American
The food program at BBC revolves around local, organic, sustainable and overall responsible procurement. The menu cycles are seasonal and heavily influenced on production from the aeroponic roof-top tower garden. Finding inspiration in the regions of America and focusing on the contemporary aspect and eclecticism of the melting pot, BBC's food strives for an element of originality and individualism. Much like its West Village location, BBC has a social, casual and relaxed atmosphere but is serious about interesting food and drink

We were waiting for our friend who was stuck on the subway. Bartender was wonderful, and the other staff were very accommodating.
Plus dollar oysters at the bar!

Not what I was expecting. Very little food for 125.00 for 3 people. Service and ambiance was very good.

The space is fun, the food would be pretentious if it wasn't executed so nicely. Solid flavors, intelligent preparations and a menu which was properly ambitious but not overly so. A very enjoyable meal, and we will be back.

I have loved Bell Book & Candle for many years. Unfortunately, the food has gone down in overall quality. The roasted veggie plate they use to serve was fresh, tasty and featured so many different vegetables that were in season. I have tried the veggies in romesco broth on multiple occasions and it continues to be tasteless and ill prepared. The drunken bean dip also didn't taste freshly made and was served cold. There aren't many veggie options overall and it's a shame when the options they have has diminished in freshness, taste, and quality.

Great taste and good price / performance.

The starters were of very high quality and the main courses were outstanding.

We hope to be able to visit again in the future.

Love this place. Service is always friendly, relaxed, and attentive. Food is always excellent and very fresh, with unusual little twists to discover; who knew deviled eggs could be fried?! The atmosphere is homey and quiet...we could actually have a conversation at the height of friday dinner hour. The lovely staff just kick all of that over the top.

Our party of 5 all Had a good meal. Liked this lively west village restaurant. A bit Loud, but you can sit in the back which is much quieter. Took a long x to get our meal over 85 mins between appetizer + entree. Had a fun time ! Looks like a fun bar.

I went to this restaurant last year, shortly after it opened, and loved it. But when I went two nights ago, it was a disaster. The food courses varied from bland to vile-tasting. The service was unbelievably bad. When over 30 minutes elapsed after our appetizer with no sign of the entrees coming, and no attention from our server, I finally had to get up, find the server, and ask what the delay was. After that the entrees finally came, but with no explanation for the delay. The restaurant was almost empty, which made the wait even more mystifying. If the food had been good, perhaps the wait might have been worth it, but it was dreadful. My salmon was utterly flavorless; the accompanying spinach was served in a solid lump and tasted as if it had been sauteed in rancid butter. (My appetizer, prosciutto, was dark and dry and tasted of death.) I told good friends about my experience, and they had been to the restaurant the week before and were equally disappointed. None of us are going back. Sorry to report this, and I rarely go out of my way to write about unsatisfying experiences, but the owners, management, and cooks at this place need to be called to task.

This is really a Pub - bit in the best of possible ways. There are larger booth tables that can accommodate 7 or 8 people. There's a surprising amount of natural light given it is in the basement (skylights above the booth tables in the back). The food was far better than you would expect at a pub.

Outstanding food and cocktails, everything was wonderful, down to the service.
Only critique would be that a little less seasoning would be better - I had the stewed veggies with poached egg and that was really too salty. The food is already perfectly cooked and super tasty, this just feels like the chef needs to trust himself more instead of going heavy on the salt!

Perhaps because it was Valentines, the staff seemed harried and a bit unfriendly, although when we arrived, the place was pretty empty. Our waitress did not seem to like us after we asked to be moved to a table further from the noisy kitchen and then requested the speaker right above our table be turned off. The food was mediocre (other than the salad) and my vegetable casserole undercooked.

Below average service. Wildly uneven table surface made eating the delicious food a delicate task. Too much money for too little of an experience. Disappointing - BB&C has been a favorite spot for years.

Charming bar space that provokes interest in a return, the spacious banquets deeper into the establishment were a welcoming place to catch up over a solid brunch with old friends. Calming blue based aesthetic, attentive if a bit frenetic service, option of complimentary sparkling or still - i LOVE that!

My friend and I met for our monthly catch-up dinner and loved Bell Book & Candle! The bar area is small but good for a quick drink before sitting for dinner. We shared an entree and two appetizers and it was just the right amount of food. Friendly and causal atmosphere -

Sat at bar first for a great Happy Hour with dollar oysters and delicious drinks. The bartender (and later waitress) was super busy but every interaction was with a smile. We had a great runner/server who delivered the food. Delicious buratta, soup and warm delicious rolls. Had pasta, friends had fish and short ribs. Everything and everyone so nice. Thanks!

I was here for dinner last year and had a great experience, so I was looking forward to going from brunch. Unfortunately service was disorganized and disappointing. My friend ordered the hamburger, which was good but presentation was disappointing. Literally just put a burger between two pieces of bread and stuck it on a plate, which I could have done at home. I had the turkey club which was actually pretty good. But service was not friendly and disappointing the whole time which doesn't make me want to return.

Loved my experience at Bell Book & Candle. My party and I had the testing menu which was pretty good. Only bummer is that the tasting menu doesn’t end with dessert. That was a let down. Other then that, the tasting menu was great, it felt like we almost had everyone on the menu. Definitely left full.

Interesting menu and great service. Only critique is that the entree menu was somewhat limited (especially if you don't eat seafood), but we ended up ordering essentially three rounds of appetizers because there were so many options from which to choose, and they were all wonderful.

Always a fantastic time. The food was Devine!!! 😋 Although I was concerned that they didn’t have enough staff to keep up with the demand. I was also puzzled after going there for well over a year we were no longer allowed to have individual checks. Next time I will speak to management.
