Becco Ratings and Reviews
I love Becco! The menu is amazing! I have had the pasta tastings(a great value) as well as the swordfish(a favorite), chicken parm(massive portions) and my new fav lemon chicken and spinach. You can’t go wrong here!! Wine list is awesome and desserts and appies can easily be shared by two.
I had looked forward to dining here and was so disappointed by the experience. As we were trying to check out coats, someone from the restaurant was yelling out that the outside door needed to be closed. We had a hurried exchange with the hostess checking us in for our reservation. She told us our table was not ready, and asked us to move into the bar to wait. The bar was a very crowded, standing room only where you had to dodge people trying to get past you. Once seated, our waitress seemed totally distracted by progress at the table behind us. I wanted the mushroom ravioli but it was only available with a trio of pastas. And after all of this, we all felt the food was mediocre at best. I will not be returning to Becco, but I don’t think they will miss me. I believe quantity is their goal and not quality.
This was my 3rd time going to Becco and i have to say i was a little disappointed this time out. Drinks were good , waiting was very good and service was excellent. Pasta was cooked al dente which works but this time out the taste was off. veal was very good. Pasta was just off. One was a little salty spaghetti, the bolonese was strange tasting did not taste like bolonese. Could just be it was a Sat night.
My husband’s veal was amazing but my seafood dish was mediocre; the seafood was cooked and seasoned nicely, but the polenta was more like grits made with water & very bland. Very crowded and noisy. Looking around at other tables, the primi dishes looked amazing and will take that route when we visit again. Everyone was very friendly, however, and we would go back again. The menu was refreshing with dishes that you don’t see everywhere, but it still felt traditional.
Everything is always delicious! We always leave full and still have money in our wallets! The muscles appetizer was amazing Ana the meats were the biggest we have ever seen! The three pastas were all fantastic. I had the seafood over polenta and my boyfriend had the veal chop. We left nothing on our plates!! We will always come back to Becco!!
I've dined here before and wanted to celebrate a special occassion -- my sisters' Birthdays. The tables were crammed against each other -- I refused the first table offered us. Salad was very good, entre OK (OK I can get from a diner), two pasta sides were good (tomatoe sauce for spaghetti was watery), dessert very very disappointing (got better at my local diner). Overpriced for what we got. Won't recommend. Has the spirit of Lydia left the room!!!!
Have dined at Becco many times. Always a pleasure. The all you can eat 3-Pasta option is an excellent choice. I enjoyed two of them; the hub enjoyed all 3. The Caesar salad was a little wilted and the croutons much too big. Our server was excellent. The one thing that bothered me was the lady who was going around with the pan of pastas. (I think yesterday she had the Rigatoni Bolognese) Beside looking very bored, when she gave the second helpings of pasta she touched your plate with the fork/spoon utensil. Was she touching everyone's plate?????????????? Hmmm, not a good thought. We would definitely return to Becco, just hope she is not there. And Becco should look into this practice.
I ate at Becco back in December and enjoyed it very much. My last visit not so much. Went there after a show and asked to be seated earlier than our reservation and they did accommodate us. However the table they sat us at happened be be in a section where the floor was not level. Two of us had chairs that were rocking all over the place. At first I thought it was the chair and asked it to be changed but the next one did the same thing . My friend’s chair was doing the same thing as well. You may want to either level the floor in that section or don’t seat people there cause it’s not fun bouncing all over during your whole meal. Two of my friends got the pasta special one has a bad allergy to shrimp but they said it was no problem to do the dish without shrimp. My friend that had the pasta with the shrimp for dinner her dinner came prompltly as did my chicken Parm. My other friend who had no shrimp just sat there with no dinner. I brought it to the attention of our server and she said it would be right out. Not! We waited and waited finally he came around with the ravioli portion of the pasta special with three left in the pan he gave two to the friend that had the shrimp dish and one to the other person who had the pasta with no shrimp which at that point were a quarter way through the dinner and my friend had one ravioli . The inexperienced waitress poured water in the wine glass that still had wine in it. It was just real bad. Sorry I won’t be back for awhile if ever. Oh and you may want to rethink those bathrooms. Not fun when your sitting on the throne and the hand dryer keeps going off. Maybe if you would open the place up a bit instead of packing people in like sardines it would be a nicer experience for all. Sorry but it was bad!
The previous reviews were spot on. Just so so, OK for the theater district but if your a fan of Lidia's it will be less than what you expect. Excessively crowded as in over booked. Our wait staff was changed mid-stream which meant our appitizer was forgotten about. The hostess was apologetic and corrected this witha complimentary replacement. The pasta trio was bland and they never offered my hsband seconds. My Chicken parm was ok but came with only the soggy ceasar salad. The coffee was good!
We were celebrating our anniversary and asked for a table away from the kitchen. They must have thought we meant “in the kitchen” since we were seated right outside the doorway—the closest table to the kitchen! The foot traffic from wait staff breezing by and the clanking of dishes and staff running up and down the kitchen stairs made it hard to even have conversation, which is why we asked to be seated away from the kitchen to begin with. Food was good but felt the pasta trio was not very interesting—gnocchi had a bizarre texture and spaghetti with marinara and basil was nothing special. Calamari was good. Wait staff is rushed because of the constant running around re-filling the pasta trio plates. Our waiter was very anxious to be done with us and seemed annoyed when we asked what the specials were. He asked if we were ready to order before even telling us about them, obviously hoping to save himself the speech.
I’ve been wanting to go to Becco for a while now and I should’ve just left it in my “list” and not ruin the restaurant and food that was in my head based on Joe Bastianich’s reputation and that of his family! My husband and I were saying that if Joe was there, even he wouldn’t eat the food and he’d spit it out like he does on TV!!
The Cesar Salad was tasteless and the lettuce was soggy and watery. The pasta trio was over cooked and not drained well, again, watery and not seasoned. Very underwhelming. I’d rather go to Carmine’s or Tony Napoli or....wait for it....OLIVE GARDEN!
Do NOT waste your time and money for this resto unless you like bland and tasteless food. You’re in NYC, and there’s thousands of other places to wow you and this was just so underwhelming it was sad. I don’t know why the resto was full besides the fact that for 24.95 to get an appetizer and a pasta plate in a resto and not a pizzeria in the Theater District is near impossible unless you want a burger and fries.
I’ve been to the dollar pizza dives in NYC and eaten street meat and loved it and have been to every Steakhouse in the city and every Michelin Star resto in the city and other places in the city such as Felicia or Del Posto all the way to Le Bernardin and this place was soooo not worth an everyday meal. I have a very good palette. Low end to high end. This. Was. A. Waste.
The service was diner quality and that didn’t help either plus there was very ambiance. What a disappointment that I chose this place since I only get a night out alone with the hubby like once every 6 months or so. We go out for dinner about once every 1-2 months now with friends or colleagues but just me and him...so rare. What a waste of a perfectly good evening.
Very disappointing, the calamari was chewy, the crispy shrimp, pasty and the salad as limp as it could be. The entrees were fine but nothing to rave about. They took the apps off the check, we didn’t ask them to but we couldn’t eat them. The staff was nice but No reason to return.
Food was pretty good. Enjoyed the $31 wine list. There are several selections for that. Server left halfway through our dinner and the one who remained did not fully engage or give the best service at that point. It was also very hot in there as the temperature outside had warmed up and maybe the inside still had the heater on. Overall I would return to this restaurant. Seating is better for couples or small groups.
A LOVELY evening with good food and good service by a friendly waiter. Staff very accomadating from surprising us with a dessert complete with a candle for my friends birthday..... to turning down the cold air which was blowing from overhead. I have been at Becos a few times and have always enjoyed it. Highly recommended.
Overall ambiance and food was good!
Had a reservation for february 12 6:30 pm for my wife’s birthday. We went for the pasta trio which I expected to be better but order some other food and it was good. Service unfortunately was not OK! This only coming from the waiter attending us that nigt. He was not very willing to provide detail about menu and after making an observation about a soup which was quite bland he did not take it well and went back to his supervisor saying that we were rude an unfortunate comment that I had to hear on myway to the restroom. After hearing that I just wanted to immediately walk out from there. I would not go back and honestly not sure if I would recommend it. We just had a really bad experience with the waiter.
Pasta is always on point! Tables are crazy close together - please be respectful with coats and bags! But the closeness is a plus for date nite. Food presentation is nothing but spectacular, even the past tasting menu offers delights for the eyes. They pile it up, you will not leave hungry if you choose this budget-friendly option!
