I made a reservation here for brunch because I had heard great reviews, but we did not have a good experience! There was one person in our party that was 10 minutes late, and they refused to seat us. When we all got there, we were told we had a time limit on our table because we were 10 minutes late...mind you they did not even seem that busy! So many tables were open. The main hostess was not accommodating or helpful, very rude. When we were seated, they put right next to the stage where a jazz band was playing quite loudly, couldn’t hear ourselves think! Despite making the effort to have a reservation, we ended up having to sit at the bar. The bartender had great service but the hostess was terrible. Food was subpar and everything was drastically overpriced. Will not be going back and do not recommend making a reservation!!
Everything was great except for the beginning...after we saw the table we were shown, we requested a table for two away from the outside corner of the aisle next to the downstairs bar. We waited at least ten minutes standing awkwardly in the downstairs hallway for a different table. Several times we were told that all the empty tables were reserved. We had a reservation as well! We finally relented and took the table first offered. After resigning ourselves to this busy outer corner, we enjoyed great service and food. Still wondering, however, why we couldn’t have a quieter spot.
I am a Bostonian and had visitors from out of the country. Took them to the beehive to show what Boston is all about. Just before st. Patricks say weekend so we had a chance to be there for an live Irish music show. This place is probably the vest place to bring visitors. It's vibrant and cool with excellent food and wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommended for a celebration.
Wonderful restaurant and environment. Staff was great and attentive. Great live music and delicious food. I loved everything about Beehive. I picked this spot to celebrate two Birthdays and had a party of 6. The only cons I can think of are: It was a little hard to find, and they won’t seat you until your whole party arrives, but I understand. It’s a busy and popular place. Overall, a perfect 10. We had an amazing time and I’ll certainly be back again and again!
Excellent service, food was great as always, enjoyed the music.
Great for a fun night out! Would be great for a date night too
From the moment we stepped into the restaurant the hostess (Joy) was exactly that, an absolute JOY! She was gracious, extremely helpful and the perfect presence for our start.
Our waitress was phenomenal, and the live-jazz music in the background was the perfect setting for my friend and I to catch up over brunch with phenomenal espresso martinis and food! This spot is iconic in the South End but it takes great work to stay consistent and relevant years later, which the Beehive team has done exceptionally!
Delicious food, excellent service and great music!
As always, I enjoyed my experience here. Lovely service and she made a special request work for me. It did get a little too loud for conversation as the night went on and we were as far from the live music as you could get. I wish prices weren't quite so high.
Great live blues and good food and cocktails. I will defenetly come again next time I am in Boston.
In general, I really like the Beehive. I have been a regular for a long time. The main reason to come is the music but ambience, food and beverages contribute to the experience as does service.
This time, service was unfriendly and less than helpful at the beginning.
Therefore, the overall three star rating this time is due to a lack of service and friendlyness.
Blues music was fantastic. Food was only fair. Waitress was responsive and knowledgeable of menu.
Music fabulous. Food much better than I expected and I’m not an east grader. Great atmosphere great place for a Saturday night.
Recommended by someone who frequents there- the food was excellent and unique without being weird. Our Waitress, Sarah from Maine, was friendly, efficient and attentive.
The music was great.
The food was great. The tables were very close together, especially upstairs...made for difficult date night chat.
Went with my husband and brother-in-law and his gf for brunch on Saturday.
Got seated right at the time of our reservation and found the whole place to be quite charming. Definitely has a trendy, hip vibe.
I had the smoked salmon with poached eggs and it was delicious. My drink, the Queen Bee, wasn’t for me (too much elderflower flavor) but was still enjoyable. My husband had the quiche and he said it was great.
Overall a fun place for brunch and definitely worth although ended up being kinda pricey (prob due to a few too many drinks!).
It's a real shame that the staff is so discourteous because the food is incredible and the music is lovely. The first time I went to Beehive, I thought maybe the host was just having a bad day but after this last visit I will never go back. I'm upset about it because the lamb I had was one of the best ever :( I just can't justify handing another cent to support such a mismanaged restaurant. Sometimes I read reviews like this and think, "eh this person is being dramatic." If you're thinking that now, go check it out for yourself. Just be ready to be grossly offended.
Good was very good - wonderful waitress - and some awesome Jazz - highly recommend - fun place to bring college students
Great food, we were there at 6:30 so had nice meal & time to talk before Jazz Night. Just right!
Great ambiance and food! 2 person tables were on top of each other so noise grew quickly
Overall, the place is fun, but I don't think I'll be returning for a meal again. I made a reservation and that didn't affect being seated quickly. I still had to wait for the parties in front of me to be seated. The waitress was clearly covering too many tables. She was good at her job, but we felt it was hard to get a hold of her because she was always at a different table. They charge for bread and butter, where most civilised restaurants give that complimentary- like it's actually on the menu as an appetizer. We ordered the scallops and the salmon. Both were overcooked and I found that the meal didn't satisfy me (less than 5', 100lb, tiny appetite), let alone my boyfriend. For the quality, the meal was way over priced.
BUT the drinks were great and the music was awesome. I would return for a cocktail and to listen to music, but not to eat.
I had only been to The Beehive for drinks with friends in the past; the great ambiance and live jazz music is the perfect way to spend a weekend night. Most recently though I went for a dinner date and could not have been happier with the service we received. Our food (The burger and the vegetarian curry) came out extremely fast and was hot and fresh. Our waitress was so pleasant and helpful, while not overbearing, and the hostess was able to accommodate our request to sit close to the stage!
I will absolutely be back to sample even more of the delicious food and custom cocktails!
I really Love this place. Nice jazz music, sexy feel, food os amazing. Took my Wife here last Saturday and she has declared this is here Favorite place on Boston. Oysters, braised Lamb, and Drinks are amazing!! Im ready to go back with friends..
The wine selection by the glass did not pair good with the food. The selections were mediocre.
Otherwise great overall.
We enjoyed all our food and the cocktails were great! Very cool atmosphere.
This was odd. Second time I go here where a rather strict man st the hostess stand is rude. When we booked the reservation 2 weeks out we stated seating downstairs to have some music with dinner. When we arrived I mentioned the request and the man laughs and says not possible you’re upstairs by bar. Mind you you get to watch the music on a projection here and our luck this night we even had a pole blocking that. But this wasnt our first encounter with the unwelcoming host. A month prior at the 1.5 hour mark of dinner he approached our table and said we would need to finish in the next 15 minutes as the table had been promised to someone and we were over staying our welcome. Now I generally don’t blast or review poorly but this combo and the general attitude of the host left me with such a bad taste I felt compelled to warn. Food is good and drinks are well made but after coming to the beehive about 12 times a year for 3 years I can’t recommend it.
Fun experience with live music.. great server!
Good food and wait service! This was not our first time so we knew what to expect as far as noise level. However, the after work bar scene on a Thursday night is very loud. Our table was close to the bar and we were glad it was large enough for us (2) to sit side by side. Otherwise, we would not have been able to have any conversation at all. Overall good vibe and good food.
I’ve dined here several dozen times and it used to be astounding. Over the years the quality has decreased. This most recent time was for Valentine’s Day and I don’t know if it was bc it was a fixed menu churning out dishes for quick turnover or if they’ve just gotten lazy, but the menu was in inspiring and the meals were over cooked. I love the beehive but I’ve been very disappointed in their kitchen the past few times. I gave up when I ordered a “chocolate mousse” and I received a hard chocolate cake the size of my shoe that I could stick my fork in and it stayed standing. I would absolutely go for a drink and great jazz in awesome ambiance but until something new happens in that kitchen I would recommend going anywhere else for the money you are gonna Spend.
Great Valentines Day!
We had come once before a long time ago but it was later at night and very chaotic and noisy, so we wanted to try it for actual normal dinner! They do have live music quite frequently so if that's not your thing, inquire ahead. The server was very laid back and friendly and easy to relate to, and the food was very good! The farro salad appetizer was our favorite! We would like to come back again to try more of the menu!
Service was friendly and attentive. Great Sunday brunch with live music.
Fantastic experience - great venue. Very cool music scene. Great food and drinks. Make a reservation - ask for downstairs if possible.
Great waitress and no waiting time when you reserve ahead of time
Got really sick from the food. Should have looked at the menu beforehand.
Eclectic crowd. Food was good but salmon portion was small for the price. Staff was nice.
Off the hook. Awesome on every level. Great service, food and music. Shared a bunch of appetizers between five of us. Every enjoyed the entrees .... Highly recommended if you are in Boston.
Absolutely Fabulous!! I travel often and I must say that this is one of the top restaurants I’ve visited.
Great atmosphere. Friendly inviting staff. Excellent, diverse menu options. Good music in a casual setting. Would highly recommend.
Good place to hang out, have a good drink, listen to music and eat. Very limited menu, appetizers better/more interesting than entrees. good atmosphere
