Very delicious food, friendly staff, highly recommend.
The decor is very nice, drinks were good, and the service was good. The food just wasn’t that great. The gnocchi had 2” of mozzarella over the whole thing. We had to dig and search under the cheese for the gnocchi, and the sauce wasn’t anything special. The chicken we ordered was fine but a bit dry. Had a very nice night there but the food was disappointing.
We enjoyed a wonderful meal in Brooklyn at this neighborhood gem. The waitstaff was so lovely and very knowledgeable about the Scicilian wine list. We will return! Try the lemoncello after dinner...
Phenomenal!!! I eat out often and usually leave a star review with no comment. Bella Gioia deserves one. From the ambiance to service to the food, the whole experience was amazing. The food though WOW. I will be returning soon and bringing friends. Thank you Bella Gioia for a wonderful Sunday dinner.
Very friendly and attentive group.
Food is consistently good and enjoyable.
You won’t go wrong!
Good food, good ambience, good service. Overall an ideal dining experience
Great food and staff.
Go! Great place! Terrific food and great value. You'll love it
This is a gem. Excellent food and great service. Best Italian restaurant I've been to in years. The beet salad is unbelievable and the chicken piccata was amazing. You can't go wrong.
Great atmosphere, excellent food( oxtail rage was amazing)
Attentive service, without any being overbearing. Great atmosphere. Excellent food. Chef Nico is a rising star, his restaurant is a jewel.
Food is great, ambiance is very relaxed and low key. Service is a touch slow but it goes along with the vibe. Would 100% come back. Oxtail Ragu and the aracini we’re both amaze balls
Excellent food and service. We will definitely be coming back soon :)
This restaurant's setting is extremely charming. Location is pretty good in Gowanus. Maybe they usually have a host managing the flow of tables, but the night that we went they did not (Thursday, 2/14/19). Also, we had a reservation which I saw on their iPad, however we got a message from OpenTable asking us why we did not honor our reservation. OpenTable resolved the issue, though, and at the end of the day it was fine. The food was good - nothing to write home about, but decent. I think we would have enjoyed everything much more if the service was a little better. Our server did her best, but there was so much time between ordering our meal and the arrival of our drinks, etc. Again, it wasn't horrible, it just could have been better.
Great food, fantastic drinks. Loved the ambiance. Feels like you're in a wine cellar/barrel. There is no loud overbearing music playing, so we were all able to hear each other speak. Waitress was friendly, attentive and was very patient w us and our large party. I need to come back here more often!
Great food! Great service! Great drinks! If there is a wait it’s worth it!!
Food portions are large but unfortunately the food is not quality or that tasteful. Streak was super grisly and the pasta was not nice at all.
Food is phenomenal and atmosphere is perfect for casual dining ....menu is authentic Sicilian and has eclectic dishes
Everything we ordered was amazing. The service was phenomenal down to the recommendation of the wine. The portions are perfect. We ordered the Fried Burrata, the meat/cheese board (hot salami, parmigianno, prosciutto), NY strip (with Gorgonzola. A HIT!) and ended with the PB Gelato Brownie. Def. would make the trip again.
Great neighborhood spot with great god and generous portions... and our server was amazing!
Bella Gioia is one of my favorite restaurants in my neighborhood and in New York. The food is always terrific without exception, as is the service and atmosphere. The people, from the hosts to the bartenders to the servers to the chefs are wonderful people who take pride in what they do. I really can’t recommend this place enough. I’ve been here at least 15-20 times, so you can definitely trust this review.
We were in town on business and actually ate dinner here two evenings in a row. It was highly recommended by a desk person at our hotel, and it did not disappoint! The service was great and the food was amazing. I tried different things each time and loved everything I got. The butternut squash soup was delicious, as was the chicken with green beans (pictured. Not the name of it, but I’m not Italian.😄) The bread and blood orange margarita were also fantastic.
The ragu was not good at all.
Beat gnocchi of my life!
Great menu, BUT: Steak dishes came with sides of fries that were ridiculously huge. Enough for 3 entrees. Chicken Picatta should have been pounded for more tenderness. Good wine selection. Knowledgeable hand. Very "Brooklyn" and enjoyable.
I was there for my birthday overall the food was great, but the service was less then desirable and the dessert was not great. I would however go again and give this place another chance.
Bella Gioia really delivered for my birthday here last Saturday. The service and the food were stellar!!
Best place in Park Slope
Went here for my wife’s birthday and the staff and food were excellent! Highly recommend for any occasion
Bella Gioia has good food at a good price. Their cocktails are were very good, too. Their servers were very hospitable to working with my family for some of the more annoying dietary requests they had.
First time going to Bella, we enjoyed it very much. We went with another couple, ordered 3 appetizers and a cheese and meat plate, 2 of the appetizers were excellent, the other the tempura fried vegetables were just ok. We order the veal chop, a pasta with a oxtail ragu that was excellent. My wife ordered gnocchi rustica which as baked gnocchi. Also very good. We finished it off with tiramisu and cannoli's that were pretty good as well. Overall we all really liked the place and would go back. The atmosphere was good and they didn't rush us one bit. It deserves 4-4.5 stars.
From the moment my wife and I walked into Bella Gioia, we were impressed by the decor and the ambiance. We were cordially greeted and seated with 2 minutes of walking in the door. That is impressive enough, but the food and attentiveness of the entire staff ensures that we will return. The deep fried buratta and the rice balls alone made the meal a success, add the Gnocchi Rustica and the Short Ribs, you have a customer for life!!
We dined at Bella Gioia for the first time on Saturday, 11/3/18. We had a wonderful time and will definitely make sure we return. The food was fantastic. For appetizers, we enjoyed the arancini and meatballs. For entrees, my husband had the oxtail ragu pappardelle and I enjoyed the gnocchi rustica. Both were great and served in big portions. For dessert we had the gelato trio and the brownie. Overall we really did have a great experience. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive. As I stated before, we will absolutely be returning.
Going to a show at Barclay's and saw the reviews on this restaurant, and gave it a try. Great spot, will definitely go back. Food, service, atmosphere, all top shelf. They have been there five years, and they know what there doing.
The chef prepared some amazing food and we all loved what we ate from the special baked clams appetizer, amazing roasted fennel and apple salad to the ragout pasta course-we will definitely come back. They could use a better selection of Gins for their cocktails but that's nothing to shy away from enjoying your meal here.
Great food for sure. I thought the ambiance was great and felt like being back in Sicily again.
Bella gioia is always top notch best Italian in Brooklyn best Italian in the tri state area
My sister and I were in Brooklyn a couple of days for The Magnificat conference. Bella Gioia was within walking distance of our hotel so we tried it for dinner the first night. Our food was so delicious that we opted to go there the second night. Might seem crazy but we didn't really want much of a drive b/c it was kind of late and we knew the food was great. Not disappointed at all. The Pumpkin Ravioli was to die for!! Rigatoni All Norma was truly flavorful and a large portion (took back half for lunch the next day). The Barbabietola salad is very tasty and enough to share. Arancini were a little different than I'm used to but very tasty. Calamari Fritti was great with a nice spicy marinara sauce. It's a cozy, corner restaurant - authentic Old World feel. The noise level can get a bit loud when its full but that didn't take away anything for us. All in all - I highly recommend.
Great food and great service! Definitely will be back!
1) There were zero greetings upon arrival and/or seating
2) Weak wait service during a not-so busy dining area and time. We were seated and waiting for at least 10 minutes with multiple wait staff passing or walking by. Some of the wait staff just stood by and did nothing when clearly we were waiting and I was asking for basic service
3) After at least 10 minutes we were given a menu but no water was served.
4) We kindly told the bartender that we were leaving immediately after the lack of customer service on a non-busy evening (e.g., empty bar and a lot of open table/seating)
5) As a 5+ year member of OpenTable originally from Brooklyn, it's very rare for me to write a negative review so this is a rare unfortunate situation. However, the ambiance and interior decor was nice.
