Belford's Savannah Ratings and Reviews
Disappointing dinner. Service was expected, but for a steakhouse, the steak was blah— I could make a better steak at home. Not seared enough. And my friends pork dish was raw in the middle—yes I said pork. Considering the price, I expected better.
If you can’t make great steak, you have no business calling yourself a steakhouse.
Unfortunately this visit didn’t live up to our last visit a month ago. Last month we would have given it 5 stars across the board. We took our family for what we described as the best filet mignon they’ll ever experience. So our group ordered 6, two medium and 4 medium rare. The two mediums were done correctly but the four medium rares were either well done or medium well so we sent them back. The second attempt resulted in 3 rare and one that was literally raw (or Pittsburgh if you prefer). Sadly we won’t be going back anytime soon. So disappointed after our anniversary date the month prior.
It was my birthday and my husband wanted to treat me to a nice night out while we were visiting Savannah. He discreetly asked the hostess when I went to the ladies room if they were able to do anything special for my birthday, like bringing dessert with a candle. He was assured that even though they typically don't do that, they would make sure it happened. It didn't. He was rather upset even though I told him it was not that big of a deal to me. If we are back next year, he will be taking me to Ruth's Chris instead. I still enjoyed my meal and I thought our server was excellent.
We were a party of 4. Two were celebrating birthdays. Everyone had some kind of steak. The dinners were quality steaks & excellent but my fillet mignon was served cool. But, everyone enjoyed their dinner.
However, I was disappointed that a dessert was not presented as a bday wish.
Our server was pleasant and did not rush us as we requested.
My wife and I went to Belford's for my 40th birthday dinner. We had a reservation. When we arrived (on a Monday evening), the restaurant had a decent crowd but open tables. We were taken to one and stood as the hostess cleared it while we waited. Several servers passed by and after about 10 minutes, one finally stopped to ask if we'd been helped. We had not. He said he would be back and returned a few min later to get a drink order. She had water and I ordered a beer. about 15 min later, he returned (I could see the bar from our table and it was not super crowded either.) He began to pour the beer, walked off with it and then returned to joke about the foam. I asked him to just set it down. He left and returned a few minutes later to bring a plate of bread (which was cold) and take our order. He thanked us for our patience but mine had already worn thin. 45 min after being seating, we had our grilled romaine salad appetizer and asked for another bread plate. It never arrived. Soon after, our entrees arrived. Reordered drinks and it arrived about 15 min later. We were almost finished eating. The food was delicious but for the prices (over $100 for two of us), I expected better service. No member of management ever came to greet us, ask us how everything was, nothing. Our waiter kept saying they were short staffed with a large crowd. While there were many occupied tables, there seemed to be plenty of servers. However, I believe that if this were the case, a manager should've known this and offered his own apology. (In such a restaurant, I think management greeting is customary anyway, or should be.) The ambiance and location were great and the food was very good. I hoped for better service. I would still recommend Belfords for the location, ambiance and food. Hopefully we just came on an off night.
This place has potential but we were very disappointed in our experience... I indicated that this was my girlfriends birthday but the staff did nothing to acknowledge this occasion. The waiter was very nice but too busy to get us drinks. We went to the bar to get our drinks.
Overall I would not recommend this place.... The food was okay but the service was inferior. Service is key when going out!
We have always enjoyed Belford — until now. Even though there was only one party eating when we arrived, they tried to seat us at the worst table. We told the waiter we were having a reunion with friends and wanted to take our time. He did let us wait to order, but we were only halfway through our first course when they brought out the second course. When I complained, the servers just shrugged. They never brought the soup my friend ordered, and my husband had to request his beverage three times. We will not go back.
Very accommodating, great glass of wine, the special soup was wonderfully tasty but I should have stuck to my original plan and ordered the crab cake. I wound up ordering the seafood pasta and didn't like it at all. First, the shrimp had the tails still attached, so I had to remove the tails before I could even begin to eat the dish. It wasn't so flavorful so I only ate a few bites of it. The server accommodated my friend by allowing her to order a dinner portion of scallops that were on the special appetizer menu. The increase in the dish made it quite pricy though. Two other dining partners were mixed, one liked their food a lot and the other meal was just so-so. For what it is, I think it is pretty pricy. I asked about their side dish of haricot verts, which are supposed to be a french style green bean....what they actually served was pole beans which appeared to be served southern style. Had I known I could have switched up the sides a bit, I probably would have been much happier.
Jvelle Q was an incredible waiter! He was training someone and still gave us one of the best dining experiences of our entire trip! He recommended to us the crab cake and shrimp and grits. We ordered exactly as he said, and weren't disappointed! The flavors mingled well, our cocktails were made exquisitely and we will absolutely recommend this restaurant to everyone we know traveling to Savannah!!
We were seated and then waited 30 minutes for our server to come over. The place was not really busy, about half full. He took our order then we waited a long time for our food. Our starters were ok, blt stack and crab cakes. We then waited 30-40 minutes for our entree. I had seafood linguine. It was not good at all. 3 mussels, 3 shrimp and 2-3 small flakes of crabmeat. The whole dish was only slightly warm. I asked our server where the rest of the crab meat was and he told that it was 2 ounces. He got his manager to come over. I told him meal was cold and the lack of crabmeat. He came back with more crabmeat but did not offer to deal with the cold meal. Very poor device. Our server was slow and not interested.
A very poor experience. A table of two behind had been seated 60+ minutes before their entree arrived.
I would never return
A very polished, gracious, and delicious dining experience. From the fried green tomatoes, through the generous crab cakes and Carolina shrimp served with smoked Gouda grits, to the not-to-be-missed sweet potato pecan pie, everything was prepared to perfection.
As newbies to Savannah, given the culinary diversity of the city, one might assume that next time we might try another similar dining venue, but given the level of excellence we found across the board in Belford's, we'll be heading there first!
Their brunch menu was great. I tried the Crabcake Eggs Benedict with gouda grits. It was delicious. The honey dew melon was not very good, but I brought it to their attention and they quickly replaced it with delicious grapes.
The fried green tomatoes were very good, but the sauce on top is spicy! (Next time I'll ask for it on the side.)
We visited Belford's for brunch and it did not disappoint. They have a special brunch menu which includes a free glass of champagne which is a nice bonus. The brunch dishes and the beer selection, including a nice list of local beers by the can, was surprising and enjoyable.
Our server was very friendly. We thought your food was different than online and too pricey. My friends order wasn't correct....she asked for a ribeye medium/rare and she questioned the difference between my ribeye and her....She said to our server this looks like a New York strip and server said yes it is a ribeye. He left and I cut into the steak and it was definitely we'll done and not a ribeye. Our server came back and apologized for the mistake....he had brought out the wrong order. My friend ordered dessert, she asked for bread pudding to go. It was presented well and when I got back to our hotel to eat the dessert..it was hard, dry, not cooked, the most awful tasting bread pudding she had ever had. Bread pudding is supposed to be moist....not this one!!
We booked for Sunday Brunch at 11:30. We were excited to taste Savannah brunch, and it was stated to be a "champagne brunch". When we arrived we were informed that no alcohol would be served until after 12:30 - so we could wait an hour or not have the champagne. No compensation or alternative was offered. There was no brunch, just a breakfast menu and we could order one item. SAD, this is NOT brunch, it's just expensive breakfast. Food was ok, but pricy and certainly not a brunch like New Orleans or anywhere else.
