Becco Ratings and Reviews
Becco is one of our staple NYC restaurants. Always great for pre-theatre dining (as long as you can stay awake after unlimited pasta dishes). Each day there are three types of pasta which waiters bring to the table in frying pans serving everyone. With a changing selection of pastas, chances are you will love at least two of them, if not all three. The potato gnocchi was large discs of potato flour pasta - greater than 1" in diameter and 1/4" thick. There was also orichiette with kale and bacon, and a traditional spaghetti with marinara. For under $25 you get the unlimited pasta plus either a ceasar salad or an antipasta plate. My antipasta plate was a plate plus two smaller dishes. It included - lots of vegetable antipasta, lightly fried skate, and octopus. Did I mention the bread? And the dish of olives! Roll me down the street to the theatre...
The food was imaginative, comforting, delicious and ample! The wait staff was accommodating and very efficient as well as very well versed in the menu. Their recommendations helped make the meal special.
Although the tables seemed close, that actually added to the ambiance as people discussed the shows they had just seen or were about to see.
All in all a great food and dining experience.
dined at Becco before going to the theatre. We sat upstairs at a very small table, which was ok, but it was difficult to get the food on the table as we had multiple plates. The waiter was new, so apparently did not get the concept of drinks prior to ordering, or was instructed to move us along considering we had an early sitting. Things were a bit rushed. The special of the day was an unlimited three pasta entrees and salad which was good but a little heavy. The waiters did come for additional servings. We had eaten at Becco before, so pretty much knew what to expect.
Overall, a very pleasant experience
Wonderful experience while visiting with a relative in NY for only one day. The entire restaurant accommodated our 3 generation large party, including our young kids. Food was reasonably priced and absolutely excellent. We will definitely make a point of coming back!
Food was good as usual, but the service on Sunday night was terrible. Jody was our initial server, but we moved tables because the heater was blowing at about 95 degrees directly on our table. We finally had Charles take over our new table after 10-15 minutes, but he never introduced himself, asked if we had questions, or shared any off the menu specials. Again, the food was good, but Jody and Charles left A LOT to be desired on the service side.
Great food and wine from Becco along with some interesting cocktails.
Came here for a Significant Other's Birthday - the unlimited pasta is a wonderful choice and the offerings for the night were absolutely delicious. The only detractor from our otherwise very enjoyable experience was the conversation from the table next to us, the loud overall environment, and the speed at which our food was brought to us. I do understand that it was a packed night for Becco, as everyone was dining out for the night before MLK, Jr. Day, but our food took a decently long time to come to our table when the unlimited pasta is walked around the restaurant. We never saw our first server again, and our second server never asked us whether we wanted more wine/drinks/etc. while also seeming to rush our interaction.
Overall the quality of the meal shined through the slow and somewhat abrupt service.
Disappointed. Food was average tables were so closed together we could hardly move to eat our dinner without bumping elbows with the lovely people sitting next to us. We had to get up during dinner to let the guests at the next table leave or enter. When the pasta servers came to serve the table next to ours they had to partially reach over our table to serve. So Uncomfortale .
Second time here. Food is consistent and generally good. My husband had the barley and beef soup first and thought is was lacking in flavor. I had the arancini and they were very tasty but very tiny. Three for $12. Overpriced. For second course my husband had the pork chop which again didn't have enough sauce as the description promised. It was tender however. I had the seafood stew over polenta. Shrimps, scallops and and swordfish I think. I thought it was well seasoned and I enjoyed it very much. The restaurant is very busy and noisy and our waiter was a little short of patience not only to us but to a table next to us. He did apologize. We will go back eventually. I like the vibe of lots of people enjoying a nice meal.
My husband and I came for an early dinner before a show. We made early reservations and were seated very promptly. The restaurant wasn’t too crowded when we got there but it filled up quickly so reservations are a must. Service was very good although we had to ask for water a couple of times. All in all, food was delicious. We shared the meatballs in Sunday sauce as an appetizer and they were so so good. I had the Zuppa and my husband had the pollo limone. We were both very pleased with our entrees. Then we shared the sorbet for dessert and it was the perfect end to a great meal.
Sub-par service for a trusty standby. We had a 3:45 reservation on a Sunday, arrived at 3:30 and was seated immediately. Server asked, and we let her know that we had a 6:30 show. 3 hours is a LOT of time. But somehow, packing was way off, and either they forgot about our pasta intermezzo course, or they figured that they should combine them with our entrees (which they attempted to). At that point, I refused the pastas, since the whole idea was for an in-between course. Waitress must have been new, and maybe never worked 'fine' dining before, as she forgot drink items, never checked if the special was still sold out between lunch and dinner, and a litany of other small errors. She even became combative when I explained why I was refusing the pastas, which is the only thing that actually got me angry.
Good news is that the management is still stellar there, and we were given comp pasta anyway, and they also brought us some free deserts. That made up for it well, though we really didn't want desert anyway.
Food was solid. Apps of meatballs and arancini were tasty, if not special. Meatballs were nice and big, though the arancini were pretty small portion size. Don't expect to share those. Cocktails and wine were good, great items on the $29 list, though I also got a bottle of Amarone off the reserve list which was excellent. Veal chop was cooked well, and wife enjoyed her chicken very much. Kids had chicken farm which was huge, and pasta with butter which the little one enjoyed a lot.
So I would go back, but hopefully get some better service next time.
Great place for family since there is an all you can eat pasta price fix. My nieces ate like they never saw spaghetti before----and we're Italian. It is a little cool when the front door opens so I would not recommend sitting near the door on a freezing day. In comparison to other restaurants in the very busy theater district, this one is probably better than most, but they are basically trying to serve the masses and not necessarily your table.
It was my first time at the restaurant this past Sunday. I was attending a matinee with my sister. When the reservation was made you are asked if you are attending the theatre and they will make sure you are out on time.
The food and service was fabulous. I will definitely become a regular.
One of the highlights of my coming here over the years has been seeing Monica. She is such an asset to the restaurant. She is always smiling and makes the guests feel special and comfortable. Monica is such a hard worker. She walks around jumping in wherever she is needed. She keeps the dining room running smoothly.
We’re from Friendswood, TX and Becco’s was recommended to us by a friend who’s from NY....Great recommendation!! We got there about 7:15 for a 7:30 reservation, and had to wait about 10 minutes in the bar area! No prob! Great ambience and vibe! Went to our table about 7:25 and it was great! The three different pastas and the bottle of white wine was fantastic!! Thank you Becco’s for a memorable evening!! I would give two thumbs up 👍🏼 👍🏼 and highly recommended this restaurant!! Signed, two happy tourist from Texas! The Fitzpatrick’s
We’ve been to Becco before and it has always been such a treat. Last night, however, tarnished my perception of this restaurant. We had reservations for 6:15. We weren’t seated until around 6:30. By the time our waiter paid us any attention, it was 7. We had an 8:00 show to be at and we were getting nervous about the time. We FINALLY ordered our food. I ordered the veal and my daughter got the all you can eat pasta. The food came around 7:20. There were waiters routinely walking through the restaurant to fill up people’s plates for the endless pasta option and they just walked on by my daughter. We asked them for some pasta since we were in sort of a hurry and they would not give my daughter the pasta she ordered until I got my meal. I understand what they were trying to do, but it was frustrating that they would not just give my daughter her meal when she asked- especially considering Becco had previous knowledge that we had a show to be at. We rushed through our meals and the food was mediocre at best. My daughter liked the pumpkin ravioli but the other two pastas were not very good. Unfortunately, I will not be returning to Becco due to this experience.
Herd of cattle best describes our experience, first they pile you on top of each other before seating, then it’s a marathon for eating, we felt so rushed with no time to enjoy the food each course. Never asked about the special occasion I entered on the reservation.
We were very happy to be seated upstairs at this very busy restaurant. Downstairs in the bar area it is extremely crowded and very very noisy. We would not have enjoyed our evening dinner there at all.
Upstairs was quiet and lovely. The decor was nothing special but the food was delicious and the service was very good!
We will certainly go back!
Everything was good, from the bread and olives when we arrived to the salad and entree. The wine was good also and reasonably priced. The dessert was pretty good, but not my favorite part of the meal. We had the tasting dessert and it could have been better. The waiter was very Nice and helpful.
