Becco Ratings and Reviews
Lidia would not tolerate what was served, if this meal was placed in front of her.
The Caesar salad was soggy as were the croutons. The Bistecca di Manzo, ordered rear, had and I emphasize "burnt crust" on the outside, that carried through to ruin the flavor of the meat. The manager, that came to the table, stated this is the way we serve our charred Hanger Steak. If this were chopped, you would have eliminated in the first round.
By the way, the steak is shown on the menu as grilled not charred
My husband and I have been going to Becco every year for the past 6 years around Xmas time. This past weekend we had the best experience out of all of our visits as we have seen ups and downs in the quality & staff. The food was wonderful, the staff was extremely attentive, and the overall ambiance was great too. Although it is always a bit cramped, all of our neighboring diners were lovely, enjoyed their dishes, and were nice to chat with. We like to get the sinfonia de pasta, which is an assortment of endless pasta dishes. They all were very different and very tasty. The prices are extremely reasonable as well. We look forward to coming back again next year!
Very overcrowded with really nowhere to wait except to stand and dodge servers or other diners. Food was average, Osso buco more like pot roast in thin gravy. $29 wine bottles had a very good selection from which to choose. Caesar salad was limp and the dressing bland. Was very disappointed.
The atmosphere and experience was deminished by the over booking /how crowded the restaurant was. It is holiday time but hey we’re moving 12 foot tables into place and nocking into our table. People waiting for tables standing over you. Turned me off. We have eaten at Beeco many times very disappointed.
The meal was wonderful, the atmosphere great and overall a not so bad experience. The issue was our waiter was not good. She did not check on us, forget several items, failed to follow up on other items. Too more than 20 minutes from when we sat down to the first time we even saw her. They were very busy the night we were there, but I factored that in! The table near us who also had the same wait person also was having the same issue. So while it did not ruin the evening and the food was wonderful, it made the overall experience frustrating. Give it a try and I hope you have a better wait staff experience!
Outstanding price for very good food near Theatre District. Perfect if you want a quick meal and go to the theatre. Also good if you want a louder, more energetic atmosphere. Negatives are small tables and chairs closely put together where you feel as if you are packed in like a sardine. This may be common in NYC, don't know. So popular, seems like a cattle drive with people moving in and out. Still, great value, very good food.
we opted for the three pasta special. OK but totally ordinary. Can make the same thing at home with jar sauce. Over-rated mistake. The rest of the menu looked great though. Wished we'd ordered from the menu instead of their over-hyped pasta special. Very nice place with ambiance and totally professional service.
We were running a few minutes late because of traffic but graciously seated right away. Service was attentive, but salad server spilled a little on my dinner companion and wine should have been served sooner. Good food, but dinner company's ribeye was tough (I tasted it and agreed) and a bit too charred for his taste...he talked to manager when she stopped by and steak was taken away with no fuss and replaced with a little pasta, which turned out making him happier. We were not charged for the steak and left happy and content. We like going to Becco when we visit NYC at the holidays and would go back! $29 bottle of Italian wine is a terrific value, and everything else we ate (seafood salad, veal parm, pasta, meatballs) was amazing .
Amazing, amazing, amazing! We were so impressed with this dining experience, we made reservations for a second night before we even left the restaurant. Real, authentic Italian food the way nonna would make it. Try the Symphony of Pasta feature... 3 pastas served table-side, all you can eat. The restaurant is always packed, and the pace is a little frenetic, but it just adds to the experience. Highly recommend.
The noise level was intolerable..I could not carry on a conversation. The food was not as good as I had expected..I had the three pasta meal and one was just spaghetti..couldn't it have had something in it other than a red sauce? Like mushrooms or peppers etc. It was terribly bland. The Ceasar salad was soggy..I would not eat there again..I have eaten there before and found the food to be better several years ago..it has gone downhill.
Given the reviews my experience was surprising. Maybe it was an off night. There wont be a follow up for me though to see. The food is just ok and the pasta (for which I guess they are known) was boring and undercooked in one case. The service was inhospitable, inattentive, unhelpful, annoyed, and generally horrible (this goes for the entire staff [server and support]). I think that most restaurants in this area are mediocre tourist traps and Becco does not disappoint on that front. If you want blah food and blah service before a show check em out.
Food was plentiful and tasty. Service was excellent but it is very crowded and noisy. We had the Caesar salad, three pasta plate, swordfish entree and a chicken with pumpkin risotto entree with two glasses of wine and a Bellini. Tab was $107 before tip. We ate here before a show and would return again.
we have eaten at a Becco many times. Food is always very good and value is good, particularly for NYC. Unfortunately, the restaurant was mobbed. While we were seated at a nice table, service for Symphony of Pastas was poor. I think the restaurant was just overbooked. We will go back, but definitely not around holiday time!
