfortable atmosphere that allowed us to have a leisurely and enjoyable celebration.
Very authentic and delicious food! My date was Italian and suggested the restaurant as well as menu picks which was great. I especially loved our wine selection and the meatball appetizer. Was pretty full after that but found space for my yummy main course. We split the tiramisu which unfortunately couldn't be finished because we were stuffed!
All in all, a lovely experience. And not to forget the staff, they were wonderful as well. Will definitely be back!
Food was great and the restaurant has good ambience and is quiet enough to have a conversation without having to yell. Really great to grab a bite during the week.
Good vibes, fast service, amazing food. Sad they were out of panna cotta but the tiramisu was excellent...so not too sad.
Excellent delicious authentic Sicilian food in a cozy welcoming setting with great service. We will be back!
