Beef and Brandy Restaurant and Lounge Ratings and Reviews
We had made reservations (via phone unfortunately not OpenTables) at a well known restaurant but they had lost it and were unhelpful, rude actually. So while we waited for a table I whipped out my OpenTable app and made a reservation at nearby Beef and Brandy. They could not have been more accommodating. There were 5 of us. We were seated immediately. The noise level was subdued and we could truly talk in normal voices. We were never rushed. We never felt like we had to gobble our food so they could turn over the table. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and helpful. The food was good, not special but quite good and reasonably priced. I was very impressed with the offerings of the bar concerning mixed drinks and beer. I will return.
Made reservations that evening because we were on our way to see the musical, Wicked. So we decided to have dinner before curtain time. It turned out to be a nice dinner with the seven of us. The waiter was very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious as well. Thank you for everything! We would love to come back again when we're at State Street.
Loved that we got a last minute reservation - made reservations from Rockford, Il about 5 hrs earlier. Excellent location with wide variety on menu. We had the Seafood Chowder, toss salad with blue cheese dressing, Ruben sandwich and the Liver and Onions. Entrees were excellent, salad dressing - large blue cheese crumbles Waitress was sweet, interested in us and seemed honest in her suggestions. Price was excellent. Checked out the kids menu for when we have our grandchildren with us….chicken fingers, pizza, hot chocolate will be appreciated by them. Wasn't crowded. Only downside: hubby had a hard time not watching the game….he was facing the TV…next time we'll sit with me in that seat….but it was a cozy corner L-shaped booth.
I had made a reservation for 15 people about a day earlier. I was in the area and stopped by the restaurant about 2 hours before we were scheduled to arrive. When I got there the hostess didn't know anything about a reservation saying, "we don't usually take reservations." I explained that I had made the reservation via Open Table. She still looked perplexed but said there shouldn't be a problem accommodating us. She called over the owner who was very nice and gave us a choice to have our group upstairs or down. He also said there wouldn't be a problem if we had a larger group and even let us have a private room. Our group expanded to 24 and while service was slow, they were welcoming and even gave us individual checks.
I went with a large party which the restaurant easily and happily accommodated. The Greek chicken dinners were tasty and hearty. The food was all good. Everyone was happy to have an inexpensive, tasty meal in downtown Chicago. Recommended for bargain seekers.
My colleagues and I went to lunch here to celebrate a birthday--what great variety (hello, breakfast anytime) and very delicious fare! The service from all of the staff (servers, runners/bussers, front desk) was absolutely outstanding. This is a great place for groups or a small meeting (noise level is very tolerable). Would definitely recommend.
We took the nieces and nephews here after seeing "The Book of Morman Play". We were so pleased with the choices on the menu - There was food for all of our six different tastes. In addition, two of party had a transporation (time) issue and our waitress was kind enough to bring "to go boxes" with their meal...just in case. This is a great downtown location for fun and food.
This was an okay place. They did have a beer that I like a lot that I've not found many places...but it is essentially a diner with a full bar. I think that the description on Open Table had me thinking it was something else. My dining companion liked the dish that she got. I got a burger with feta and spinach. There was about 1 tsp of feta crumbled and a smattering of sauteed spinach. Not wowed by this. Kind of disappointed.
On a more positive note: service was really good.
I wanted to take my team of 8 out to dinner after a long day at a tradeshow in Chicago. I picked this restaurant because it had a huge menu so everyone would be able to find something. The pictures looked nice and it got decent reviews so I booked the reservation. I was very surprised when I walked in to find a "diner" like setting and the place not busy at all, honestly I am surprised they would take reservations. I bet its a great place for breakfast, or a quick lunch but it is not for a nice sit down dinner for your business guests. We were going to leave but we greeted by the nicest waiter ever, Israel. He was very personable and friendly, and had some great stories. We felt bad leaving on him and all ordered drinks and appetizers.
Service was very nice but I was surprised to find the ambience rather cafeteria-ish and the food only fair. The drinks were not made properly either. We were going to the theater and hoped for nice appetizers and drinks beforehand. I am surprised that this restaurant was on open table.
I have been eating at Beef & Brandy for many years now and I can always count on them for a great meal and a great value. Best breakfast, even better dinners. They serve speedy lunches during the week too. They serve your typical diner fare which is superb. My fav breakfast item is their spinach & feta omelette and if you love Liver & Onions--theirs is the best. They have a bar downstairs and the last time I was down there it was a bit dark & dank for me however; you can order alcoholic beverages at your table with your meal. The staff is always pleasant and welcoming and the wait staff will treat you right. Beef & Brandy is the best bang for your buck in the Loop.
I was welcomed immediately upon arrival and I mentioned that I was being joined by a second person. They said that only one party had been seated who was waiting, but it was not my party. I was seated and served my drink as I waited. It was a very welcoming experience. Our food was of good quality, generous in portion size, and a reasonable price. Our service was very good.
One of my employees and I happened to be staying around the corner and thought we'd try this place out. The vibe is an old diner environment and it was pretty quiet inside with not many diners. The staff was friendly and attentive throughout our meal. We both had "Cajun Burgers" that really didn't taste like much of anything but an unseasoned burger off the flattop. I would imagine that the downstairs bar is busier and more of a draw than the food.
The waitstaff and bartenders were all very nice. The ambiance is a mix between an outdated family style restaurant and a sports bar with many flat screen televisions. The food isn't very good but not terrible either. A decent place to accommodate a large group on short notice.
