Visiting my daughter, for her birthday, who is a college student and the place has a nice ambiance with jazz music, and the food was tasty and fresh.
We wanted to try this restaurant to see how good it was and it did not disappoint, although a few things were a little disappointing. I had reserved through Open Table without being able to ask for an outdoor seating. Upon arrival, I asked if it was possible to be outside but the receptionist told me they were all reserved. Upon departure, there were many empty tables, so not too happy about that.
The design and ambiance were very nice, so was the food. The steak tartare was very good but with a twist. The Summer spaetzle were delicious but too salty to my taste. All the dishes were very nicely presented but I feel they were all overpriced. We enjoyed our evening there, but you have to know that you will end up with a hefty check!
Live music with three-person band, "Jim Kelly" - in the lower level of the restaurant/bar. Very nice. Reasonably casual environment for Sunday brunch. Brunch menu is limited but unique twists on eggs, eggs Benedict, French toast, and pancakes. They also have Shakshuka as an option. Love the eclectic interior and set up - different rooms and mezzanine open to view band. Upstairs focus is bar atmosphere. I have been for dinner as well. I recommend this place for adults, not so much kids under 18.
Cool busy place. Menu is small, food was just ok, only had 2 dessert options. Several of us ordered glasses of wine, pour was certainly less than the standard 5 oz. and for $17/glass you would expect more.
Outdoor dining had limited beer and no coffee availability.
It was a beautiful evening so we sat outside. The patio is so pretty with large umbrellas to shade from the sun and light rain if needed. Our server was prompt and very knowledgeable about the menu. We started with cocktails and the whipped ricotta. The lamb with couscous is a must have!
Enjoyed outdoor dining with good food.
Food is ok, the brunch coffee cake was dry and hard, not impressed.
The afrikan egg brunch dish and salad was good.
Lamb shakshouka was excellent, and the live music downstairs was enjoyable as well.
A little expensive
We went before the theater, and ate downstairs. We were the only folks there virtually when we came at 6, but it filled up quite a lot and became a bit noisy by the time we left at 7:15. Very good food and friendly service.
We went to Burlesque night - Had dinner then stuck around for the show at the bar. Phenomenal!!! It was our first burlesque show and was such a positive experience, wonderful all around!! Will definitely be coming back! Fried cauliflower was fantastic, and loved the lamb meatballs and roast.
This was one of my favorite spots in Boston when I first moved here but the food has really let me down the last few times. It seemed like everything was made ahead of time and just scoped in the plate last minute with nothing being cooked to order. My grain bowl was random scoops on a plate with no layering at all and my partners food was watery and oily.
Fantastic spot for brunch! Great ambiance and vibe with live jazz. Delicious food. Yummy cocktails.
Solid brunch choice!
We went for Sunday brunch. Service was not friendly at all. Our server was all business and did not smile once. She didn’t bring plates for our shared app until I asked. Maybe she was having an off
Day - Food was good - not great. None of us felt our dishes were anything to rave about.
They did have live music which was really nice.
We've been to Beehive a few times before without any issues, but this time our brunch food was really lacking in flavor. The food came out fast, but all of our dishes were very bland. The service was excellent, and the staff very friendly as usual.
We saw another table near us send their food back, so we are thinking there was just an issue in the kitchen that day. Either way, we will be returning - hopefully we will have a better experience next time.
Nice place parking is difficult so if you go on a Saturday get there early to find a spot.
We came here for brunch and I was so disappointed. We had reservations for outside which was fine. A selection of draft beers was on the menu, 5/6 beers were not available. What is the purpose of having this on the menu? Brunch came and portions were small, but had nice flavor. The American breakfast markets the potato as hash brown but what was served was small potatoes, not cut, shredded, or anything. When the waiter was questioned, he stated “ this is our rendition.” You should just call them roasted potatoes then. He did not offer to switch this out or bring out another side which is what was most bothersome about the encounter. Overall much better brunch places in the area, go there instead!
Ambiance was romantic and welcoming, lots a character! An enjoyable time and food and service was great!
Like jazz music is a plus
Upon readng reviews, I thought that we would be in for a pleasant brunch. It was absolutely disgusting. The shakshuka was barely edible, with an inch of oil on the top, completely over seasoned with the unmistakable taste of garlic powder (not even fresh ingredients). The waiter could not be less interested and I had to go up to the station 2 times to ask for silverware and the check (despite attempting for several minutes to get his attention by the more traditional route of making eye contact and raising hand). The food made me sick, absolutely will not recommend or ever go back.
Food was terrible, drinks weren’t very good either. The ambience is ok so probably good to go drink as a group but would never go to eat again
Loud, no rolls, no frills ehh
The food was great but the service was very strange. The host & hostess were very pleasant. We then sat and noticed the table was wobbly and asked the server to get a table shim and instead she told us to move to another table. We were fine with it… but we were surprised! Then we ordered drinks and food…. 20 30 mins later the apps came out before our cocktails arrived. With no side plates we asked for the status of our drinks and plates. She then got them and at the end of the meal we felt very rushed even though there was 2 other tables still sitting and we asked for another drink and the server said she couldn’t and we would need to go inside to the bar itself. About 10 min later the table of 4 next to us got another round of drinks from another server and we asked our server and she said…”that wasn’t supposed to happen” in a kind of condescending way and walked off. Overall I prob would go back one more time but would insist on another server.
Fun place, but host/hostess station seemed a bit disorganized when we got there, in spite of our having a reservation.
Beehive has excellent ambience, appropriate to a restaurant that is nearly adjacent to the Calderwood Theater. The service is also excellent. I have dined there many times and have always enjoyed the experience. The food this time, however, was wildly divergent in quality. My dining partner had the truffle short ribs and I have never seen her have such an enthusiastic reaction to a dish. I also tasted it and it was just wonderful. I had the swordfish, which was the thinnest slice of fish I have ever seen; they must have had a special sushi knife to cut it that thin. It was piled high with a sauce of corn, gravy and pickled onion, which created an unpleasant medicinal taste. I left the restaurant very happy that my friend had such a good time and also very angry that I was served such a yukky, cheap slice of fish.
Me and my friend waited for our waiter to take our order for over an hour and a half and he never came. He gave us our drink orders and we never saw him or another server after that. I asked for my check from 3 different servers because I was so sick of waiting around. We left and had lunch at another neighboring restaurant. Worst service ever
Fantastic food. Only concern was that we went to have dinner and to hear the music. Our waitress rushed us out of a great table to hear the music telling us that there would be tables open just before the band started which was clearly not the case. Don’t give up your table, we shouldn’t have.
Fantastic waiter and great food. Loved the ambience as well.
Was a great time except the music didn’t start playing until 9:45 pm
Outdoor seating review
The food was amazing, though what I wanted was out and no one said that when we sat down. I asked for the scampi without lobster, and they were unwilling to make it. The salmon I got instead was fine, but nothing special. My boyfriends roast chicken was incredible. We were unaware of the early patio closing when I made the reservation, so it was disappointing to find out by being rushed out the door after only 45 minutes. We asked about desert and were told “we have it, but we are sort of closing down shop”- no offer to order to go, and no apology. Keep in mind it was 845- only 30 minutes after we sat down. I looked disappointed and the waitress asked me “if it was my birthday or something”- which she may have meant nicely, but it came across a bit rude. There was never any explanation for us being rushed out, we only gathered it by the rushing, and the table being cleared WHILE WE WERE SITTING STILL. We spent $140 on what would have been a nice date, but the overall experience was quite disappointing. We are easy to please and very understanding of these tricky times and short staffing, but felt like we were unwelcome.
The brunch menu was disappointing to say the least
Great food and cocktails!
Fantastic service. Loved the food and the cocktails
Setting and service was good. Drinks and food not so much. Avocado toast was beautifully presented but thick, stale bread was difficult to cut and chew. Diet Coke was flat. Mimosa at $14 was 3 ounces of tastelessness, bacon was incinerated and inedible, and French toast was like thick bread pudding. It was a sunny, busy Sunday, with many other brunchers looking as if their menu selections were pleasing to them. For us it was a one and done. Sorry, but you asked.
Love the atmosphere, but pricey.
It was soo much fun and the staff was super helpful and friendly. We had a great time.
Really enjoyed the cocktails and blues music!
great food and drinks!
