Bella Gioia is one of my favorite restaurants in my neighborhood and in New York. The food is always terrific without exception, as is the service and atmosphere. The people, from the hosts to the bartenders to the servers to the chefs are wonderful people who take pride in what they do. I really can’t recommend this place enough. I’ve been here at least 15-20 times, so you can definitely trust this review.
We were in town on business and actually ate dinner here two evenings in a row. It was highly recommended by a desk person at our hotel, and it did not disappoint! The service was great and the food was amazing. I tried different things each time and loved everything I got. The butternut squash soup was delicious, as was the chicken with green beans (pictured. Not the name of it, but I’m not Italian.😄) The bread and blood orange margarita were also fantastic.
The ragu was not good at all.
Beat gnocchi of my life!
Great menu, BUT: Steak dishes came with sides of fries that were ridiculously huge. Enough for 3 entrees. Chicken Picatta should have been pounded for more tenderness. Good wine selection. Knowledgeable hand. Very "Brooklyn" and enjoyable.
I was there for my birthday overall the food was great, but the service was less then desirable and the dessert was not great. I would however go again and give this place another chance.
Bella Gioia really delivered for my birthday here last Saturday. The service and the food were stellar!!
Best place in Park Slope
Went here for my wife’s birthday and the staff and food were excellent! Highly recommend for any occasion
Bella Gioia has good food at a good price. Their cocktails are were very good, too. Their servers were very hospitable to working with my family for some of the more annoying dietary requests they had.
First time going to Bella, we enjoyed it very much. We went with another couple, ordered 3 appetizers and a cheese and meat plate, 2 of the appetizers were excellent, the other the tempura fried vegetables were just ok. We order the veal chop, a pasta with a oxtail ragu that was excellent. My wife ordered gnocchi rustica which as baked gnocchi. Also very good. We finished it off with tiramisu and cannoli's that were pretty good as well. Overall we all really liked the place and would go back. The atmosphere was good and they didn't rush us one bit. It deserves 4-4.5 stars.
From the moment my wife and I walked into Bella Gioia, we were impressed by the decor and the ambiance. We were cordially greeted and seated with 2 minutes of walking in the door. That is impressive enough, but the food and attentiveness of the entire staff ensures that we will return. The deep fried buratta and the rice balls alone made the meal a success, add the Gnocchi Rustica and the Short Ribs, you have a customer for life!!
We dined at Bella Gioia for the first time on Saturday, 11/3/18. We had a wonderful time and will definitely make sure we return. The food was fantastic. For appetizers, we enjoyed the arancini and meatballs. For entrees, my husband had the oxtail ragu pappardelle and I enjoyed the gnocchi rustica. Both were great and served in big portions. For dessert we had the gelato trio and the brownie. Overall we really did have a great experience. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive. As I stated before, we will absolutely be returning.
Going to a show at Barclay's and saw the reviews on this restaurant, and gave it a try. Great spot, will definitely go back. Food, service, atmosphere, all top shelf. They have been there five years, and they know what there doing.
The chef prepared some amazing food and we all loved what we ate from the special baked clams appetizer, amazing roasted fennel and apple salad to the ragout pasta course-we will definitely come back. They could use a better selection of Gins for their cocktails but that's nothing to shy away from enjoying your meal here.
Great food for sure. I thought the ambiance was great and felt like being back in Sicily again.
Bella gioia is always top notch best Italian in Brooklyn best Italian in the tri state area
My sister and I were in Brooklyn a couple of days for The Magnificat conference. Bella Gioia was within walking distance of our hotel so we tried it for dinner the first night. Our food was so delicious that we opted to go there the second night. Might seem crazy but we didn't really want much of a drive b/c it was kind of late and we knew the food was great. Not disappointed at all. The Pumpkin Ravioli was to die for!! Rigatoni All Norma was truly flavorful and a large portion (took back half for lunch the next day). The Barbabietola salad is very tasty and enough to share. Arancini were a little different than I'm used to but very tasty. Calamari Fritti was great with a nice spicy marinara sauce. It's a cozy, corner restaurant - authentic Old World feel. The noise level can get a bit loud when its full but that didn't take away anything for us. All in all - I highly recommend.
Great food and great service! Definitely will be back!
1) There were zero greetings upon arrival and/or seating
2) Weak wait service during a not-so busy dining area and time. We were seated and waiting for at least 10 minutes with multiple wait staff passing or walking by. Some of the wait staff just stood by and did nothing when clearly we were waiting and I was asking for basic service
3) After at least 10 minutes we were given a menu but no water was served.
4) We kindly told the bartender that we were leaving immediately after the lack of customer service on a non-busy evening (e.g., empty bar and a lot of open table/seating)
5) As a 5+ year member of OpenTable originally from Brooklyn, it's very rare for me to write a negative review so this is a rare unfortunate situation. However, the ambiance and interior decor was nice.
Love Bella Gioia! The food was excellent!
I found this spot while searching for a nice dinner destination for my wife and I prior to a show at a nearby venue, and I'm glad I did because it's and outstanding, complete restaurant. Go for the food (they care about detail) and enjoy the ambience. The service was taut but relaxed and the the vibe of the place put us both at ease the moment we walked in.
The chefs Angel and Paola are amazing!!! The food and the passion Of their creations constitute a true Gem
great atmosphere and lovely decor.
Pasta dish was a bit bland and overcooked
Sicilian food is simple at best their dishes have a lot going on
Swordfish with gingered mint on top and spicy caponata with a cauliflower puree
and cannelinin beans just way to much fluff let the fish be the star
The staff was friendly, but had some trouble getting the order of the courses right. We were rushed through the meal, which was good because the A/C must have been on energy saver mode and I sweated my way through dinner. The food, generally bland. My wife's first attempt at Pasta alla Norma was noticeably better].
We will continue our quest to find a good Sicilian restaurant.
Great restaurant! Food and service could not be beat. Only problem is the availability of parking in the area. Allow 15 extra minutes to circle the block.
Had a lovely date night here! Bella Gioia is such an adorable and underappreciated neighborhood gem. From the outside I would have never guessed how gorgeous the interior decoration and ambiance are. Our server Yokasta was really friendly and had great recommendations when we were struggling to choose between options on the menu. The deep fried burrata, the calamari, and the veal Marsala were all especially delicious!
We had a lovely evening at Bella Gioia. The food was very good and enhanced by the very pleasant server Yoka. She was very attentive and served our food piping hot. We weren't familiar with Sicilian wine so she offered to let us taste her recommendation. A group of 12 came in without a reservation, but she handled them very well. She didn't panic like most other servers would. We will return for the fritto misto and excellent pizza.
Stopped in with a friend after eyeing the place for several weeks. The meal was very good. The fried burrata appetizer with grilled bread was almost a meal itself. I'd go back for that and the oxtail ragu anyday!
Another delicious meal at Bella Gioia... food is excellent and the drinks are terrific. Staff is pleasant and efficient. We will be back! Fried burrata appetizer was delish! Thanks again!
The best kept secret in Brooklyn. Delicious, great ambiance, authentic dishes, and great service.
This was our second and probably last time there. The salads were good. We ordered veal Marsala and the sauce wasn’t right felt like way too much flour and the veal was super chewy. We ordered a $13 glass of wine got served with wine in what probably was a cognac glass that was a quarter full. The pasta was described to us as “ grainy right out of the box”. Went at a peak time and the place was empty.
Great space. Wished for a less American take and more authentic approach to the food. Slightly confused and bland taste. Delicious drinks. Hopefully they will commit to their story and refine the dishes.
Best Italian food in NYC!
Bella gioia is a must try if your in the tri state area food is fantastic and service is top notch chef nico and chef Angel are the best around town..... best Italian in Brooklyn
Couldn’t be better. Great food (meat and cheese plates followed by scallops and lobster risotto) and an excellent, accommodating and friendly service
Everything was fantastic but the service needs some improvement.
Wouldn’t go back. Service very low.
Incredibly good Sicilian food, very good atmosphere, interesting physical structure reminded us of a large brick oven, would absolutely recommend this restaurant.
Great dining experience. Best charcuterie platter I have ever had and the pizza was fantastic. Will definately come back 😊
