Bella Costa Ratings and Reviews
Met some friends for dinner. Loved the seared scallops on yellow beets. Veal saltimbooca was delicious, although I could not finish I enjoyed it the next day for lunch. Very relaxed atmosphere. We did not feel rushed at all. Staff was very attentive and personable. Will definitely go back.
The piccata was not good. The sauce was really thick and goopy vs creamy or wine based with lemon. The sauce was in the consistency of pudding. They should really look at how this is prepared. The Oreo dessert was yummy. The kid's pasta was very little/skimpy for the price. Noodle are cheap and so were the portions.
They sat us right next to the door and it was freezing for our entire meal. There were plenty of other seats that were open.
Service was ine.
Great food at a great price. You won't leave hungry, even mundane items like Meatball appetizer are fantastic.
The entree's are created by someone that obviously cares about what they are serving. Even the seafood pasta was done to perfection, with multiple shellfish meats, nothing overcooked, nothing undercooked.
The only complaints I have are minor ones. First....the place is popular and crowded, and a bit noisy when the dining room is full. It's not a "quiet dining experience" during dinner hours. Still, there is a live piano player, and the ambiance is great.
My only other complaint, also minor, is that after such a great Italian style meal, I do really enjoy a cappucino...but my last two trips, this has not been available. It would be a nice after dinner drink on a winter evening.
Would I go back? ABsolutely. Going back this week, in fact. There are more things on the menu I am dying to try.
Our TJX group loved the food, seating and Jimmy, our waiter. Jimmy was extraordinary and very accommodating. The food was tasty, well presented and nutritious and the small plates for a few of the ladies was perfect. Personally, I have been coming to Bella Costa for many years and it is a great location for many of us who live and work in the local area!! A great find and we will be back.
We chose Bella Costa because it was a half way point for two different couples. What a find! It's location in kind of a strip mall was a bit unnerving, but the doors opened to a comfortable, warm and friendly location. The menu was excellent; servings overly generous, but small plates are offered. A nice feature for we older folks with smaller appetites. Our friends were equally pleased. We will return!
I had hoped this review could be more positive, but I was disappointed. It's too bad because Bella Costa used to be one of our favorites. The restaurant is over crowded, with too many tables shoved in to the front room. It is excessively noisy, the waiter was kind, but overworked, and the food was not good enough to make up for the rest of the negatives. Definitely paid too much for the experience.
Easily scheduled and welcoming wife and me early in Saturday night. First timer -They sat us in a room away from the piano and told us after dinner we should sit in the room with the piano for a romantic feel. Thanks. Why not do that for us at the empty tables when we first arrived? All very fresh and good and creative too (grilled Caesar). That seating glitch the only negative for a good southern Italian meal!
The wait staff was friendly and very attentive. The food was outstanding. I had the chefs special of pumpkin ravioli and it was the spot on right decision. The other two people in my group had other dishes and both liked them very, very much. I would easily suggest this restaurant.
Folks at host stand were great. Service was very slow and a bit inefficient. Server was friendly but kept apologizing for the wait and thanking us for our patience. However, since she realized this you would think she may have offered is a cup of coffee or similar on the house. The menu item that two of us chose was ok but we felt different than the description. It was the Harvest special. This was my third visit and the previous two were definitely more enjoyable.
Our server, Mark, was spectacular. We had gone to Bella Costa for a special occasion and he made everyone (11 of us) feel at home and welcomed. He even remembered us from another time we were there for a different celebration. The food was fabulous and the portions generous. I hated to leave when it was time. That's how special we felt!
The experience started off confusing with a jam-packed parking lot used for the KFC next door and a dive lottery place. But then I saw there was free Valet parking... The valet was very friendly and accommodating, which picked up my mood and concern.
At the door, we were greeted warmly, but seated near the bar, despite having a reservation (no "reserved" sign on the table as we noticed on other tables. This turned out to be one of the low-points of the night - see below.
The bar is reasonably well stocked (would have liked a few more high-end options, but they were also very friendly.
I would up sitting with my back to the bar. The person behind me sitting at the bar, despite his short stature, had his legs straight out pressed against the bar, pushing his chair back so everyone (mostly servers) who walked between us wound up hitting me in the back or head. Even the owner didn't say anything to him, despite speaking with him for quite a while - no doubt a regular.
From observing the traffic flow, I think one less table wouldn't impact their business and create more space between sitting customers so they could have perhaps a little more privacy and peace.
There was also a piano and drums - too loud, and lots of off notes. As a musician, I found it more intrusive than enjoyable.
The appetizer (Calamari with spicy peppers) was overcooked. I grant that it's hard to cook Calamari correctly, but either the oil hasn't been changed in a while, was way too hot, or it was just left in far too long. The peppers were tase, but the Calamari tasted like fried rubber bands.
The homemade pasta was al dente and excellent, but ruined by the acidic red sauce. The veal was pounded into submission, overcooked, and dry. The eggplant was better than average.
Pricing was OK, but I expected better food for the ambiance and price.
I overtipped, and while not looking for special recognition, would have appreciated at least a "thank-you". Thankfully, I got that from the Valet.
Mixed review... Very crowded but w/a reservation only had to wait a few minutes for them to set up our table for 4. Layout was horrible, there was no place to stand out of the way of the servers /bussers that had to walk the length of the restaurant to the kitchen! Service was meh, food was excellent and price reasonable for portion size. Drinks a bit pricey. Enjoyed my leftovers the next day too!
Bella Costa is very much a true, true Italian restaurant! The menu was innovative, very well prepared, and the service was actually able to intelligently advise us on the nuances of the pasta and the different plates we were considering.
Very much recommend it as an authentic neighborhood, Italian restaurant.
