Becco Ratings and Reviews
We’re from Friendswood, TX and Becco’s was recommended to us by a friend who’s from NY....Great recommendation!! We got there about 7:15 for a 7:30 reservation, and had to wait about 10 minutes in the bar area! No prob! Great ambience and vibe! Went to our table about 7:25 and it was great! The three different pastas and the bottle of white wine was fantastic!! Thank you Becco’s for a memorable evening!! I would give two thumbs up 👍🏼 👍🏼 and highly recommended this restaurant!! Signed, two happy tourist from Texas! The Fitzpatrick’s
We’ve been to Becco before and it has always been such a treat. Last night, however, tarnished my perception of this restaurant. We had reservations for 6:15. We weren’t seated until around 6:30. By the time our waiter paid us any attention, it was 7. We had an 8:00 show to be at and we were getting nervous about the time. We FINALLY ordered our food. I ordered the veal and my daughter got the all you can eat pasta. The food came around 7:20. There were waiters routinely walking through the restaurant to fill up people’s plates for the endless pasta option and they just walked on by my daughter. We asked them for some pasta since we were in sort of a hurry and they would not give my daughter the pasta she ordered until I got my meal. I understand what they were trying to do, but it was frustrating that they would not just give my daughter her meal when she asked- especially considering Becco had previous knowledge that we had a show to be at. We rushed through our meals and the food was mediocre at best. My daughter liked the pumpkin ravioli but the other two pastas were not very good. Unfortunately, I will not be returning to Becco due to this experience.
We were very happy to be seated upstairs at this very busy restaurant. Downstairs in the bar area it is extremely crowded and very very noisy. We would not have enjoyed our evening dinner there at all.
Upstairs was quiet and lovely. The decor was nothing special but the food was delicious and the service was very good!
We will certainly go back!
Everything was good, from the bread and olives when we arrived to the salad and entree. The wine was good also and reasonably priced. The dessert was pretty good, but not my favorite part of the meal. We had the tasting dessert and it could have been better. The waiter was very Nice and helpful.
Very dissatisfied with this experience. Although we twice stated to please slow the pace, we were rushed through the meal. This was our second visit and it did not compare well with our first time. We had the three pasta special with hot appetizer to start. Most of the appetizers were good, however the tuna was very dry and tough. The ravioli was good, howerver the other two pastas were very average, certainly not what we expected. I am hoping this experience was an anomaly.
We have returned to BECCO for the third time, but eating next to the bar was like eating in a train station. This was a BIG birthday celebration, but not our best experience. Traffic never stopped; diners lugging back packs and coats jostled our party several times, and diners awaiting tables were standing two deep at the bar, blocking traffic and wait staff. Our server was great, our salmon and steak were delicious. The bread was a disappointment. Server’s wine recommendation was spot on. Dessert was fabulous cheesecake and had a candle for my husband’s birthday, which was appreciated. Server did not charge for dessert and I think it was because he knew our dining experience was less than stellar -no fault of his. I recommend BECCO for later lunch or dinner after 7:30.
I used to enjoy Becco and recommend it to friends. My most recent experience was disappointing. The restaurant now seems like a tourist trap relying on its past reputation as a solid choice for a good value in the theatre district. We had the pasta combo for $25 and bottle of wine for $29. One pasta was dreadful, baked with cheese ; a rather dry , uninspiring casserole type dish without sauce, herbs or flavor. The spaghetti with basil was boring and bland. The bolognese sauce was the best of the three but was overpowered by too much nutmeg. Service was good, the wine was just ok. There is no reason to return to this restaurant, the bland , mediocre food can be found at Olive Garden.
I haven’t been in many years (since Lidia used to be there more often) and visited in the spring. I didn’t write a review then because I thought I would give it another chance. However, I felt the same way as I did this afternoon . Wow has this place gone down hill. The hostess, wait staff, and bus boys have far too much attitude. We were really disappointed and I don’t plan to return. It’s so sad when these places get fame and fortune and it goes downhill.
Becco has been a fan favorite for over 15 years for our visits to New York. It was a huge disappointment the other night. THhe pastas were unimaginable at best. I ordered veal piccata and shouldnhave went it back- I am not even sure it was veal- dry and tough for $36. We will not be returning sadly- they are resting on their tourist traffic and have really let a special little spot decline.
Took a day off from school and work to bring our daughter down to see the tree in Rockefeller Center, and decided on a whim to stop at Becco for lunch. They never disappoint. My only very small negative is that I wish the waitress had told us about the truffle app special when she took our order. We heard her offer it to another table after we had already had the burrata and antipasto, but we knew from past experience how delicious the truffle app is, so we ordered that, as well. Needless to say, we walked out stuffed, but happy.
The wine was excellent and a great value and the salad was good. However, we never got to taste the entree. We arrived at 5:20 for a 5:30 resveration. We let the hostess know that we had a 7 pm show and we told our waiter as well. At 6:25 we had not been served the entree and left. They did not charge us for the wine or the salad so maybe we'll try them again when we have more time.
Becco is our go to restaurant for pre-theater but also a great destination in itself. In the middle of the tourist scene, Becco is first class and first rate on food. Never do you have that corner cutting feeling that you get in tourist traps. You will be convinced that Lydia (owner) or Bill (chef) is personally cooking every meal. The $29 wine list has climbed a bit over the years but is still an outstanding value in a NYC popular restaurant. Becco is one place I never get tired of visiting. Though often Pre-theater it is always a highlight of the evening itself!
Food was very good. Tables, at least for 2 in our section, were extremely close together. (Heard all about a lady’s upcoming surgery; could have done without that.) Service was excellent and prices, especially for high-quality food in this neighborhood, were very fair. Got our table right at our reservation time and was out (without being rushed) in plenty of time for our curtain.
Enjoyable experience, but not perfect. I ordered the lamb chops medium rare: unfortunately, the outside was charred and the inside was quite rare. Other than the “grill” flavor, the chops lacked a discernible seasoning/flavor profile. They weren’t bad, but given the price and reputation of the restaurant, I expected a bit better on the preparation. The scaffata on top of which the chops were served was delicious!
Mixed experience. Wine excellent value - get the Nebbiolo on the $29 wine menu. Loved the crackers and the white bean purée. Very disappointed with pasta trio. Typical of all you can eat, the Bolognese sauce had but a few crumbs of meat, fettuccine was extremely thick. Penne with tomato basil sauce devoid of flavor and ravioli inedible. Waiter recognized we were unhappy halfway through and brought us a dessert sampler on the house. He gets an A for service. Would try again as other entrees looked delish.
Hanger steak was one of the best steaks I have ever had. The steak was cooked perfect! We had an appetizer and wine and everything else was very good.
The service was great. Very attentive. Our glasses were never half full.
I would recommend this place to everyone.
Definitely make a reservation so that you are sure to get a table.
We love the food and the ambiance at Becco. Each room is unique and the servers are all very friendly. Everything we've had is delicious, but I love the table side service of the three daily pasta specials. And the $29 wine selections are very good. We've had a great experience every time we've dined here.
