Becco Ratings and Reviews
I’ve been to Becco before, which is why i wanted to bring my boyfriend here for his birthday. I love the food, and the service usually is outstanding. Last night we came and i specified there was a birthday at the table in the reservation notes, however it was never acknowledged. I understand that my reservation was for 9:45, which is 15 minutes before they close, but the whole experience felt very rushed and I’m unhappy about it as, there were other tables in the restaurant when we walked out the door. We had 3 different waiters introduce themselves throughout the dinner, because the original waiter went on break, and then left for the night. That isn’t a big issue, but it all added to the rushed feeling. Going back to the birthday- i figured maybe they didn’t relay the message to the different servers that there was a birthday so i just let it go... until i received the bill that was very clearly labeled “BIRTHDAY”.....
We sat upstairs. The service was frantic and loud. Dishes crashing and tables being reset with seemingly little care about the diners trying to enjoy their meal. Food was good but not at the level we had expected for such a well know NYC restaurant. There are better Italian restaurants in the neighborhood.
The hostess here was so nasty. Not pleasant AT ALL. Tried to seat our party of 6 adults at a table the size of an end table. When we asked to be moved she gave us such an attitude. Then we heard her speaking to the other workers about our party not wanting to sit there. NOT PROFESSIONAL! We have dined in NYC many many times but this table was ridiculously small. I will NEVER go back.
This was our 12th visit to Becco in 5 years, and up until now, we've always loved the restaurant. We've introduced several friends to the place also.
Unfortunately, our recent family lunch, celebrating my husband's 75th birthday, for 5 plus our baby grand daughter, was a big disappointment. The good news, the food was terrific. The bad news is the service was atrocious. From the disinterested hostesses at the door, to schlepping us upstairs with 2 children when there were plenty of tables on the first floor, to the waiter who we could barely understand , and the 1 hour wait for our food, serving me first before the rest of party, and 10 minutes later, everyone else. We have never felt so Untaken care of in a restaurant.
When I made the reservation, I made a note that it was a 75th birthday. Totally disregarded.
My husband ordered the whole Branzino, and when it finally arrived, they asked him if he wanted it filleted, and then didn't return with it for 15 minutes.
On top of this, when our food finally arrived finally , the staff started removing several tables next to us, brought up a larger table, and set it up for a large group. The noise they made disturbed us, and made us feel as though we were in a real tourist restaurant.
We actually couldn't wait to get out of there.
All our prior visits the waiters have been top notch, and I'm very upset that our birthday lunch was ruined by a miserably trained staff.
As a side note, we also love their sister restaurant, Felidia have have eaten there occasionally for over 18 years. We go to Becco when we want something a bit more casual and less expensive.
Maybe it was the day, or time, I will admit that we have never been there on a Sunday afternoon before, but I doubt I'll be back.
My wife and I tried Becco for the first time on Saturday, November 18th after seeing the matinee performance of Hamilton. We were not disappointed. The service was spectacular and the decor was really fun. We sat upstairs where all the art was paintings of vegetables, really fun. The food was out of this world. I had the veal shank parm, which was easily the best veal I've had in my life. It was perfect. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the branzino. We also took part in the three special pasta selections and the $29 wine list, rare anywhere, is a tremendous find and value in NYC. The location and proximity to our hotel and to Times Square was perfect, but rest assured, this isn't just a spot for tourists. Three of the tables closest to us were filled with locals. We would highly recommend Becco, great place!
Good for pre-theater because of the location. Unfortunately we had to wait 30 minutes past our reservation to be seated, so had to rush through dinner to get to our play on time. All entrees were delicious. Very crowded! I would go back when not in a rush to see a show and go at 7:30 or 8 when it quiets down a bit.
My date and I had a great meal. The only concern that she had was that it really didn't offer some of Lidia Bastianich's more familiar recipes from her show. We wanted to try the Ricottina for desert, but it was out and we settled for a chocolate mousse cake that was not that great, in all honesty.
Becco is very good at paying attention to theatre-goers need to get out on time.
We went for lunch, and the 3-pasta plus Ceasar Salad option made everything so much easier for our party of 6. Additional helpings of pasta, and beverage refills were offered before anyone needed to flag down a server.
Service was excellent, from coat check to hostess to serving staff.
We sat upstairs which we find preferable. Have sat both upstairs and downstairs. Downstairs is too noisy. Upstairs is nicer. Downstairs bar is always very crowded and tight on space. Maybe it's because everyone arrives all at once for lunch?
All food was delicious.
All around good experience.
We had a delicious dinner. Wine choices great and we enjoyed the Montepulciano de Abruzzo very much at an excellent price. Inclusion of Caesar salad with entree was nice touch and breads, dips, olives great too. I ordered veal picatta which was authentic and delicious with sautéed spinach sides! The lemon caper sauce on veal was perfect but really cried out for a small portion of spaghetti or angel hair pasta! Since everyone around us seemed to be eating the three pasta special it did not seem like it would have been too difficult to provide a small plate of pasta with the veal! We asked for a table in the bar area which was accommodated and really felt it offered up a true NY vibe!
Excellent as usual! Waiter was very solicitous of friend's dietary needs due to a food allergy. He went above and beyond. We loved our table too...and made sure to get the number for future reference.
Try the burrata! It's wonderful! Meatball "appetizer" is delicious and enough for 3 people!
We had an early reservation, so plenty of time for a leisurely dinner before Springsteen!
Spectacular food, extensive wine list, very attentive service. The trio of three pasta dishes, which vary by the day, are to die for. They arrive piping hot to the table, and you can have an unlimited amount of each of the three. Plus, the restaurant, which is beautiful inside, is in close proximity to the theater district. I love Becco!!
